Marinette had spent the last twenty minutes looking for Adrien, but somehow he'd disappeared. Her party was going well, but it felt wrong that the guy she'd grown so close to throughout the year wasn't here.
She wondered if Luka had scared him off? Perhaps his father wanted him back at home? All those questions could have simply been answered through a phone call. Only Adrien wouldn't answer his phone. Marinette had tried countless times and switched off cellphones weren't usually Adrien's thing.
The awe of Luka's affectionate display had long been forgotten by her mind. Instead concern for Adrien grew more and more. Had he only wanted to wish her happy birthday? His body language seemed to say more.

Maybe he finally feels the same -

"Stop it Marinette," she scolded herself out loud. The very thought of Adrien liking her beyond just a friend still made her heart leap even though she'd sworn him off. She had waited and waited for the boy to give her a sign, but it never happened. Then Luka came along and well the rest is history.
Was it really that easy though? Was history always clear cut?
She'd never told Luka about her love for the Agreste boy and she hoped he never found out. It wasn't easy falling out of love, it was even harder trying to fall into it with Luka, but Marinette was sure she could handle. She was doing well so far.

"Marinette Dupain- Cheng!" a shrill voice called out. Marinette spun on her heels immediately.
The speaker was a pale woman dressed in a dark cloak. Red streaks ran through her hair which was short and unkept. She was staring straight at her.

"I am Madam Koi. Just as you have hurt someone I am here to return the favor,"

Marinette was confused and scared. Trying to figure out who she had hurt with no success. Maybe she did so unintentionally. It didn't matter though. There was no way she could transform while everyone was around. If only she could distract Madam Koi...

"I haven't hurt anyone," Marinette called out, "not intentionally anyways. I'm sorry,"

Madam Koi facial features seemed to morph with disgust.

"Adrien Agreste isn't just anyone! Perhaps if you paid attention to those who cared about you we wouldn't be in this situation,"

Marinette's eyes grew to saucers. Adrien? Could this villian be Natalie?
She needed to find Adrien now more than ever.

"Nevermind. I'm about to end you. This might only hurt for a minute," a wide smile crept across Madam Koi's face.

"Not if I can help it," came a very familiar voice.
Cat Noir was perched lightly on the fence with a crooked grin.

"Why do you have to be such a party pooper? And threatening the birthday girl? Now where is the fun in that?" Cat asked with a wag of the finger.

"Happy birthday Marinette. Let me help you take out the trash,"

Marinette smiled at him and then dashed behind the stage.

"Tiki, spots on,"

Finding Adrien would have to wait a little while longer.
