IDEK

As I walked down the small tube, crouching with my knees at my neck, I saw something scary. I jumped as well as i could for someone crouching, and hit my head on the metal above me. How I got into this position I don't know.

Since I couldn't see the end of the tiny tunnel, and I couldn't see it changing direction any time soon, I decided to get some sleep. I lay down and as soon as I shut my eyes, unconsciousness swallowed me.

I woke to the sounds of birds flying and leaves rustling. The sweet aroma of flowers surrounded me along with the nice country smell of cow pat. It was a beautiful day and the sun shone brightly through the branches of the tall, green leafed trees. A small pond sat only a few feet away from where I woke, lying on my back. The lush grass tickled my fingers and toes.

I gazed up at the canopy rising above me and everything felt great with the world. Until I thought about the tunnel. How small it had been, how much it had stank, and most importantly; how real it had felt. I thought about it for a while. Had it been reality? Had it been a dream? I'd woken up in the meadow-clearing in a forest and it felt as if it was true. The forest clearing felt special, important, far from a dream. Yet when I thought of how real the other had felt, I questioned it.

I suddenly felt very tired again, even though I hadn't done anymore than lie there thinking. I shut my eyes and once again got swept away by the dark current.

Waking up felt like torture. The horrid stench hit me first. I recognised it at once; I was back in the tunnel.

What was real anymore? Would I ever know?
