ORI

FULL NAME - Ybarra D. Oren
NAME MEANING -
YBARRA - Spanish variant of Ibarra, from Basque ibar meaning "meadow."
D. - Unknown
OREN - Means "pine tree," in Hebrew.
NICKNAME(S) - Or, Ori, Ren
EPITHET(S) - "Battle Armor" Oren
PREFERRED NAME - Ori
AGE - 18
SEXUALITY - Bisexual
GENDER & PRONOUNS - Nonbinary, They/Them
ROLE - Captain of the Knight Pirates, logbook keeper

FACECLAIM - Ruby Cruz
APPEARANCE -
As a child, Ori was a small, scrawny thing with wide, solemn eyes and shaggy, unruly hair. They were all legs and knobby knees, and their arms were just as bony with long fingers that always seemed to be reaching for something. Their clothes were always just a little too big, but they never seemed to care, running around in shirts hanging off one shoulder and pinned-up pants without a care in the world. Like most children, Ori's ruddy cheeks were round with baby fat, squeezing their eyes shut whenever they smiled.
Once they were older, Ori grew into their gangly limbs, capping out at just over five feet tall. Though still shaggy and a little unruly, their hair became more styled and wavy. Most of their baby fat was lost, and their cheeks settled into a more subtle, rosy blush than the blotchy ruddiness from their childhood. One of the few features they retained from a younger age was their eyes; their blue eyes remained wide and inquisitive, just enough to be unnerving. Their time as a smuggler gave them several new scars as well, the most notable on their chest, starting just under their right collarbone and ending just above their heart.
ATTIRE -
Ori gravitates toward comfortable yet functional clothes, often wearing tunics tucked into loose-fitting trousers and occasionally a cloak if the weather calls for it. Most of their clothes are darker colors, preferring blues, greens, and browns. They wear little, if any, jewelry or accessories, and they aren't one for makeup unless the situation specifically calls for it. The only exception is the green pendent that expands into their armor. The armor, when worn, is a mix of steel plates and chainmail that covers their whole body, with a metal band around the neck connected to the front of the armor, similar to a torc (a metal circlet worn around the neck).

PERSONALITY -
Being incredibly observant and detail-oriented, Ori always needs to know what is happening around them. They're always watching, always taking in new information, always learning. Used to hectic situations and unexpected changes, they think quickly on their feet and adapt easily to new circumstances. They view the world with curiosity and an eagerness to learn, always finding excitement in small things, though they would prefer to remain quiet, watching from the sidelines. Flexible, Ori takes things in stride, often tending to plan as they go instead of thinking far ahead and try their best to be openminded.
Ori's background as a smuggler and being raised by Fitz taught them to keep their emotions in check. Most of the time, they keep their face neutral and impassive, but that isn't always the case in reality. Ori has a keen insight and can pick up on unspoken thoughts and feelings of those around them. Criticism can be difficult to handle, especially if it seems harsh or unjustified, and they often react strongly in the heat of the moment, though they would immediately regret it. However, they try their best not to dwell on things; with their adaptable nature, they prefer to focus on the present rather than the past—always looking for the next thing to do.
They're openminded and nonjudgmental, and they have a deep sense of loyalty to those they care about. Though they can be pretty selfish (they are a pirate and a former smuggler, after all), they try to put those they care about first, even if it's to their own detriment. Despite that and their general distaste for the spotlight, Ori makes for a good leader, keeping an eye on everyone in the crew and taking everything and everyone into account before making decisions.
LIKES - Writing, books, fights, swords, their crew, libraries, horchata, clear skies, animals
DISLIKES - Marines, thunderstorms, the ocean, Celestial Dragons, alcohol, being touched by strangers
STRENGTHS - Observant, quick-thinking, adaptable, lying/acting, passionate, creative
WEAKNESSES - Indecisive, easily bored, self-sacrificing, reserved, self-loathing, easily bored
HOBBIES - Reading, writing, sparring, book binding, cleaning their armor/swords

BACKSTORY -
Born on a small island in the corner of the East Blue, Ori grew up with their mother, father, and (occasionally) their uncle. Orfeo, Ori's father wasn't a big fan of Fitz for reasons unknown to them at the time, so visits were few and far between. Ori often followed their parents to their respective jobs—Orfeo worked as a librarian while Calanthe taught swordfighting at a local Marine base as an outreach program. Though Ori enjoyed spending time with both parents, they greatly enjoyed the days they got to follow Orfeo to the library, spending hours pouring over the well-worn books.
As they grew older, they began to enjoy writing, whether it was creating their own stories or writing what they saw, much to Orfeo's delight. When they were ten, their parents went out on a boat to go to a nearby island for a trip, and Ori was left in the care of Fitz. The night Orfeo and Calanthe were meant to return, a storm ravaged the island, and their ship sank before they could make it. There were no survivors. Ori, now an orphan, was left in their Uncle's care, and they learned very quickly why her parents didn't talk about his job. Fitz was a smuggler, stealing goods (mostly from Marines and Celestial Dragons) and redistributing them on other islands. Having no real clue how to raise such a small child (and not really having anything to do with them otherwise), Fitz eventually decided to take Ori with him, teaching them how to fool Marines and Celestial Dragons and subsequently rob them. He also continued Calanthe's sword training, gifting them their mother's prized longswords. Soon, Ori was helping Fitz smuggle, gaining a bounty of their own at thirteen, and this was when they got their signature armor. They robbed a Celestial Dragon who had the armor commissioned purely for looks that could collapse into a pendant worn around the neck. With Fitz's approval, Ori kept the armor for themself, wearing it when fighting. Due to the armor making them more easily recognizable, it eventually led to them getting their first bounty poster.
Eventually, Ori decided to go out on their own, hoping to fulfill their dream of telling the greatest story ever, much to Fitz's chagrin. The two said a distant goodbye, hoping to ignore how much they knew they would miss the other. Ori stole a ship from a marine base, repurposed it for her own use, and set sail.

FAMILY -
Ybarra Orfeo: Ori's father, a man with kind eyes who had just reached his mid thirties when he passed, instilled in his child a love of reading and writing. From a young age, Ori followed their father like a shadow, and Orfeo took joy in knowing that he could teach his child something worthwhile. The two were especially close, and Ori strove to be like him, even after his passing. (Played by Diego Boneta)
Ybarra D. Calanthe (nee Riddell): Ori's mother, and while they weren't as close with her as they were their father, Ori loved their mother all the same. She had unruly dark hair and was in her early thirties when she passed. Where their father was soft and preferred the company of a good book, Calanthe was a little more wild and loved a brawl. She was a troublemaker as a child and barely grew out of it by the time she reached adulthood. Calanthe filled Ori's head with stories of adventure and pirates. (Played by Eve Hewson)
Riddell D. Fitzroy "Fitz": Ori's uncle, who became their guardian after their parents passed. Fitz was never the kind of man who considered himself fit for parenthood, and Ori didn't change that. His work as a smuggler didn't help; he had little time or suitable resources for a child. He really only kept them alive because he could still kind of remember how he took care of Calanthe when they were children. However, that wasn't to say that he didn't care for them. Fitz could see so much of his sister in Ori (mostly because he readily ignored anything from Orfeo), and he could see the potential they had. He taught them most of what Ori knows about survival. Their relationship consisted of more tough love and actions than words, but they do love each other in their own way. Allegedly. (Played by Michael Sheen)
LOVE INTEREST - Open
RELATIONSHIP WITH LI - Their relationship starts out as a begrudging friendship at best, at least on Ori's part. Eventually, it progresses into more of a queer-platonic relationship before becoming romantic. Very much a slow burn because they're both oblivious and a little stupid when it comes to romance, but Ori is the type of person to show their care for someone via actions rather than words.

STATS -
STRENGTH - 9/10
DEXTERITY - 10/10
CONSTITUTION - 6/10
INTELLIGENCE- 8/10
WISDOM - 4/10
CHARISMA - 4/10
POWERS - Ori ate the Ink-Ink Fruit, a paramecia-type Devil Fruit that gave them the ability to create and manipulate ink however they chose. For the most part, it has little use in a fight (though it can be used to blind or choke opponents), but Ori mostly uses it to keep their logbook. With a swipe of their hand, words and sketches bleed onto the blank pages immediately.
WEAPON(S) OF CHOICE - They wield two longswords named Castor and Pollux.

WHY DID/DO THEY BECOME A PIRATE? - To honor their parents, they want to tell the greatest story ever. They were already an outlaw because of Fitz, so becoming a pirate didn't seem like too big of a leap.
THEME SONGS - Abandon Ship by fin, The Moon Will Sing by The Crane Wives, I, Carrion (Icarian) by Hozier, This Is Our Life by Des Rocs, Sinners by Barnes Courtney
AESTHETIC - Scattered pages, ink-stained hands, swords, loose clothes, worn journals, soft brown hair, the moon reflecting the sun's light, blood-covered swords, knight's armor, worn journals, sinking below the waves
QUOTES -
+ "I said, pick up that sword, and fight me."
+ "Quit looking at me! It wasn't like I told him to do it!"
+ "Wait, say that again, would you? I've gotta write it down! Can I quote you on that?"
+ "If this book is ruined because of you, I'll stab you."
+ "Think carefully about how you speak to me. I may not be as forgiving."
EXTRA -
+ I love Fitz's character so much—I might try to find a way to include him in the main story lmao. He's like if Robin Hood were an asshole and he's so <3
+ They always wanted a dog but both Calanthe and Fitz were allergic (now that they're on their own, they're strongly considering getting one).
+ Sometimes, they'll use their Devil Fruit abilities to obscure their wanted poster before anyone can notice who they are.
+ They taught themselves how to bind books not long after they ate the Ink-Ink Fruit.
+ Ori genuinely had no plan when they set sail; they were truly flying by the seat of their pants.

FITZ

FULL NAME - Riddell D. Fitzroy
NAME MEANING -
RIDDELL - Possibly of Germanic origin, derived from the root meaning "ride."
D. - Unknown
FITZROY - Means "son of the king" in Old French.
NICKNAME(S) - Fitz [REDACTED]
EPITHET(S) - "Three Piece" Fitzroy
PREFERRED NAME - Fitz
AGE - 54
SEXUALITY - Homosexual
GENDER & PRONOUNS - Male, He/Him
ROLE - Smuggler, leader of the Invisible Syndicate

FACECLAIM - Michael Sheen
APPEARANCE -
Fitz is an older man, with curly salt and pepper hair and beard. He's pale with stare-into-your soul blue eyes with deep eye bags below them. While he was a small, scrawny child—nearly malnourished—he grew out of it over time, until there was nothing left of that child other than a slightly haunted gaze.
ATTIRE -
Like his epithet would imply, Fitz primarily wears three-piece suits, complete with a silver pocket watch and chain. His suits are typically impeccably clean and a variety of colors; rumor has it he's never been seen wearing the same suit twice. When doing his 'dirty work,' so to speak, he may remove his suit coat and roll up the sleeves of his dress shirt. He also may occasionally wear armor hidden under his clothes for protection.

PERSONALITY -
Fitz is a posh asshole. His personality is born out of growing up forced to fight and steal for his and his sister's survival. He's smart, quick, and shrewd, and he knows it. Better yet, he revels in it. He only really cares about him and his; everyone else can fend for themselves. That being said, he loves proving a point and sticking it to the oppressive forces in charge, and that wins over his selfishness occasionally. Everyone loves to see someone get what they have coming, and Fitz is no exception.
He is incredibly detail-oriented—a measure twice, cut once kind of guy. A quick thinker, he's known for thinking on his feet and his improvisational skills; if something unexpected happens, Fitz will have at least three different plans within a minute. Emotionally, he's a horrible leader, but he's a great actor who knows what people want, especially those who work for and with him (Have some of his employees grown on him? What are you, a narc?). He's a master manipulator with a small circle of those he really cares for, maybe three people in the syndicate and Ori. However, he has a very roundabout way of showing his affection; that is, he's horrible at it. Thankfully, those he cares about have spent so much time around him since he's so slow to trust that they can read between the lines.
LIKES - Working, books, tea, chess, go (the game), strategy games in general, shenanigans
DISLIKES - The Navy, Celestial Dragons, making a mess, the West Blue, alcohol (he drinks it for show)
STRENGTHS - Observant, intelligent, quick-witted, practical, good liar, great tactician
WEAKNESSES - Pretty selfish at heart, naturally skeptical, stubborn, quick to abandon things when he gets bored
HOBBIES - Playing strategy games, reading, people watching, Causing Problems, planning

BACKSTORY -
Fitz was born to a small, impoverished family in the West Blue to parents who probably shouldn't have had kids. They weren't the worst parents, but they were more like peers than any sort of parental figures. Fitz was more or less on his own from the moment he was deemed old enough to fend for himself, and then he had to care for Calanthe after she was born. He quickly learned to steal and swindle his way into getting food and drink for the two of them until he was eighteen and Calanthe was eleven, when they stowed away on a smuggler's ship making its way to the East Blue. They were found out almost immediately, but the captain of the ship allowed them to stay because he liked their guts. The two worked as cabin boys/girls (cabin kids?) until reaching the East Blue, where the two bid farewell to the crew, or, at least, Calanthe did. Fitz was approached by the captain of the ship and leader of the smuggling ring about a real job, and Fitz, still needing a way to provide for him and Calanthe, agreed instantly. For years, he worked quietly as a smuggler, caring for Calanthe, and eventually Orfeo and Ori. He remained permanently in the East Blue until Calanthe and Orfeo got married; after that, he began traveling for work and quickly climbing the ranks. Life was busy, a little stressful, but ultimately good.
Unfortunately, Calanthe and Orfeo died in a shipwreck, and Fitz soon found himself the sole carer of one ten-year-old. Sure, he cared for Ori deeply before the accident, but it had been a long time since he'd ever had to look after a child, and with his more active and criminal lifestyle, it would be much more dangerous than his and Calanthe's life in the West Blue. Nevertheless, Fitz took Ori in and, having little other choice (because like hell he was going to trust some rando to raise them), decided to take them with him on his smuggling missions.

FAMILY -
Riddell D. Thane: Fitz and Calanthe's father. He often left his children at home alone to either get drunk or go on trips with Iona. He seemingly didn't search for Fitz or Calanthe when they ran away.
Riddell Iona: Fitz and Calanthe's mother. She didn't leave them alone as often as Thane would, but the two would take trips without the kids very often and often leave them to fend for themselves. She seemingly didn't search for Fitz or Calanthe when they ran away.
Ybarra D. Calanthe (née Riddell): Fitz's younger sister by seven years. The two were extremely close while she was alive, and he even followed her when she got married and relocated to the East Blue to settle down even though he didn't particularly like Orfeo.
Ybarra D. Orfeo: Fitz's brother-in-law. These two didn't like each other, but they had a mutual understanding born out of their love for Calanthe and Ori. They kept their interactions to a minimum.
Ybarra D. Oren "Ori": Fitz's nibling (Look, I can't stand that word either, but IDK a good alternative). Even though he isn't Orfeo's biggest fan, he loves Ori and thinks they're a great kid. He was adamant about taking Ori in after Calanthe and Orfeo passed, and while he wasn't originally keen on letting them in on the 'family' business, he wanted to foster their skills and let them have a good understanding of the real world

LOVE INTEREST - Open? Fitz won't have many appearances but I won't say no immediately.
RELATIONSHIP WITH LI - Look, Ori had to get their trust issues somewhere, and you can look no further than Fitz. He isn't the type to verbally express his love for people and prefers to do so through actions..

STATS -
STRENGTH - 6/10
DEXTERITY - 10/10
CONSTITUTION - 7/10
INTELLIGENCE- 9/10
WISDOM - 8/10
CHARISMA - 9/10
POWERS - [REDACTED]
WEAPON(S) OF CHOICE - Fitz isn't one to get his hands dirty overly often, but he owns a flintlock pistol and multiple pairs of knuckle dusters.

WHY DID/DO THEY BECOME A PIRATE? - Fitz is a smuggler, having turned to organized crime due to his disillusionment with the social and economic hierarchy of the world
THEME SONGS - Weight of the World by Shayfer James
AESTHETIC - Pocket watches, well-tailored suits, organized crime, flintlocks, chess, playing cards, salt and pepper hair, money, alcohol, fresh tea
QUOTES -
+ "I taught you better than this, brat. Now get up."
+ "Hm, sounds like it's not my problem. Ta-ta!"
+ "Oh, dear. It appears I'll have to get my hands dirty after all."
+ "Don't act all pathetic now. Things were just getting interesting."
+ "You have no idea who I am."
EXTRA -
+ He's a gossipy bitch. You can't tell a secret in his general vicinity without him hearing about it.
+ Possibly my meanest main(ish) character I've ever written. I love him <3
+ He's very proud of Ori. If someone brings them up, he'll start yapping about them like a grandparent. He will bust out pictures (read: Ori's wanted posters over the years).
+ Fitz sent the navy a picture to use for his wanted poster (he hated all of the previous ones).
+ His posh accent is something he did on purpose. He didn't talk like that growing up but cultivated it once he started working for the Invisible Syndicate.

My favorite thing about One Piece is giving characters the most random names possible <3
