65. Twenty Five Year Anniversary
A/n: Okay so I looked it up and their twenty fifth anniversary would fall on a Tuesday, because it would be May 25, 2049, but let's just pretend that it's during the weekend. Anyways, please enjoy this imagine. Without further ado, let's begin!
I woke up in the morning and stretched my arms while my eyes remained closed.
"Hey, careful with those arms Mrs. Mendes, you might hit your husband." Shawn Mendes, my husband of now twenty five years said as I opened my eyes. I smiled at him and he gently pulled me closer to him as he smiled at me.
"Sorry baby." I said as I put my hand on his cheek.
"It's okay darling. Happy twenty fifth anniversary." He said. My smile widened.
"Happy twenty fifth anniversary. Can you believe it babe? Twenty five years. That's a quarter of a century." I said. Shawn nodded.
"I know. Feels like just yesterday I watched you walk down the aisle in that beautiful dress as I cried." He said.
"Yeah. I remember thinking that our first kiss as husband and wife somehow felt more magical than all of the kisses before that." I said. Shawn nodded.
"Yup. Speaking of kisses, I haven't gotten one yet this morning." Shawn said with a smirk.
"How about I give you one?" I asked.
"Hmmm, how about twenty five, one for each year that we've been married." Shawn said. I nodded and he kissed me quickly twenty four times, but for the twenty fifth kiss, it was longer than the others. I felt my heart race as if I had just run a marathon, I felt butterflies erupt and fly around in my tummy, and I felt sparks shoot through my body like fireworks. Shawn held me close to him as we kissed. It wasn't a lustful kiss, but I could tell that he was putting all of his love into the kiss. We eventually pulled away so we could catch our breaths.
"I love you." I said.
"I love you too. Hey, you know what I just realized?" Shawn asked.
"What did my sweet and amazing - and let's not forget handsome - husband realize?" I asked. Shawn chuckled.
"Where did your wedding dress go?" He asked. I got out of bed - and Shawn's strong arms - and went to our closet. I looked at him.
"Come here baby." I said. He smiled and came over to me. We went to the back of our closet, and there it was.
"It's been here the whole time?" He asked as he wrapped his arms around me from behind. I giggled and nodded.
"Yup." I said as I rested my back against his chest.
"How did I not notice it?" He asked before placing kisses on the side of my head and then on my ear. I smiled.
"I don't know. Out of all of the dresses that you've ever seen me in - and you've seen me in a lot of dresses - which one is your favorite?" I asked as I turned around in his arms. His arms stayed around my waist and my arms wrapped around his shoulders.
"Your wedding dress." He said. I smiled.
"I don't know why I've never thought to ask this, but why did you cry when I walked down the aisle?" I asked. Shawn kissed my forehead, the spot that he kissed was left feeling tingly even after his lips were no longer there, and he rested his forehead against mine as he began to sway us from side to side slowly.
"Because you looked so damn beautiful. Breathtaking, actually. And as you were smiling at me and walking towards me, it felt like it was just the two of us in the room, no one else. And I remember thinking 'I'm about to marry the most beautiful girl in the world who also happens to be my best friend.' and it was just so amazing." Shawn said. I kissed him again.
"I love you." I said.
"I love you too." He said.
"I'm hungry." I said. He chuckled.
"Funfetti pancakes?" Shawn asked. My eyes widened.
"Yes!" I said. Shawn chuckled and pulled away from the hug but held out his hand for me to take. I interlaced my fingers with his. As our skin touched, I felt electricity spark through me, yet I felt safe and warm at the same time. Shawn likes to make regular pancakes or waffles on regular days, but if it's a birthday or an anniversary, he makes funfetti pancakes. Shawn and I went downstairs and into the kitchen.
"I think that the kids are still sleeping." Shawn said. I nodded.
"What time is it?" I asked. Shawn looked at his phone.
"Nine in the morning. So, the kids probably won't be awake for another hour or two. What should we do in the meantime, my love?" Shawn asked. I thought for a moment.
"Before you make pancakes, can we dance to our first dance song please?" I asked. Shawn smiled and nodded.
"Of course we can darling." He said.
"Yay!" I said, causing Shawn to chuckle. He put on Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran and then looked at him.
"Mrs. Mendes, may I have this dance?" He asked. I smiled and nodded.
"Of course you can Mr. Mendes." I said. He smiled and put one hand on my hip, his other hand holding mine. My hand, the one that wasn't holding his, was on his shoulder. We slow danced around the kitchen, our eyes locked.
"I love you so much honey." Shawn said.
"I love you so much too baby. We've come so far." I said. He nodded.
"We have, haven't we?" He asked. I nodded.
"Yup. We went from two strangers that met at a random Dunkin Donuts in Boston to husband and wife of twenty five years with three kids." I said. Shawn let go of my hand and wrapped his arms around my waist. I wrapped my arms around his shoulders and he rested his forehead against mine again as he swayed us.
"Thank you." He said.
"For what?" I asked.
"For saying yes when I asked you on that first date. For saying yes when I asked you to be my girlfriend. For saying yes when I asked you to be my wife. For making me a father. Thank you for everything." Shawn said. I smiled.
"You're welcome. Thank you for asking me on that first date and to be your girlfriend and then your wife. Thank you for helping to make me a mother. Thank you for everything." I said.
"You're welcome. I had a lot of fun helping to make you a mother by the way." Shawn said with a wink.
"Ew. I'm going to puke." We heard someone say. Shawn and I looked.
"Julia Kennedy Mendes, how long have you been standing there?" I asked.
"Long enough to hear dad say that he had fun helping to make you a mother. I want to barf now." She said.
"You ruined our cover!" Jake yelled. Shawn and I laughed.
"Why don't you guys come on downstairs and I'll make pancakes?" Shawn yelled so Jake, who I'm pretty sure was standing either at the top of the stairs or on the stairs, could hear him.
"Okay." Rose yelled. Shawn gave me another kiss.
"I'm the luckiest man alive." Shawn said.
"I'm the luckiest woman alive." I said as the kids walked into the room.
"Happy anniversary!" Rose said. Shawn gave her a hug.
"Thank you sweet pea." He said.
"Happy anniversary." Jake and Julia said.
"Thank you guys." Shawn and I said as we gave our kids hugs.
"Can we go sit on the couch while you make breakfast Daddy?" Julia asked. Shawn nodded.
"Yeah." He said.
"Mom, what do you want to watch?" Jake asked. I looked at him and then at Shawn and then back at Jake.
"How about you guys watch something just the three of you? I want to spend some time with your father." I asked and said. They nodded.
"Okay." Jake said, and the kids went to watch tv. I walked over to where Shawn was.
"You didn't have to do that babe." Shawn said. I stood next to him and rubbed his back.
"My love, it's our twenty five year anniversary. Of course I'm going to want to spend time with my husband." I said. Shawn smiled.
"I really hope that you like your present." Shawn said. I kissed his bicep.
"I always love your gifts. I'm going to love whatever you got me. I hope that you like what I got you." I said.
"Well I always love your gifts too baby." He said. I nodded and rubbed his back as I looked at his handsome face. I felt so grateful. Shawn's always there for me no matter what. He's my best friend, my soulmate, my everything.
"I never want to be without you." I said. Shawn looked at me for a moment and then back at the pancakes.
"You'll never be without me. I know that there are going to be times where we're physically away from each other, but I'm always in your heart honey. We're going to be together forever darling." Shawn said. I smiled.
"Thank you for always reassuring me about... well, anything. Whenever I'm feeling insecure, you help me. Whenever I'm sad or depressed, you're there for me. You're always there for me and I'm so grateful for that. I'm grateful for you." I said as Shawn finished making the pancakes and put them on plates. He turned to me and held my face in his hands.
"I'm always going to be here for you, and I know that you're always going to be here for me too." Shawn said.
"Always and forever." I said.
"How about we go to that restaurant by the lake tonight? The kids could go to your mom's house for the weekend." Shawn asked and said with a smirk.
"Okay. After dinner I'll call my mom and ask her." I said.
"I already did, and I already have reservations for the restaurant. The reservation is at six." Shawn said with a smile as he picked up some of the plates.
"You never cease to amaze me Shawn Mendes." I said as I brought some of the plates of pancakes to the table. He laughed.
"Well you never cease to amaze me either. Kids, breakfast is ready!" Shawn said to them. They turned off the television and sat at the table.
"Funfetti pancakes! Yes!" Jake said and we laughed.
"You guys are going to spend the weekend at Meimei's." I said.
"Ewww." Julia said.
"Jules, your dad and I just want to spend some time together. It's our anniversary. You'll understand when you're older." I said.
"Oh, and I bought you a dress, so wear that to dinner babe." Shawn said. I smiled at him.
"You're too good to me Shawn Mendes." I said.
"Other way around. You're the one that's too good to me Y/n Mendes." Shawn said.
"I still can't believe that it's been twenty five years." I said with a smile.
"So, be honest, how have you liked being Mrs. Y/n Mendes for the past twenty five years?" Shawn asked with a smirk. I put my hand to his cheek and he leaned into my touch, wanting more, just like I do when he does this to me.
"I've absolutely loved it. These past twenty five years of marriage and almost twenty nine years of being together have been nothing short of magical. You make everything so much better and I love you for that." I said. Shawn put his hand over mine and kissed the palm of it.
"I feel the same way about you darling." Shawn said. After breakfast, Shawn and I got the presents that we had gotten for each other and then sat down with the kids.
"Ready?" I asked. He nodded.
"Yup." He said and then opened up the gift. His eyes widened and he smiled.
"What does it say Dad?" Julia asked as Shawn held the frame in his hand. He smiled as he read it.
"25 Years. 300 months of Togetherness. 1,304 weeks of Happiness. 9,132 days of Friendship. 219,168 hours of Laughter. 13,150,080 minutes of Love. 789,004,800 second of Wonderful Memories. Shawn & Y/n. May 25, 2024." He read. He then smiled at me.
"Do you like it?" I asked. He stood up and gave me a hug.
"I love it. Thank you so much honey. Where should we put it?" He asked as he pulled away from the hug and looked at the frame.
"Wherever you want babe." I said. He looked at the wall that has a picture from our first dance on it. He walked over and held the frame underneath the photo.
"How does it look here? Should we put it here?" He asked. I nodded.
"Yeah. I think that it would look wonderful there." I said. Shawn instantly got a thumb tack and hung it up. He then looked at me.
"How does it look?" He asked.
"I love it there." I said.
"I do too. Ready for your present?" He asked. I nodded and sat down.
"Yeah." I said. He handed it to me.
"Be careful with it darling." He said. I nodded and opened it. My eyes widened and I felt tears form. What did I do to deserve this man? I looked at the kids.
"We can never use this plate. It needs to be put in a special place and kept absolutely pristine." I said as I looked at the glass plate.
"Okay. What does it say?" Rose asked.
"25th Wedding Anniversary - A 25th Anniversary is a celebration of life and love, of dreams come true, hopes for the future, and most of all the special closeness two people share. Y/n and Shawn Mendes. May 25, 2024." I read as some happy tears fell onto my cheeks.
"My love, why are you crying?" Shawn asked. I looked at him.
"I'm just really happy. I don't know what I did to deserve such an amazing husband." I said. Shawn smiled at me.
"I don't know what I did to deserve such an amazing wife. Oh, it comes with a little stand by the way." Shawn said as he pulled something else out of the box. He set it down and I put the plate on it. Sure enough, it held the plate.
"I love it. Thank you so much Shawn." I said.
"You're welcome darling." Shawn said. The kids soon headed to my mom's house so Shawn and I could have some alone time before our date. "My love?"
"Hmm?" I asked as I leaned on Shawn.
"Do you mind if I post something on Instagram?" He asked.
"That's fine baby. I'll probably post something too." I said and he nodded. I moved so my feet were in his lap. I scrolled through my phone, trying to find a photo from our wedding that I had never posted. I finally settled on a picture that was from our sparkler send off as Shawn and I kissed. I got a notification that Shawn had posted. He had picked the photo of him holding me bridal style and we kissed. I read the caption.
"Twenty five years ago today I married my best friend, my soulmate, my rock, my everything. It feels like just yesterday Y/n and I were saying I do and having our first kiss as husband and wife. I still remember, as we kissed as husband and wife for the first time, feeling like the kiss was somehow even more magical than our kisses in the past, and I remember feeling like I was on top of the world. Y/n, my wife, still gives me those feelings. A quarter of a century after this picture was taken, and I'm still just as in love with Y/n as I was the day that I met her, if not more. I love you Y/n. Happy anniversary my love." He wrote. I smiled at him and posted the picture that I had chosen.
"It's been a quarter of a century since Shawn and I got married, and I'm somehow more in love with him than I was the moment that we met. Twenty five years of love, happiness, laughs, kiss, talks, everything, with my best friend. I love you so much Shawn. I always have and I always will. I'm the luckiest woman alive because of you. Happy anniversary babe!" I wrote. Shawn liked the post and then smiled at me.
"Come here babe, come sit on my lap." He said, so I did.
"You know, you're still just as handsome and sexy as you were when I met you." I said before kissing his cheek as I straddled his lap.
"Sexy, eh?" He asked. I nodded.
"Yup. For a man that's fifty years old you look pretty good." I said. Shawn smiled at me.
"Well for a woman that's fifty years old you still look like the most beautiful being that I've ever seen." He said. I smiled and then kissed him. Later on, we went upstairs to get ready for our date.
Shawn put a black dress that was a little see through on the bed. I brought it into the bathroom as he went to get changed in our bedroom. I looked at it. Shawn had picked it out for me. I then looked at myself in the mirror. Would I really be able to pull this dress off? I stepped out of the bathroom. Shawn was getting into black dress pants. He looked at me.
"Why aren't you wearing the dress honey? Do you need help putting it on?" Shawn asked. I put the dress on the bed and hugged. He hugged back. "What's wrong love?"
"Do you really think that I'm still going to look good in a dress like that?" I asked as I looked up at him with tears in my eyes.
"Of course I do. You're so beautiful honey, the most beautiful girl in the world. Why do you ask that honey?" Shawn asked.
"Come on Shawn. I'm fifty years old. I'm getting gray hair and things are sagging. I don't know what you see anymore." I said as I began to cry. Shawn held me close to him.
"Who cares about age? You still look just as beautiful as you did they moment that I laid eyes on you, if not more. And you want to know what I see in you?" He asked. I nodded.
"Yeah." I said.
"I see my favorite person. I see the woman who helped to make me a father. I see my beautiful bride. I see my everything. So if you ever wonder what I see in you, remember what I just said. You're my everything, and you're going to look so beautiful in that dress." Shawn said. I nodded and gave him a quick kiss.
"I love you. Sorry about the crying." I said.
"I love you too, and don't worry about it honey." Shawn said. I nodded and went into the bathroom and changed into the dress. I did my hair and makeup and then smiled at myself in the mirror. Okay, so maybe I actually did look good. I stepped out of the bathroom and saw Shawn wearing a white button down shirt. He smiled at me.
"How do I look?" I asked. He walked towards me and kissed me.
"Like my beautiful, stunning, breathtaking, and amazing wife." Shawn said. I blushed, causing Shawn to chuckle.
"Well you look pretty damn good too. Let me just get my heels on and then I'll be ready to go." I said and Shawn nodded. We went out to dinner and had a wonderful time. Afterwards, we went home and made sweet and beautiful love. I love Shawn so much, and I'm so lucky to be his wife.
