166. Rose Is On The Red Carpet

I woke up in the morning feeling like crap. My nose felt stuffed up, I had a headache, and I felt like I was going to puke. I opened my eyes and saw that my husband, the singer and songwriter Shawn Mendes, was still asleep. I suddenly had the urge to puke and got out of his grip as I ran into the bathroom to throw up. I then felt someone rubbing my back.

"You okay love?" Shawn asked. I wiped my mouth after I finished puking and then shook my head.

"No. I feel so beyond lousy." I said. I felt bad because Shawn looked so concerned. He put the back of his hand to my forehead and then made a face as he pulled his hand away.

"You're burning up babe. Why don't you stay here at the hotel tonight?" Shawn said and asked.

"Oh crap, I completely forgot about the award show tonight. I'm so sorry Shawn." I said. Shawn shrugged.

"It's okay baby. I just want my wife to feel better. Wait, you and Rose are the same size in clothes, right?" Shawn asked as he mentioned our eighteen year old daughter who had come to Los Angeles with us. I nodded.

"Yeah." I said. Shawn smiled.

"What if I bring my Rosie girl to the award show tonight?" Shawn asked. I thought for a moment before nodding.

"Sure, if she's up for it." I said. Shawn nodded. Shawn then pulled out his phone and asked Rose to come to our hotel room since she was staying in her own room. Soon, there was a knock at the door and Shawn let Rose in.

"Good morning mom, good morning Daddy." Rose said.

"Good morning sweet pea. I have a favor to ask, and you can totally say no if you want to." Shawn said. Rose nodded.

"Okay." She said.

"Your mom isn't feeling good, and I know that you guys are the same size in clothes. Would you like to wear your mother's dress and be my plus one to the award show tonight?" Shawn asked. Rose's whole face lit up as she smiled.

"Really?" She asked. Shawn and I chuckled. Shawn nodded.

"Really." He said.

"I'd love to!" She said. Shawn stood up and hugged her. I stayed away since I didn't want to get her sick.

"Okay, I'll let Andrew know. Are interviews okay, or no?" Shawn said and asked. Rose thought for a moment before shrugging her shoulders.

"Interviews are fine. As long as I'm with my Daddy, I'm okay." Rose said with a smile, causing Shawn to smile. Rose, and her sister Sarah, who's back at home, are big Daddy's girls, but Rose more so than Sarah. Our son Jake, who is also at home, is a big Momma's boy, which I love.

"Here Rose, let me show you my dress." I said as I brought her over to the closet. It was a long, flowy red dress. Rose's eyes widened.

"I love it! What's dad going to be wearing?" Rose asked.

"A black and white suit and tie. Are you excited?" I said and asked. Rose smiled and nodded.

"Yeah. I'm kind of nervous, but I'm mostly excited." Rose said. I smiled and nodded. Not too many hours later, it was time for Shawn and Rose to get ready.

Rose's point of view

I put on the flowy red dress that belongs to my beautiful mother, and smiled. Was I really about to walk on the red carpet and then go to an award show with my dad, the legendary Shawn Mendes? Yes. My mom was originally going to be the one to go with my dad to the show, but she got sick, so she can't make it. I did some light make up and let my long, slightly curly, brown hair that I got from my father. I put on red heels that went with the dress and stepped out of the hotel bathroom.

"Wow Rose! You look great!" Andrew, or as my siblings and I call him, Uncle Andrew, said. He's been managing my dad since my dad was fifteen and he's definitely a part of our family. I smiled.

"Thank you. Where's my dad?" I asked as I looked around.

"Oh he just ran out to grab something, he'll be back in a couple of minutes." Uncle Andrew said. I nodded. Soon, my dad walked in with a bouquet of roses in his hand. He handed me the roses as he smiled.

"Some roses for my Rosie girl." He said. I smiled at him and heard a click. I looked over and saw that Uncle Josiah, my dad's photographer, had captured that moment.

"Sorry, that was just such a cute moment, I had to." Uncle Josiah said. My dad and I laughed.

"It's okay, but I definitely want a copy of that picture please." My dad said. Uncle Josiah nodded.

"You got it man." Uncle Josiah said.

"Are you guys ready to go?" Uncle Andrew asked. I nodded.

"Actually, could you give Rosie and I a moment please?" My dad asked. Everyone nodded and left the room.

"Is everything okay dad?" I asked. He nodded.

"Yes. I just want to say that I'm very proud of you for doing this, and if at any point you get nervous and want to leave, just let me know and we'll leave right away, okay?" My dad asked. I nodded.

"Okay." I said.

"You look beautiful sweet pea. My little girl isn't so little anymore, is she?" My dad asked and I could tell that he was about to get emotional, so I hugged him. He hugged back of course.

"Thank you for saying I look beautiful Daddy." I said.

"You're welcome." Daddy said. We then left the room and dad helped me into the car because of my dress. We soon arrived at the venue. My dad got out first and held out his hand for me to take so he could help me out of the car. As soon as I was out of the car, my dad and I started to walk arm and arm on the red carpet, occasionally posing for pictures. Soon, an interviewer asked to talk to us.

"Julia Hoffman here from E! News here with Shawn Mendes. Shawn, is this your daughter?" Julia asked. My dad nodded and smiled proudly.

"Yep. This is my oldest daughter, Rose. My younger daughter, Sarah Grace is at home with her brother Jake." Dad said. Julia nodded.

"So Rose, what's it like to be here, on the red carpet, with your legend of a father?" Julia asked. Some nerves started to set in and my dad must have been able to tell because he gave my shoulder a squeeze.

"It's really nice and cool. I like spending time with my dad, so this is fun." I said with a smile.

"That's great! Is your dad protective of you?" Julia asked. I giggled a little.

"Yes, definitely, especially when it comes to boys." I said.

"She's not allowed to date until she's thirty, but my wife wants me to be more realistic." Dad said.

"Speaking of your beautiful wife, where is she?" Julia asked.

"Well, she was going to come with tonight, but she got sick this morning so I asked Rose to fill in for her, which made Rose very excited." Dad said.

"Well I hope Y/n feels better. Have fun tonight guys, and good luck Shawn!" Julia said. We thanked her and walked away. My dad quickly pulled me in for a tight, but not too tight, hug.

"You did great! I'm so proud of you Rosie!" Dad said. I smiled.

"Thank you Daddy." I said. We posed a few more times before another interviewer called us over.

"So, Shawn, who is here with you tonight?" The interviewer asked.

"This is my oldest daughter, Rose. My wife got sick this morning so Rose is filling in for her." Dad said.

"Well I'm sorry that your wife is sick but are you having fun Rose?" The interviewer asked. I nodded.

"Yeah, definitely. I've never been on the red carpet before, so this is cool." I said. The interviewer nodded.

"So Rose, I'm curious even though this is random, does your first memory involve your father?" The interviewer asked. I thought for a moment before laughing at the memory.

"Yes. It involves both of my parents actually. I remember going into the kitchen to tell my parents that my brother and I were hungry, my sister hadn't been born yet, and my mom was sitting on the kitchen counter and her and my dad were kissing. When I interrupted them, they told me to go tell Jake that lunch was ready, and I remember as I was walking away, hearing my dad say to my mom 'This isn't over.'" I said with a laugh. I looked over at my dad, whose face was a bright red, causing me to laugh harder.

"Shawn, you're blushing." The interviewer said. My dad turned to me with a grin.

"I never knew that that was your first memory." He said. I nodded and we soon moved on and went inside the venue.

"Woah." I said as I looked around at the place.

"You okay sweet pea?" My dad asked, a look of concern etched across his face. I nodded.

"Yeah, this place is just so... big. Where are we sitting?" I asked. My dad chuckled and then pointed to a spot. We were brought to our seats and my dad's nomination came up.

"And the award for best male of artist of the year goes to... SHAWN MENDES!" The person said. My dad immediately leaned over and hugged me.

"I'm so proud of you Daddy." I said.

"Thank you." He said as he fist bumped Uncle Andrew and then went up onstage.

"I knew he would win." I said to Uncle Andrew, causing Uncle Andrew to smile and nod. My dad accepted the award and then went up to the microphone to make his speech.

"Wow, um thank you so much to my whole entire team. Andrew, Ziggy, Teddy, all of you guys are amazing. Thank you to my amazing fans who have always supported me. Thank you to my parents and my sister. And last but extremely far from least, thank you to my beautiful wife Y/n Mendes, and my amazing kids, Rose, Jake, and Sarah Grace. Rose is actually here tonight. Y/n, Rose, Jake, and Sarah Grace, you guys are my whole entire world and I love you so much. Thank you guys!" My dad said before walking off stage. He soon came back to his seat.

"Congratulations Daddy!" I said. My dad kissed the top of my head.

"Thank you sweet pea." My dad said. The award show soon came to an end and I fell asleep in the car while leaning on my dad's shoulder when we were on our back to the hotel. I was soon woken up by my father.

"Huh? Did I fall asleep?" I asked. My dad chuckled.

"Yes, you did. Come on Rosie, we're back at the hotel." Dad said.

"Carry me." I said jokingly. Apparently my dad didn't realize that I was joking because he actually picked me up and carried me back to my room.

"Good night honey. I'm so proud of you. You did great tonight." My dad said. I smiled at him and gave him a hug.

"Thanks Daddy. Good night. I love you." I said. My dad smiled.

"I love you too." He said. I went into my hotel room, took off my dress, and crashed on the bed. I'll worry about my makeup and stuff tomorrow. I'm just glad that I had a really nice night and that my dad won an award.
