Chapter 6: Cozy Cafe
-Zeref P. O. V.-
My companion and I carried our lanterns with us as she guided me through the market. After a few minutes, we were walking down a normal street. No booths, just a street with buildings and people strolling by on occasion. We turned a corner into view of the cafe, confirming my thoughts about what we were doing next. I was looking forward to how she was going to get us some food, considering, once again, that we don't have any money. We sat down at a table outside and put our lanterns by our feet. She then looked at me with expectant eyes.
"What do you want, Zeref? This place serves each customer one free pastry and one free small drink. They have milk and coffee, and they have cookies, biscuits, donuts, and cakes. And muffins, I love muffins! And the milk is pretty good. What do you want?"
"I always was fond of biscuits and cookies, but a muffin or donut sounds pretty good. I guess I'll have a muffin, too. With some milk, coffee's a bit too strong for me." She giggled at this and I looked at her confused. "What?"
"I never would have guessed that the great almighty Black Wizard Zeref couldn't handle mere coffee!" Normally, I would take offense to this, but from her cheerful smile, I could tell it was a joke. I laughed along with her. Soon enough, a waitress, around her mid-twenties, took our order and came back with our four free items in a few minutes. She nibbled on her muffin like a cute, little animal. My muffin was delicious, and the milk complimented it. "Are you enjoying yourself?" I was taken back a little bit.
"Excuse me?"
"Are you enjoying yourself? We met an interesting man, learned a lesson about two colors, ate some tasty food, and soon, we're going to go up to the lookout to release our lanterns into the night sky! How can you not enjoy yourself?"
"T-the lookout?" She nodded her head.
"Yes, the lookout. According to the sign up there, the site is called 'Lover's Point.' It's famous for couples having their first kisses while sending off their lanterns! I never came here with a person I loved, but I go up there every time I visit to see the beautiful sight of the lanterns! I wonder if we'll see our friend from the market there. The man who gave us the lanterns. Are you excited to see the lanterns, Zeref?"
Lover's Point. Lovers. Do I... love... Mavis? Does she... love me? Don't be silly, Zeref, get a hold of yourself. She is just helping you to walk the path of light. She has no interest in you other than as a companion. Caught up in thought, I forgot that Mavis had asked me a question. "Y-yes. I'm enjoying myself q-quite nicely and I'm looking f-forward to seeing those b-beautiful lanterns. It will be a v-very beautiful sight." Why am I so... nervous?
-Mavis P. O. V.-
Zeref was acting strange. Almost as if he was nervous about going to see the lanterns at Lover's Point. Wait a second. Lover's Point. Is Zeref nervous because, he knows that I love him? Or... is it because... he loves me?! What do I do? If he hasn't figured out that I love him yet, I'll freak him out if I mention it. I'll just play it cool. "Are you okay, Zeref?" He sat a bit straighter, finishing his muffin and milk. I had finished two minutes ago.
"Y-yes, Mavis. I j-just think it's getting kind of l-late. Won't the lanterns be s-starting soon?" I looked around and noticed that the sun had begun to set.
"Oh, it appears so. Oh dear! If we don't leave soon, we won't be able to get to the lookout in time! Let's go!" I held my lantern in one hand and pulled Zeref by the wrist with the other, he also had his lantern in his other hand. I started towards Lover's Point. Maybe this is the time. Maybe this is the time... for me to tell him that I love him...
-Zeref P. O. V.-
Mavis took off, guiding me to the lookout, up the path on the hill to it's top. I was nervous. What if she DID love me? What would she do? What would I do? My heart was racing. And I don't know why. Is is possible that... I loved her, too? I looked back at the cafe. We left our empty plates there. We didn't need to pay a bill, so we just left. We just left. As did my sadness. I could not be sad whenever she was around.
