Intro

Jimmy stared out the window, watching as the grass in the fields fluttered with the wind.

"Do I have to go?" He asked quickly, not even looking to his older brother.

Scott gave a sad smile. "Yeah, I have to go to school, you know this." Jimmy nodded his head begrudgingly, not sure what he wanted to believe.

The nice car turned onto an even smaller road, unpaved and made of dirt. Jimmy cringed as the car bounced across rocks. It was quiet and uncomfortable, but he didn't mind. "Did you tell them that we are coming?"

Scott shook his head. "Nope, they haven't been seen in 19 years, I don't even think they have a phone. Regardless, they should be fine with this."

However, as the car trudged further across the dirt, literal signs made Jimmy think twice.

[TURN BACK, ALL VIOLATORS WILL BE SHOT ON SIGHT]

[RABID ANIMALS, DO NOT APPROACH]

[EXPLOSIVES TESTING AHEAD]

[YOUR LIFE IS IN OUR HANDS NOW]

"Uh... are you sure?" Jimmy asked, curling into the seat. He was suddenly feeling way more nervous. "Maybe you should have called first..."

"Nonsense, who doesn't love family?"

Finally, just on a hill, Jimmy could see a large house on the hill. It looked like a farm house but larger. A mansion.

"I don't want to go." Jimmy urged, grabbing Scott's arm tightly.

His brother cursed, catching the steering wheel after a minute. "It will be fine, just calm down." He tried to urge, pushing Jimmy off of him. "Look, there is a rumor that they have millions of dollars stacked up somewhere, it has to be on this property! How about you find it, just like one of those little stories you make up? Then we can buy ourselves a nice house, just like mum and dad wanted." Scott asked greedily but Jimmy was oblivious, still wary of his uncles.

Finally, they pulled up to the house.

Instantly opening the door, he was hounded apon. Literally.

Dogs bit at his ankles and a bird flew to his hair, instantly pulling at it. Jimmy cried out, climbing ontop of the car.

Meanwhile, Scott just walked out, sighing at the pitiful sight while staying untouched. The dogs and bird paid him no mind.

"Come on, I hear noise down by the pond." Scott ushured, already walking. Jimmy just jumped over the animals and ran like his life depended on it. To be honest, he felt like it did.

Walking through tall grass, Jimmy could see his brother wincing at getting his nice clothing all dirty. Scott always tended to dress up nicer that Jimmy, being the one in control of the money after all (that was, admittedly, draining) and being the older out of the two.

Jimmy froze when a large bang was heard from the pond. He hadn't noticed it before from the commotion at the car but now that he did, it sounded exactly like gunshots.

And he was right.

Two men sat in a boat on the lake, both with shotguns in hand that they pointed at the lake. They kept shooting into the water, howling with laughter if they hit a fish.

Jimmy, despite already being taller, tried to hide behind Scott in an effort to make himself smaller. He flinched as another round exploded in the water.

"Hey, hi!" Scott shouted, waving his arms in the air as he continued walking.

Jimmy felt like he was going to die.

The two men stopped what they were doing, squinting at them as they walked down the hill to the pond, Scott hollering still. One of them muttered to the other, a slight lift of his lip as if he told a joke but the other shook his head, face grim.

Well, he might also just die from embarrassment.

---

Jimmy sat on the porch, fiddling with his blue jacket that he had stolen from Scott ages ago. He could hear faint yelling but he could hear each word clearily.

"Are you kidding? Some wimpy kid staying with us? We don't even know you two!"

"I know it seems that way but your sister was our mother. I just need to make sure he is watched over while I'm in college." Scott urged, Jimmy recognizing the pleading and charm he put in his voice. "He's a good kid, smart and kind. He could learn from a few men like yourselves."

There was a sigh.

Whatever was said next were whispers, Jimmy unable to follow.

It wasn't like he could pay attention as a macaw flew at his face.

He screamed, falling back onto the steps, letting it perch on his legs. The bird leaned in close, seeming to side eye him as Jimmy's arms raised in surrender. He didn't want to die to a dumb bird today.

"Nice doggy?" He asked, voice cracking. The bird only twisted its head in confusion.

Luckily, the door behind him slammed open.

Jimmy jumped to his feet, the bird screaming as it was forced to fly away. Turning, he saw Scott with that cheeky grin that told Jimmy instantly that he had gotten his way.

"Come help me get your bag, your uncles agreed to watch you." Scott waved him over as he walked to the car.

Jimmy trudged behind, feet digging in the dirt. He hated the way Scott was humming happily, unaware of the conflict behind him.

Opening the trunk, Jimmy took his suitcase. He didn't have many possessions anyways so it was mostly his valuables and clothes.

Scott smiled, patting his cheek before walking to the driver door. Jimmy was left to close the trunk and trudge away from the car. He peered through the open window, seeing Scott staring in the mirror.

Jimmy wondered if he would get a hug this time.

Luck wasn't on his side. Scott leaned in close to the window, motioning to Jimmy to come closer.

"Do you have to go?" Jimmy asked, heartbroken. "I just want to stay with you..."

Scott just gave him a look, patronizing his younger brother. "You know I can't take you with. I'll see you soon." He then leaned even closer, "Oh, and don't forget to find their money." Before Jimmy knew it, Scott stepped on the pedal and the car lurched forward.

He watched silently, bag at his feet as the car turned around and went down the empty road, leaving Jimmy at his uncle's house alone.

(What we thinking about this? My sibling called me a nerd for wanting to write this in the first place so thats oof for me.)
