Chapter 2
The last thing Lena Luthor remembered before the world went dark was helping those who had survived the escape from Earth 38 during Crisis before they were still wiped out by antimatter energy.
The next thing she knew, she was waking up in a strange place that looked like a platform in the middle of space.
"Where the hell am I?" Lena asked, trying to get her bearings.
"A place where I hope you can learn from your past mistakes before I allow you to join the others in the new world Kara Zor-El and her friends helped create." a new voice said as Lena turned to see a man wearing some kind of ridiculous bulky suit and he had these strange ridges in his head.
"Who the hell are you?" Lena asked.
"I am Mar Novu, also known as the Monitor. And I've brought you here for two reasons. One, because of a deal I made with your brother to ensure that you survived the crisis one way or another with your mind intact. However, before I can fulfill that promise, I need to ensure that you will not continue down the path you already started down. The path of a villain." Novu said, shocking Lena.
"I'm not a villain." Lena denied.
"Oh really. So lying and manipulating people, you don't consider that villainous?" Novu asked her.
"I was trying to help people. Kara lied to me. I was trying to keep people from feeling the pain I felt." Lena said.
"Really. Because I can't imagine why Ms. Zor-El would feel the need to keep her identity hidden from you. It isn't as though you gave her reasons to keep it from you, like performing dangerous experiments behind her back that nearly got her killed." Novu said and before Lena could protest, Novu caused a projection of the daxamite portal Lena had created and the invasion she'd started before switching to Kara giving up her happiness with Mon-El to stop it.
"You caused an alien invasion and Ms. Zor-El was forced to sacrifice her own happiness to stop it." Novu said.
"Rhea tricked me into building that portal. I never would've done it if I'd known what she really was." Lena said.
"True. But what about how you kept the secret of the identity of the person who nearly killed her about six months later." Novu said as he then projected images of Reign beating Supergirl to a pulp which then shifted to Lena keeping the truth secret.
"I was trying to protect my friend." Lena said.
"And yet all you did was place everyone in danger by keeping one of the most dangerous entities on the planet locked up in a human made laboratory in the middle of a populated city. And then there's also the fact of what else you hid from her that same year." Novu said as the projected images changed to Lena revealing that she knew how to make kryptonite.
"She defended you as both Kara Danvers and Supergirl when no one else would and you repaid that loyalty by making her greatest weakness behind her back and then told her about it in the worst way possible. I can only wonder why she didn't tell you her secret sooner." Novu said and he could see that this time he'd hit a nerve, since Lena seemed to be unable to defend herself.
"And then, let's not forget about what you did the next year. Experimenting with Harun-El, despite not knowing its capabilities and then actually aiding your brother in escaping captivity?" Novu said.
"I didn't help him." Lena denied.
"Really, because you're the one who provided him with access to the harun-el in the first place. You allowed one of the most dangerous men on the planet to acquire powers he never should've had. Which created yet another mess that Kara Zor-El had to sort out. And then of course let's not forget what you were doing right before crisis." Novu reminded her as images of all of Lena's previous actions were forced out in front of her.
"You were planning to expose Supergirl's true identity to the world over a petty grudge and then you decided to use her for your own selfish ends. You lied to her, you stole from her, you manipulated her into stealing for you and then, you crossed the one line that makes you a true Luthor." Novu said, wanting Lena to say it.
"I used kryptonite on her." Lena realized as the walls she'd built up slowly started to come down.
"It's understandable that you were hurt by Kara's secret, but perhaps this will help you understand why she kept it from you for so long." Novu said as he held out his hand and the image changed to Kara and Lillian Luthor at the Fortress of Solitude.
Lena couldn't believe it when she heard that she'd basically proven her mother right. She'd grown to hate Kara for keeping a secret from her, just like Lillian had predicted, a thought that made her sick. Especially when she realized the truth about what she had been trying to do in the old reality.
"I really am a villain." Lena said, since no amount of hurt feelings could justify everything she'd done. Honestly, the only difference there was between her and Lex was the fact that she still had her hair, since she'd lied and manipulated everyone who cared about her, she'd imprisoned an alien, though not an innocent one, with the intent of using his powers for her own gain and she'd betrayed the one person who's always seen the good in her, even when no one else had. Kara had never given up on Lena and yet Lena had been so quick to turn on Kara because of a secret that Lena now understood had been kept to protect her. She just wondered if Kara would ever forgive her for what she did.
"You brought me here to keep me from working with Lex didn't you, since if I knew him, he no doubt made sure that he'd survive the crisis." Lena said and Novu nodded.
"Indeed, in order to survive, Lex Luthor used a piece of the book of destiny to make himself into a paragon in order to prevent himself being wiped out." Novu said.
"I'm almost afraid to ask, but which paragon is he?" Lena asked and Novu chuckled.
"Lex Luthor made himself the paragon of truth." Novu said and Lena couldn't help but laugh.
"Lex Luthor, the paragon of truth. Only the end of the world brings about something like that. But does that mean that he'll remember the old world too?" Lena asked.
"Normally yes, but I decided to pay a small portion of the debt I owe the universe for what my own hubris created, I erased his mind of the old reality." Novu said and Lena sighed in relief, since that was some good news.
"So, are you ready to finally talk things out with Ms. Danvers like you should have from the beginning?" Novu asked.
"If she'll even be willing to talk to me, since I'm assuming that she remembers the old world and everything I did." Lena said.
"She does, but remember, she's also the one who convinced the others not to give up on you." Novu said.
"Not that I'm complaining, since you probably just saved my friendships with everyone, but why do you care about whether or not I'm friends with Kara?" Lena asked.
"Because Ms. Danvers will need your help for the fights that are coming. Fights that even she isn't prepared to win alone." Novu said, much to Lena's surprise.
"What are you talking about?" Lena asked, only for Novu to snap his fingers and send her away before she could get any more answers.
