Chapter 17
When they returned to the conscious world, Tommy couldn't help but look down at his hands in horror at the things that he'd done with them. Or rather, the things Prometheus had done with them.
"Tommy." Oliver said as he placed his hand on his friend's shoulder.
"Don't Oliver. Don't tell me that what happened wasn't my fault. I'm the one who listened to my father and let him turn me into a person I don't even recognize. I killed people. Innocent people and I was willing to help my father kill even more people with what he has planned for the Glades." Tommy said.
"I already know exactly what your dad is planning and I'm going to kill him for it." Oliver said.
"Oliver, you can't stop his plans." Tommy said.
"Tommy, I am not the same man I was when I got the Queen's Gambit 5 years ago and I know exactly what kind of man your father is, in fact, before I go home, I'm planning on dealing with the man who trained your father." Oliver said.
"You really think you're skilled enough to do that?" Tommy asked.
"Tommy, I'm the Green Arrow. I've spent the past five years in some of the worst kinds of hell becoming someone who could actually defeat people like Ra's al Ghul." Oliver said.
"How?" Tommy asked.
"Because I was trained by his daughter Talia." Oliver said.
"Oliver, even if you are able to stop Ra's al Ghul, you can't stop my father. He's spent the past five years ensuring that no one could." Tommy said.
"Tommy, I can stop him if I know what he's planning." Oliver said, since while he was pretty sure that Malcolm was likely going to use an earthquake machine, after his experience on Earth Two, he wanted to be sure he covered all his bases.
"If I tell you, you need to promise me something in return." Tommy said.
"What?" Oliver asked.
"I want you to promise me that after you kill my father, that you'll kill me." Tommy said, shocking Oliver and Thea.
"Tommy, why the hell would you want him to kill you?" Thea asked her other brother.
"Because I can't keep living knowing all the things I've done." Tommy said.
"That wasn't you Tommy. That was Prometheus, a monster your father forced you to be." Oliver said.
"Maybe, but that doesn't change the fact that I remember everything I did as him. And I can't live with that." Tommy said.
"Tommy, you really think you're the only person who's done things they regret. You're not the only person who's killed. I have and I was aware of what I was doing every time I did it." Oliver said.
"But I'm guessing that every person you killed had it coming. Not to mention I tried to kill Thea. Speaking of which, where did you learn to fight like that?" Tommy asked.
"Long story." Thea said, trying to avoid getting to that topic.
"Tommy, I will never kill you. If you don't think you deserve forgiveness for what you did as Prometheus, fine. But don't throw in the towel because of that. Instead, work to become a man who does deserve forgiveness. And you can start by telling me what your father has planned." Oliver said and while Tommy wasn't sure he believed what Oliver was telling him, he decided that he might as well tell him what his father was doing, if only to try and protect people.
"You heard about how Merlyn Global was getting into alternative energy sources?" Tommy asked and Oliver didn't like where this was going.
"Yeah." Oliver said.
"That was actually a cover that my father was using to develop a weapon to destroy the Glades." Tommy said as Oliver and Thea looked at each other, since this was different then the plan Malcolm had originally come up with.
"What kind of weapon?" Thea asked.
"I didn't fully understand how it works, but what I do remember is that it involves something called dwarf star particles?" Tommy said and Oliver's blood ran cold, since that was exactly what Earth Two Tommy was going to use to destroy his world's version of the Glades.
"How long do we have before he pulls this off?" Thea asked.
"The machine isn't ready yet. If he tried using it now, well, let's just say he'd kill a whole lot more people than just the Glades." Tommy said.
"Okay then, that means we still have time to deal with Ra's and stop him before he finishes the machine and maybe put those particles to some good use." Oliver said as Nyssa entered.
"While I am pleased to see that you were successful in liberating Mr. Merlyn's mind, my father is becoming more active in this city. If you are going to defeat him, it must be now before more people die." Nyssa said and Oliver nodded.
"I'm looking forward to putting your father in his place. My only concern is what I'll do with the League after I win control of it, since none of us want that leadership." Oliver said.
"And neither does Talia. Apparently she's decided to renounce the League's path all together in favor of tracking down an old acquaintance from her past, though she did give her blessing for you to kill our father, since I explained to her that he is no longer the man he once was. She agreed that he had lost his honor and that's actually a part of why she trained you. In the hopes that you could defeat him and bring honor back to the League." Nyssa said and Oliver actually sighed in relief that he wouldn't have to worry about making an enemy of Talia.
"What about Maseo? We know that he's still loyal to the League and something tells me that he's not exactly thrilled with the direction Ra's is taking it in." Thea said.
"How do you know that?" Oliver asked as to his surprise, both Tatsu and Maseo entered the Tartarus.
"Because he told me and I told her." Tatsu said.
"Sarab." Oliver said.
"I'm not Sarab anymore Oliver. I'm Maseo again. Tatsu got me to see the light. You were right, running away from my pain was dishonoring Akio's memory and what Ra's is doing has no honor." Maseo said and Oliver smiled as he truly saw his old friend for the first time in years.
"Laurel will be happy to hear that. But Maseo, if I defeat Ra's in combat, will you take his place?" Oliver asked.
"Not exactly." Maseo said.
"Meaning?" Thea asked.
"The League will never accept Maseo as its leader if he's not the one who was given the ring. At least not willingly." Tatsu said and Oliver remembered how his decision to make Malcolm Ra's had led to a civil war within the league.
"I can yield the ring to you." Oliver offered.
"No, unless it's won through combat, they won't respect me and I have no desire to kill you Oliver and I know you won't be able to do that to me either. However, I believe that there is a way that we can all get what we want. While it has never been done before, there is no law saying that Ra's cannot appoint a proxy in his place, should he be unable to perform his duties. You would still hold the title of Ra's, but if you were to appoint me as your proxy." Maseo said.
"You could run the League on my behalf." Oliver said and honestly, he liked the sound of that. A guarantee of allies should he need them.
"So, do we have a plan?" Maseo asked.
"We do." Oliver said.
"Then I'll take you to Ra's for the challenge." Maseo said and Oliver nodded as they left the room.
I know, this chapter felt more like an Arrow chapter, but it needed to be in Artemis. I initially intended to have the chapter include Oliver's fight with Ra's but then I came up with this current idea. The fight with Ra's will be in the next chapter of Arrow, just to wrap that up and then I promise this story will start focusing on Thea and her team again. Still, hope you liked it.
