Who Needs Cinderella?
Facing a dearth of magic, the kingdom made an alliance with a clan of fairy godmothers. These magical creatures would arrange a ball in honor of the crown prince, and promised that the result would be exactly what he needed to be successful when he stepped into the role of king.
Throughout the evening of the ball, the prince's dance partners represented a wide swath of the populace. They were intelligent, amusing, and inspiring, but none stood out as someone he wished to spend the rest of his life with.
Finding himself dizzied by the constant swirl of waltz partners, he stepped onto a balcony for a bracing breath of fresh air. After a moment he turned around to see a dazzling creature, shining so brightly he could perceive only the barest outline of her form, which included wings.
"Are you a fairy godmother?" he asked, for he had not seen one in person, but who else could this be?
She nodded. "What have you learned this evening?" she asked, in a voice that sounded ageless.
"Not what I expected to learn," he admitted. "I have realized that our council has become stagnant, full of rich old men who lack creativity unless it's in the service of filling their coffers. Tomorrow I will announce a vast reform, disbanding the existing council and recreating it with a more diverse group. Many of this evening's dance partners will be asked to participate."
"You have done well," announced the fairy godmother. "We find you worthy. Tonight you shall receive your reward."
"A bride?" the prince asked.
"Is that what you wish?"
"I need a life partner, someone whose support I can rely on by day, and who will fulfill my lusts at night."
"And is that all you need of your bride?" the fairy godmother asked.
"There is the matter of an heir, of course," the prince added.
"Of course." With that, the creature disappeared, and the prince did not see her again until the ball ended and he had retired to his rooms.
The bright glow surrounding her was less harsh now. He could see her features clearly, and her wings had faded to the merest outline behind her. "You're younger than I expected," he told her. "I thought you would be more... well, more motherly."
"Most humans believe that Fairy God Mother is a title. They do not understand that it describes our three aspects. Most people who encounter us perceive only our fairy side, with the glow and the wings. But there are two other sides: the goddess, and the mother." As she said it, the glow and wings disappeared. She stood before him, a glorious and fiercely desirable young woman, wearing a sheer gown that highlighted voluptuous curves. She kissed him, and he was undone.
What followed was a night of the most intense passion he had ever experienced. She began undressing him, and he rushed to assist, his clothing falling to the floor in mere moments. Her gown was tossed to the side before they tumbled onto the bed. Hands explored and teased, voices growled and groaned and cried out in delighted torment. Truly she was a goddess in his bed. No other partner had ever so thoroughly slaked his lust. She was teasing when he felt playful, and a warrior when he needed a battle for dominance. He worshipped her for hours.
At dawn, he traced her curves and said, "The last side is the mother?"
She nodded, yawning as her hand cupped her belly. "My kind carry a child for ten months before it is born, but a royal wedding takes time to plan. We'll need to start immediately if we wish to be wed before it's obvious that I'm already expecting your heir."
