Everyone sat at a long table in the nice little restaurant we decided to have lunch. My parents were on one end of the table and Olivia and Macy on the other leaving my brother and I in the middle. My parents were curious and asked how we spent the night.
"It was so cool," Macy raved, "It exceeded all my expectations!"
"We had a lot of fun, isn't that right, Jin?" Olivia asked him maliciously.
"Um, yeah, a lot of fun, a lot of horrible singing," Younjin slightly grimaced holding his head due to Olivia's loud tone.
He had a big headache from all the drinks he had last night. He couldn't exactly stay at the hotel since he didn't want mom and dad to find out he had been drinking alcohol. Although I'm pretty sure they were onto him because he was not the type to wear sunglasses indoors.
"Did you take pictures?" my mom asked.
She was a fan of pictures and I picked up the habit from her. I always took a lot of pictures on my phone nothing fancy, Macy was the one into photography. Meanwhile, I simply loved capturing random moments. The only downside was it left my phone with nearly any storage and I refused to delete them even though they are backed up on the computer. I had an unreasonable fear of suddenly needing a random picture.
"Yes, I'll show you," I told her, handing her my phone.
Now, I didn't have anything to hide, but I made sure to turn off the notifications of some apps before giving her the phone with the first picture of the night selected. As she scrolled through the photos, she commented on how cute we all looked and that it sure looked like we had fun. At some point she leaned on my dad's shoulder as they looked through them. It was cute.
"What's this? A video?" she questioned and hit play.
I don't remember taking a video, but if I did it probably wasn't good. Who knows what was said in such video or what was happening. We were good kids, yet things can get out of context and seem worse than they actually are. It could be a video of Olivia singing a dirty song, or Macy trying to twerk, or Hana cussing like a sailor, but no, the world is too cruel for that. Instead it was me chanting 'shot' repeatedly as Youngjin, my underage brother, slammed a shot of tequila on a table. I didn't see the video, but I heard it clearly and so did everyone at the table.
Youngjin had slapped his forehead in disbelief, Macy was suddenly staring at her empty plate in interest, Olivia had her hands in her mouth, stifling a laugh, and I wanted the ground to swallow me whole as I stared at my parents shocked reaction. I saw my dad's lips quirk up trying very hard not to laugh trying to gauge my mom's reaction first.
"Why am I not surprised?" she sighed handing me back my phone.
"Are you mad?" Youngjin whimpered, covering his face and peering from between his fingers.
She wasn't mad exactly, but she did give us a long lecture of safe drinking and all that. I'll spare you the details. My dad eventually broke and started laughing as I sent him the video through text message which earned him a scowl from my mom, reprimanding him for "encouraging us".
"Tell me your plans for the next few days," Mom demanded, as we walked towards the hotel.
"We don't have anything planned for today, but tomorrow we're going to a BTS concert," I told her hesitantly.
Considering she knew the struggle we had for getting tickets for the concert in May she knew that a BTS concert was no easy feat. She was probably wondering how we managed that.
"Nari, again? Where did you even get the money for that?" she questioned suspiciously.
"Well, you see," I began, "I don't know how to say this," I trailed off looking for the easiest explanation.
"Does it have to do with the guy you've been talking to for the past few weeks and the one in the picture of Macy's birthday party," she gave me a knowing look.
"H-how do you know?" I stuttered, shocked that she had noticed.
"Nari, I'm your mother, I know all," she responded, "Now, tell me about this boy."
And, so, for what felt like the millionth time I told my mom the story of how Taehyung and I met and how I went out with him the other day. I did exclude some details, though. She quietly and added a few comments here and there.
"What sorcery did you do to meet an idol and become friends with him?" she laughed, shaking her head.
"I have no idea mother, but I'm not complaining he is a really nice guy and I'm glad I got to know him," I admitted not only to her but to myself.
"Does he have to do with the reason you're doing the exchange program?"
"Not really, I did it because I wanted to get out of my comfort zone and the opportunity presented itself, I wanted to relate more to you and dad and get closer to the family."
She had asked a valid reason and to some it might seem like I did it for Taehyung but that was not it at all. I wasn't about to move to a foreign country for some guy, idol or not. I've opened up a lot to Taehyung recently and it might have to do with the fact that I had some idea as to who he was but on a normal scenario I would have been very skeptical.
"That's nice, I'm proud of you," she smiled at me looping our arms together.
"Thanks Mom."
"Hey! Don't steal my mom!" Youngjin yelled, running up to us and pulling me away from her.
"Mamma's boy," I scoffed, sticking my tongue out.
I felt my phone vibrate from inside my purse and pulled it out to see a text from Taehyung. Who else would it be? I barely talked to anyone else since the girls were with me.
It would be nice to see the others again. At least this time my fan girling would be under control, not like it wasn't that time, but I'd be able to speak normally and not like I was scared to say the wrong thing. For some reason, in my head it seemed like it had been a year since I first met them but it had only been less than two months. So far, I got along great with Taehyung and Jimin so I'd probably have no problem with the rest.
In the afternoon we had decided to go to a park and have a sort of picnic with snacks. Olivia and I lay on a blanket we bought from a store nearby while Macy and Youngjin walked around taking pictures.
"Can you imagine the audacity of that guy? For flirting with me?" Olivia passionately ranted.
"Why are you upset? I thought you enjoyed a guy flirting with you?"
"Normally, yes, but he was so challenging in a way and you bet your ass I wasn't going to back down," she sassed, "He took the fun out of flirting."
"Or he just added to it?" I gave her a look knowing she actually loved the challenge.
"Maybe a little bit, it was cute to see him get all flustered once I won," she chuckled.
"There's my Liv."
"Don't tease me!"
"You deserve it after your relentless teasing about Taehyung this past week," I argued, sitting up and glaring at her.
"You're right..." she grimaced.
After taking a short 15-minute nap while laying on the grass Olivia and I sat entertained at Macy's and Youngjin's flirting.
"When do you think they'll admit to flirting?" Liv wondered.
"Macy would never, it's going to be Youngjin who will admit it first," I knew my brother so I'd place my bet on him.
"Does it bother you?"
"Nah, I know them well and know they are a good match. Although, if they do decide to date I don't want them to get me in the middle of things."
Soon after our conversation the lovebirds walked over to us and after brainstorming what to do, we settled on getting manicures and pedicures, Youngjin included.
"I guess I can see why you girls like doing this," Youngjin mentioned from the pedicure chair.
"It's relaxing, right?" Olivia agreed as she reclined on the massaging chair.
"Sure, if you look past the fact that they are literally grating your feet," he said, and I hated to admit he was kind of right.
"Whatever." Olivia rolled her eyes sinking further into the chair.
"What should I expect from the concert?" my brother suddenly piped up.
"Um, let's see, a lot of screaming girls and pure talent," Macy summed up with her fingers under her chin.
"I'm ready to see them again, especially if they sing older songs," Olivia squealed, grabbing my arm shaking me.
"So, this one is different because..."
"Because it's their anniversary and they do skits and sing older songs," I explained after getting Liv off of me.
"Got it!"
"You should know the songs Jin, don't deny it," I taunted him knowing he knew most not only because of me but because he actually liked them.
"I have no idea why you would think such a thing!"
