January 20, 2020
New Year's had come and gone, meaning I was back home in California. Classes had started back up too with exam week right around the corner coming. As always Taehyung and I kept in contact whether that was texting, calling or face timing. We were lucky that we didn't have to be apart for long since he arrived in California two days ago in order to promote their new album, Map of The Soul: 7. I had to resist driving up to their hotel to visit him the same day he arrived, but I held back knowing I would be seeing him today. The time had finally come for him to meet my parents and I wasn't sure who was more nervous me or him.
Taehyung had asked me so many questions about my parents trying to figure out what to expect when he came to my house. All I told him was not to worry my parents would love him the same as I did because he was a great guy. Avoiding the small detail that my dad would probably give him a hard time to see how he reacts, I didn't need him to freak out on me.
Once he left the hotel, he texted me he was on his way already. I counted the minutes till his arrival, staying close to the door, so I'd be the one to open it. Dad was busy in the backyard preparing everything for the BBQ. I was hesitant at first about his idea, but maybe it was for the best since it would be a lot less informal and more easy going. Youngjin had just come back from picking up Macy, he had unnecessarily insisted on having her there since I would be bringing Taehyung. I say unnecessary because I had no problem with her being there, she would help keeping my brother in check so he wouldn't make too many unnecessary comments. Lastly, mom was around the house cleaning any last-minute spots she left behind. That woman was insane the house was already spotless, yet she insisted it wasn't cleaning the oven, the hallway closet and the plants in the entrance. Yes, a plant.
Noticing my bouncing knee and how my eyes shifted from my phone to the door Macy approached me to try and calm me down.
"Everything is going to be fine," Macy reassured me as she plopped down into the couch beside me.
"I know I'm still nervous though," I responded quietly, jumping when my phone buzzed.
"What is there to be nervous about? Taehyung is the perfect guy for you, and he loves you so much I'm sure your parents will see that," she firmly told me, grabbing hold of my shoulders and shaking me lightly.
"You're 100% right," I nodded, calming down, but when my phone buzzed again telling me Taehyung was pulling up the nervousness rose back up again.
"He's here!" I jumped from the couch to run to the door. Youngjin intercepted me, pushing me, causing me to slam against a wall as he yanked the door open to reveal Taehyung holding a bouquet of flowers.
"Taehyung, you're here!" Jin yelled, ushering him in and giving him a bro hug.
Rubbing my arm in pain from my brother's stupidity, I approached my boyfriend enveloping him in a hug. Macy waved high to Taehyung, dragging my brother out of the room with her to give us some privacy.
"I missed you, Tae," I lightly said, staring up at him my arms still around him.
"I missed you too, little flower," he smiled, leaning down to give me a short, sweet kiss.
"Come, let me introduce you to my parents, they are in the backyard."
Taehyung hesitated before letting me grab his hand to take him to the back. I squeezed his hand in reassurance and shot him a smile, it was the only thing I could do the rest was up to him. In the backyard my dad was heating up the grill while mom sat on a chair flipping through a magazine. There was a table set up where my dad would prepare the food as it came out of the grill. Youngjin was sitting by the pool in one of the long lounge chairs scattered around, Macy sitting between his legs.
Her eyes looking up from the magazine mom shot up excited to meet Taehyung, "Hello dear, you must be Taehyung."
"Yes, ma'am, nice to meet you," Taehyung nodded, bowing in 90 degrees to show respect, "These are for you," he said, giving her the flowers.
"You're a charming one aren't you," she smiled at him, "I'll be back better put these in water."
Taehyung shot her a small nervous smile, nodding as she left, his eyes, then trailed to my dad who was already assessing him with his lawyer eyes.
"Kim Taehyung, huh?" Dad extended his hand in a handshake.
"Yes, sir," Taehyung said, shaking dad's hand.
"You're one of the boys on my daughter's walls?" my father had the audacity to say.
"Dad!" I exclaimed, hoping he'd shut up.
"Well, it's true, isn't it?" he retorted, raising his hands in defense.
"That's not the point," I whined while Taehyung held back a laugh.
"I'll shut up for now, I have to get these hamburgers cooking."
The night was so contradicting on one hand, my family didn't bother Taehyung too much on the other they embarrassed me non-stop. It all started with childhood pictures which wasn't so bad I was a cute kid, it then progressed to telling stories about me and the stupid things I've done in my short life. Lastly, they spoke about my life as a BTS fangirl telling Taehyung how much I love BTS and how I'd fangirl every time something new came out. My family exaggerated everything and made the things I did so much more dramatic than it really was. I wanted the earth to swallow me whole and take me away from this torture. Taehyung only laughed along with my family shooting me apologetic looks.
"You're lucky you met her in time we almost set her up with other people," Mom said, nudging my dad who only nodded.
"Mom!" I cried out for the millionth time tonight.
"Honey relationships take time, and we want grandchildren before we are old and gray," she explained as if it was the most obvious thing in the world, making me cover my face with my hands.
"You're right, I'm lucky she found me, I don't know what I'd do without her," Taehyung sweetly told my parents. Spreading my fingers, I peeked at him to see him smiling at me.
Later that night, after stuffing ourselves with burgers and steak, I remembered to give Taehyung the black coat I had gifted him for Christmas since it had been mixed with my clothes when I went to New York.
"Oh! Your coat is upstairs come with me," I told Taehyung, grabbing his hand and leading him into the house.
"Keep the door open and don't do anything I wouldn't do," Youngjin yelled disregarding the fact my parents were right there with us. I'm going to kill him later tonight, probably while he sleeps. It'll be so easy. I glared at him while walking into the house, Macy smacking his arm scolding him even if she didn't fully understand what he said due to her limited Korean.
"He's right," Dad sang, giving me a look.
Huffing and puffing, I dragged Taehyung up the stairs and into my room. Before you get concerned, I hid a lot of my BTS stuff only leaving certain stuff out like the poster framed on my wall and some of the BT21 plushies I had.
"How has your night been?" I asked Taehyung upset.
"Good," he smiled, sitting on my bed.
"Amazing because mine has been torture," Grumbling, I took out his coat from my closet angrily folding it.
"Don't get mad, Nari," he pouted, pulling me into his lap and burying his head on my shoulder.
"Here I was worried they'd give you a hard time, but all they've done is torture me," I whined, playing with the rings on my hand.
"It's not as bad as it seems. I'm still here and I still love you maybe even more than before," Taehyung comfortingly said, kissing my shoulder.
"Really?"
"Yes," he responded, squeezing my hips.
"While I have you alone..." he grinned, brushing his lips against mine
"I like where this is going," I giggled, holding his face in my hands.
We engaged in a little make out session having missed the other on the weeks we spent apart. I was into it not having the will to let him go my lips chasing his until a soft knock made us pull apart.
"Sorry to interrupt but it was either me or your brother," Macy said with sympathy as she stuck her head into the room.
"Keep that boy away from me," I glared at no one in particular, getting up from Taehyung's lap.
"He's insane," Macy agreed, walking with us.
"I don't know how you can date him," I said, shaking my head.
"Not sure what you're talking about we're nothing," she laughed, still denying they were anything but friends.
After dessert made by yours truly, I was talking with Taehyung and dad when Youngjin came out of the house looking for me and telling me mom needed me inside.
"Mom, you called?"
"Um, no?" she answered confused, washing the dessert plates we had used.
Eyes widening and mouth falling open I realized what they had done. They distracted me to get Taehyung alone and tell him whatever they had in mind.
"Should I be worried about Dad talking to Tae alone?"
"No, I think your dad likes him despite it all," she nonchalantly said.
"Despite it all?" I raised an eyebrow at her answer.
Turning off the faucet she faced me, "I'm not going to lie to you we were a little guarded, worried about his status as an idol. Not anymore though he's proven to be a great guy with good intentions and you two make a great match."
"Thanks mom," I gave her a small smile, relieved they approved.
"You're welcome sweetie," she spoke, holding my chin in her hand.
The night last part of the night I was able to enjoy my family laying off my back and letting me happy. Sadly, it was time for Taehyung to go back to the hotel and rest for his busy schedule. I would have liked to stay with him, and I did think about it but school was an impediment.
"Goodbye Taehyung don't be a stranger," Dad told Taehyung waving at him.
"Goodbye Mr. Seong!"
"Come here sweetheart," mom called him over, giving him a hug, "It was nice meeting you and I hope to see you soon," she winked at him.
"Invite him to the anniversary," mom whispered in ear when she walked by me.
I obviously accompanied him outside to the car, hoping to have one last moment with him away from prying eyes.
"Thank you for coming."
"It was nice to see you and meet your family too. You were right, they are great a lot like you," Taehyung spoke, kissing the back of our intertwined hands.
"I'm not sure if I should take that as a compliment," I joked, referencing my family's behavior.
"Will you come see me this week?" he gave me puppy dog eyes to convince me.
"For sure, you're close to me, I can't take that for granted," I promised, leaning into him.
"Good, I'll be waiting."
"One more thing before you leave," I stopped him before he opened the door to the car, "My parents are celebrating their 25tth wedding anniversary and told me to invite you, I know your busy so it's okay if you can't." I hoped with all my heart he could go but if he couldn't I'd understand.
"I'll make time for it," he said, promising me he'd be there.
"Why are you so perfect?" I asked, with a stupid grin.
"Because I have the perfect girl with me," he responded, turning me to mush.
"Stop," I whined, not being able to handle his cuteness.
"Never," he chuckled, kissing me goodbye.
The porch light turned on, letting us know someone was watching, "I think I should leave," Taehyung laugh.
I nodded, waving at him from the sidewalk as he drove away.
My face turning serious I went into the house ready to commit murder and become an only child.
