It was just a cough...

That's what it started as...

Just a minor cough...

Logan thought nothing of it at first, Patton, Roman, nor Virgil were feeling off or anything. So there was no reason to panic.

Thomas just had a simple cough... No cause for alarm...

Until a few weeks went by, and his cough still lingered and grew worse...

Soon enough, Patton was coughing just as bad. He continued to say he was fine because he didn't feel bad, it was just a sore throat to him...

Virgil felt incredibly worried, but he tried to reason with himself, it was probably nothing.... He was never able to fully convince himself of that however...

Especially when Logan began coughing...

Eventually all four of them were...

Logan concluded that they were all sick which meant that Thomas was... But he said the symptoms bring no cause for alarm and that Thomas should just rest.

Thomas listened to Logan and rested.

Joan came over a few days out of the week to check on him, which he was thankful for...

One day though...

Joan was sitting on the couch, looking up something on their laptop while Thomas was getting a glass of water in the kitchen

That was just a peaceful silence...

Until they heard a shattered from the kitchen...

"Thomas?!" Joan asked getting up, they rushed over to the kitchen...

Thomas was on the floor the glass was shattered into pieces on the ground around him, a slight bit of blood dripped from his mouth.

"H-Holy shit!"

Immediately they called an ambulance, barely able to explain what was happening as their voice shook and tears fell down their face.

In the mindscape, things weren't much better...

Patton's suddenly misstepping, almost tripping several times.

Logan was doing the same only falling a couple times...

Roman and Virgil had to hold them up. "What's going on?" Roman asked through a cough.

"Dunno..." Virgil replied. "Dad are you okay?" He asked.

"I'm not sure kiddo..."

Thomas was rushed to the hospital, turns out he had an incredibly bad respiratory infection...

And since it wasn't found earlier, and treated... It could be fatal.

At the moment Thomas was still unconscious in his hospital room, but he was breathing at least.

Family and Friends arrived quickly after receiving the news.

The sides were all in Patton's room.

Logan explained what was happening and that sent Virgil into an extreme panic attack.

Patton was holding him, and trying to comfort him, or at least calm him down.

After a few hours Thomas woke up...

"What happened? Where am I?"

"You're in the hospital Thomas..." Tayln said quietly.

"What..."

"You have a respiratory infection..."

"Am... Am I gonna be okay?"

"......."

Joan answered honestly as Tayln looked down and away.

"We don't know...."

Thomas' face drained of color as he tried to get a grip on reality...

Roman suddenly jolted back holding his stomach in pain "Ow!"

"Roman?" Logan asked stumbling a bit as he walked over to him

"O-Ow..." Roman fell over onto his side, still clutching his stomach tightly. Eyes shut and his entire body shaking.

Patton's eyes widened, he held the still panicking Virgil to his chest, he can't let Virgil see this... Both Patton and Logan knew what was happening....

This is what happens when a side dies....

"B-But hey! there's still a chance that you'll-" Joan tried to keep optimistic but Thomas cut them off

"Don't lie to me...... I... Need to... face reality.."

The look of fear in Roman's eyes when he faded was burned into Logan's mind, his sash was the only thing left of him

"R-Roman?" Virgil stuttered out

"Virgil... He's..."  Patton's words caught in his throat.

"W-Wait..." Virgil turned and looked behind him, noticing where Roman had been... "W-What no!! D-Does that mean I'm gonna.... I don't wanna fucking die! I don't want to-"

"I know I know kiddo..." Patton said, as Virgil clung to him again.

There was silence in the hospital room for awhile....

The only noise was Thomas' occasional cough, that just got worse and louder as time progressed.

"There's not much left to do but accept it... Right?" Thomas asked quietly, tears beginning to fall down his face.

Joan and Tayln quickly rushed and hugged him.

Virgil began to whimper in pain, he clutched his stomach tightly "o-ow..."

His breathing became more erratic, and his body trembled.

"Take a deep breath, Virgil..." Patton said, as he tried to hold back his tears. Virgil shook his head "C-Can't.... L-Love you guys... 'M... Sorry.. I never said it sooner... I love you guys so much...." Virgil sobbed.

After a bit, Thomas calmed down...

"I'm still... Scared.... But..." He took a deep breath. "I... Accept it... I accept what I can't control..."

Virgil faded, leaving behind his hoodie...

Patton clutched onto the jacket, letting himself breakdown and sob into it.

Logan walked over and without saying a word, pulled Patton into a hug.

Patton hugged him back.

"I'm feeling really tired guys..." Thomas said, his speech a bit slower and quieter.

The others didn't say anything... Unsure of what exactly they could say... They knew what would happen if Thomas went to sleep now...

He wouldn't wake up...

Logan tried to ignore the almost overwhelming pain in his stomach, and just focus on comforting Patton.

Patton only noticed once Logan began shaking as well.

"L-Logan...?" He asked. "D-Don't leave me... Please..."

"I'm sorry, Patton.."

"No! Please! Please! Please..."

Thomas smiled sadly at the others as he leaned back and rested his head on the pillow... "I love you all... Tell the fanders the same for me...."

Logan faded as his eyes shut...
Leaving his dark blue tie...

Patton quickly grabbed the tie, and Roman's sash....

Holding those and Virgil's jacket to his chest and sobbing uncontrollably.

Not long after...

A pain began growing in his stomach....

The pain was unbearable...

It slowly spread through his whole being...

Patton faded....

Right as Thomas' heart stopped, leaving the hospital room silent...

Except for the noise of the EKG flat-lining.
