Save the Girl

"Elizabeth, you ever listen to Bob Seger?"
Dean turns around to me briefly.
  "No. Never heard of him."
  "What?" Sam sounds shocked.
"Oh no no. We have to fix that."
Dean pops a cassette tape into the radio and we listen to Bob Seger the last thirty minutes of the drive. We arrive at a run down shed in the woods, where she said she'd be. I see a tiny red car parked outside the shed.

We exit the car and Dean takes me around to the trunk of the Impala while Sam enters the shed. He opens the trunk and I don't see anything at first. He then lifts what looks like a false bottom and I see all kinds of weapons.

"Woah." I am amazed. My dad never had anything like this. He just carried around whatever he needed in his truck, next to him or in the backseat.   I see all kinds of things, like a flask with a cross on it, a rosary, a shotgun, silver bullets laying astray, a machete, and an angel blade.

he reaches for a couple of needles, that appear to be full of dead man's blood. "Dead man's blood." I take the needles from him.

"Yeah, kid. someone has done their homework." He grabs the machete, and we get inside.

I see Sam talking to a brunette girl. She can't be more than 20. She looks more mature than I do, but that's not saying much. I'm only at the age of 18. Her blue eyes look up to me and she stands swiftly, leaving the conversation Sam was having with her.

"You're so much prettier than I imagined." She embraces me in a hug. It's a warm hug, like she has known me forever.

"Sorry, you probably think I'm weird. I am Sarah. My dad used to hang out with your dad and I'd tag along sometimes. He never did talk about the hunt; he just went on and on about you and how wonderful you are. I think he used the word resilient."

"I'm Elizabeth." I give her a smile. Save her. I get this flash of color, crimson red. I see vampires with their disgusting fangs out, right in my face. "Alright, so tell us everything you know about the case." As she fills us in on the case, I can't help but admire her beauty. I always looked at Lily from the coffee shop this way. There's something so special about meeting someone with a pure soul and kind heart. It's not something I ever forget. I wish that she wasn't pursuing this life. I want more for her and I've just met her.

"So yeah. The bad news is that they all hang out at this dive bar in the middle of downtown. The first time I went, they wouldn't let me in. The next time, I wore something a bit sexier and they let me in. Don't worry, I'm 21 so I was allowed to be in there. It's the only way to get in touch with one of them. I've been following them, tracking them, for weeks. They go to the bar every night at around 10PM. They stay until 4AM and then stash themselves away somewhere in the back. They would most definitely recognize me if I came back. I caught one of them feeding on someone in an alley. I chopped his head off, after a struggle, and another one saw me. I scurried off before he could find me and I hid inside a dumpster. It stunk, but it beats death by a long shot."

She finishes speaking and glances at all of us for reassurance.

"So, we are thinking their nest is somewhere in the bar." Sam concludes.

  "Yes." She responds eagerly.

"Look, I don't feel comfortable with you both coming. It's a liability. I'd feel better if you both stayed here." Dean lays down the law for us.

"No offense, but Elizabeth and I aren't exactly the most capable of defending ourselves. i could be wrong, but she's a lot smaller than her dad described. He always described her as this strong woman. I bet she is, but vampires are stronger. Plus, we'd blend in a lot better. Elizabeth is the target audience. You guys will look just like hunters to them. I'm thinking we send Liz in, and we sneak in through the back. She can at least distract a couple of them while we infiltrate the nest." Sarah has some good ideas. I can see us being good friends after this mess with my powers is over with.

"I don't like it." Sam looks to Dean for his response. "Tough." Sarah stands.

"Come on, Liz. I'll get you dressed. I doubt you have anything up to par for this bar. Oh, it's called Crimson. Very fitting. You guys look up the address and deal with our plan while I get her dressed." I like her.

She takes me by the hand and leads me to the shed's tiny bathroom. She rummages through her bag for a bit, pulling out a little red dress. She continues looking and pulls out a black leather jacket and some red lipstick. "Perfect," she exclaims.

"Come on, don't be shy." She urges me to get into the dress.

I reluctantly take my top off, followed by my pants. My mundane clothes hit the floor and she hands me the dress. I slide it onto my body and have memories of wearing a more modest version of the dress to homecoming. I slip my arms into the leather jacket, and she applies the lipstick for me. Her standing close to my face makes me realize that maybe I like girls. She takes her thumb and rubs the lipstick where she got out of the lines. "You look stunning. You can leave the converse on; they match the jacket." She takes me by the hand again and leads me out of the bathroom.

Sam and Dean look at me in a way that they never have before. It's not like they're gawking, but I can tell they don't like this plan. dean is wearing an expression that says hell no. "Let's go. You driving?" She looks to Dean. "You're not going to let anything happen to me, right?" Maybe I don't feel comfortable with the plan either. I've never killed anything in my life. Well, there was this goldfish that I forgot to feed, but that was an accident. Sam and Dean lead the way towards the door. "Hey," sam touches my shoulder gently. "You'll be alright. i was terrified on my first hunt. Once Dad let go of the reigns a little, I got the hang of it quickly. When you're in a life or death situation, you find your strength."

"Thanks, Sam." Dean drives while I sit staring at Sarah. She gives me a warm smile.

"What did yyou say your dad's name was again?" Sam asks.

  "Randy Miller."

"No way." Sam lights up and looks at Dean. He begins laughing, while recounting a story he had with Randy. I haven't yet seen him so happy or stress free. "Yeah, he's a good guy. He's working this tulpa case out in Wyoming right now. He'll be so pissed when I tell him what we're doing, but he'll be happy to know Sam and Dean had my back." The rest of the ride, she looks out the window, as if to not have a care in the world. Her shiny hair bounces with each bump.

"We exit the Impala and see the neon Crimson sign drawing us in. I pull down my dress as much as I can, trying to hide myself as much as possible.

The three of them slip away into the backside of the bar as I make my entrance. The music is loud, heavy metal. Everyone seems to be mingling with a drink in their hand. "Hey, hey." One man taps another man's shoulder. They look over to me.

People think you're attractive. I get that voice in my head.

"Let me buy you a drink." A man motions for me to sit next to him at the bar. I remember I am here for business, but I can blend in and be vigilant at the same time.

I allow him to order me a drink, signaling that I consent as I sit next to him. He's a vampire.

"How about a shot? Do you like whiskey?"

"Yeah. Whatever is fine." I try to act cool and swallow my anxiety down.

The bartender serves us up two shots each. I haven't eaten in a while, so this might hit hard.

"Two?" I ask him, staring at the dark liquid.

"Two." He holds up his shot glass and I do the same. He taps it against mine before downing it and I down mine. I make a sour face.  It tastes horrible but reminds me of the night I got drunk at the bunker. I begin to already feel flushed and warm inside.

"That's a cute dress. You want to get out of here." He appears to be staring at the veins in my neck. I have the dead man's blood stashed in my pocket if things go south before, I get to Sam and Dean.

"Yeah. Let's go." I stand up and he places a hand on my back. He leads me to the back, where I presume Sam and Dean are waiting.

He takes me to a private room. I don't see Sam or Dean anywhere. I don't see Sarah either.  When we are inside, he shouts "Dinner time." Nobody comes out or responds.

He shoves me against the velvet lined wall. The red velvet cushions my back. He moves my hair out of the way, and I try to push him off. He chomps into my neck, and I feel the blood pouring into his mouth. I reach into my pocket and stab him with the dead man's blood. I try to put pressure on my neck to stop the blood when I see Sam and Dean appear with Sarah.

Dean is holding a bloody machete, Sam is bruised in the face, and Sarah has blood spatters on her. They must have knocked out the whole nest while I was gone. that was fast. I quickly join the three as the vampire who was eating me charges at us. A couple more come at us, and I realize I don't really have any weapons.

I begin fighting for my life, just like Sam said. Surprisingly, I don't feel afraid. I just feel so angry. He rips my jacket off and slams me against a pool table. He bites into my neck in the same spot, and it hurts a hell of a lot more this time. As he's feasting on me, I feel around for a pool ball. Once I've grabbed it, I slam it into his head. While he backs away in pain, I snap a pool stick over my knee. He comes at me again, hitting me in the face. While he's against me, I stab the pool stick into him. I watch him fall over and pull the stick out of him. I see Sarah unconscious on the ground. They're feeding on her. Sam and Dean are still struggling; Sam is being choked and Dean is being hit in the face relentlessly. I see the machete on the ground and run for it. Next, I stab one of them with the pool stick and use my other hand to chop the head of the other one.

I run to Sam and chop that vampire's head off. I pass him the machete and run over to Sarah while he rescues Dean. "Sarah? Sarah, can you hear me?" I shake her, but she won't budge. She's still breathing, but I can tell she has lost a lot of blood. I desperately search around to try to find any kind of blood supply they might have lying around. I run to a fridge behind the bar and hit the motherload. I have no idea what her blood type is. O Negative, I can use O negative.

I move blood bags out of the way, searching for O negative. "Help me!" I shout to Sam and Dean.

"Elizabeth, that's not going to work. We need to get her to the hospital."

"Well, come on! Help me with her." I feel my face swelling up from the hits I took.

Dean scoops her up and we hurry to the Impala. When we get into the hospital, the staff rushes her off. She better not die. After an hour of restless waiting, we are invited to join her in her room. I practically run to her. I see her sitting up, eyes open, and she smiles at me.

"Oh, don't look so worried. I'm fine." She's so light-hearted.

"Nobody tells my dad." She slowly stands from the bed, her breaths slow and uneven. "Really." She laughs. "I'm fine. Let me get dressed."

She goes into the bathroom, and I look at Sam and Dean. "Well, I think it's fair to say I saved our asses back there. Did you see that pool stick move? Super dope. What a rush. Everyone is in one piece, and we saved the girl." I feel proud of myself.

"Yeah. It was better than expected." Dean agrees.

Sarah comes out of the bathroom, and we agree to take her back to her car at the shed she was staying in. In the car, I still can't help but to stare at her, even though she's covered in blood.

"We should get together sometime and hunt. We'd make a good team", she looks at me with her pretty blue eyes. They illuminate the night.

"Yeah. Yeah, I'd like that." After my life is situated, I'm definitely going to take her up on that offer.

We get back and I accompany her inside to help her get her things. Once we are inside, she kisses me right on the lips. "Thanks for saving my ass back there. You should keep that dress." She smiles at me.

I am blushing while staring at her. Her lips felt soft.
"Don't be so dramatic." She leans in again and I feel my heart racing.
Her lips touch mine and I feel like I'm in love.
"I hope we see each other again. You're a ball of fun." She hugs me tightly.
"Me too." I hug her back.
Leaving her was the hardest thing. I'll catch up with her again someday.
"Okay, you were pretty badass back there. I didn't know you had it in you." Dean turns around to me while we are driving back.
"Dude, did you see when I smashed a pool ball into his head? That was awesome." I agree with him enthusiastically.

"Cas should be back at the bunker. We'll discuss the next steps and get you out of here. We're tired of babysitting." I can tell he's joking with me by the tone in his voice. My neck feels sore and so does my face. What a struggle. It was kind of fun.

When we get back to the bunker, Castiel is nowhere to be found. I can't wait to get this dress off of me. 'Woah, who's the broad?" There is a man gawking at me in the main area. "Who the hell are you?" I tug at my dress, trying to hide myself. "How much are they paying you? I can pay you more."

"Pac. Hey man, how are you?" Sam embraces him in a hug.

"Elizabeth, this is Pac. We call him that because he's the best damn ghost hunter we know. Like Pac-man, except he runs towards the ghosts." Dean interjects.

"Right, well. I have to get cleaned up and take this godawful dress off. If anyone needs me or Pac wants to insinuate that I'm a hooker again, I'll be in my room."

They catch up and seem to be having fun. When I get to the bathroom, I wipe the blood off my neck. I flinch at how painful it is already. I see bruises forming already where his fangs were embedded into me. I hope this shit doesn't scar. I take off the dress and I want to keep the jacket to remind me of Sarah. I bend down into the sink, letting the cold water run for a while. I splash it on my face, the coolness soothing me. I do it again and again because it feels so nice.

When I exit the bathroom, fresh clothes on, I grab my backpack and head towards the guys. I feel my phone buzz in my pocket and check it, hoping it's Sarah. It is!

"Lizzie, I had fun with you." I smile at the text.

I reach the main area where I see the three laughing and drinking beers. I've never seen Sam and Dean so carefree and happy. It's strange because I didn't think they were even capable beyond fleeting moments.

"Am I allowed to leave just for a bit or am I on total lockdown?" I'm prepared for an argument, but maybe they have a newfound respect for me after the hunt. I mean, I know I still got my ass handed to me, but I did good where it counts.

  "Where are you going?"

"I won't go far. I have my phone. I just want to take a walk. I feel antsy, cabin fever."

"Call us if you need anything."

Just like that, I go up the staircase. Maybe I should ask them things while they're drinking more often.

On my walk, I bathe in the moonlight and serenity. The wind is blowing quite hard. First thing's first, I make a call to my dad. I sit on the concrete, wanting to be completely focused.

"Hey, Dad. I went on my first hunt. It was kind of exhilarating. I wish you were here so I could tell you all about it. I can't stop reliving it in my head because I didn't think I had it in me.  Anyway, I won't bother you much longer. I love you." I hang up the phone and stand. It's a bit chilly out here. I continue my walk. I see this beautiful set of trees towering over me, inviting me in. I walk into the darkness, with high hopes. The trees open up to this magnificent field. There's no noise but the wind and there's nothing but moonlight. I sit in the grass, running my fingers across it, feeling happy.

I smile and laugh and feel like there's no way this could be real. It's a moment of happiness that I haven't felt in a long time. I decide to share this happiness with sarah. I dial her number, wait three rings, and get nervous that she'll answer.

  "Hey Liz!"

"You know, you're the first person to ever call me that." I lay back in the grass, staring up at the moon. I miss the way she smells, like coconut and fresh cotton. Stop it, Elizabeth.

"I bet you're missing me", she's so playful.

"No, no, no. Don't jump to conclusions." I joke with her.

"It's nice to have a friend", I continue.

"I think we can be a bit more than that." We talk for hours, the time passing all too fast. I'm surprised that Sam and Dean are giving me this much freedom.

When our phone call comes to an end, she wishes me luck on the journey I am on. I shared with her everything that has been happening. She has this way about her, the feeling that I can trust her with anything. I look around at the field, planning to come here more often. I stand up, slinging my backpack over my shoulder. I begin heading back to Sam and Dean, to be a caged bird.
