(Kept you Waiting, Huh? I finally got a nice computer setup. It's pretty lit if you ask me. I just moved into my dorm. Everything is going swimmingly. This chapter is going to be a great chapter. This is actually one of my favorite chapters in the entire story, since I got the entire thing planned out already. It will have emotion, backstories and truths to be told. I love everyone who is reading this book. I appreciate all of the votes and adds and follows I get for it. It means a lot to me. I'm putting my full effort into this. I finally hit 5K reads!! What a Milestone! I couldn't have done it without all of you. I hope you're all enjoying this book. Honestly, this book was meant to be slow and subtle. I wanted to make this story an experience for the reader, being you guys. I didn't want to rush it at all. Anyways, LETS GET GOIN!)
It was the middle of the night in the abandoned city, in an abandoned building. Everyone was asleep, except for Y/N. Ruby was on watch duty above the campsite. Y/N couldn't help but think about what Ooblek told him during the Grimm fighting. Ruby had been keeping watch for a while, so Y/N decided to go up and check up on her. Zwei was with her, asleep.
"Hey, Ruby. You doing alright?" Y/N asked, calmly and quietly, trying not to wake the rest of the team.
"Y/N?? What are you doing up here? You should be getting some rest." Ruby whispered back to him.
"Well, I wanted to take a look at the stars and the moon. Plus, I wanted to check on you to see if you're alright."
"O-Oh... I'm fine. I'm just tired."
"Yeah, I bet... Everyone did a lot of fighting today. I'm super beat." Y/N said to Ruby.
"So, did he ask you?"
"What?"
"Did Ooblek ask you about your reason of becoming a huntsman?"
"Yeah..."
"What did you say? If, you don't mind me asking."
"I didn't really have a reason. I came here and Ozpin took me into this school as a means of protection and education. He then told me something I'll probably never forget..."
"What is it?"
"I have a reason... to fight for, and with my teammates."
Ruby smiled.
"I bet your parents are proud of you, Y/N."
"...." His attention then turned towards the night sky. The stars were shining brightly, illuminating the sky. There sat the mysterious, shattered moon. It was a pretty sight to see. Y/N spaced out for a while as he stared deeply into the sky. Ruby noticed this. He has been doing this a lot more recently and it is worrying her.
"Y/N... You've been staring at the sky a lot more recently. I... I want you to tell me about it. It's worrying me. Sometimes, you don't get any sleep, you don't eat well, and you're not fighting as hard as you normally do."
He reached his arm out to the moon, in hopes of grasping for something or maybe even longing for something.
"I... I..." His voice started to waver. Tears started to form in his eyes. His arm fell to his face as he wept.
"Y/N! What's wrong? Please tell me! I want to help." She said to him. She was determined.
"Ruby... I think it's time."
"Wha?"
"To tell you about my past..." Y/N composed himself a little.
"Okay... I'm here to listen to you." Ruby nodded. Y/N sighed.
"I didn't come here by a spaceship. I didn't come here from teleporting. I didn't come here because I was summoned here. I... died..."
"Wh-What?" Ruby didn't understand.
"I'll start from the beginning... Back on my planet, Earth, I was having the greatest life imaginable. I was in my second year of high school, I had plenty of friends, and I made great grades year round. I had a loving family. My Mother, Father, and Sister, I cherished more than anything in my life. I had shelter, food, water, clothing, entertainment, a means of education, friends, and most importantly, a good life. I know I'm only fifteen years old, so I didn't really have a 'life' yet. Everything was going so well in my life. Then one day, I went to bed and... and..." Y/N started to explain his backstory. He kept calm as he spoke, but his voice started to waver when he talked about his own death.
"When I woke up, no one was there. Everything was gone. I was in some infinite space of blue skies and clouds with a mirrored floor. I called for my parents... Nothing... Then, a man came. He said I was dead... Heart attack during my sleep..."
Ruby was shocked at the fact. She couldn't help but feel terrible. He became calmer again.
"He gave me some options... Three to be exact. The first option, was to be reborn as a new child on my planet. I'd lose every memory of my previous life, my family, my friends, everything. He even gave me the option of choosing a race and gender as well. My family and friends would mourn at my death, for as long as they lived. The second option, was to be sent to another world. I would remain as a fifteen year old boy, and be sent here, to Remnant..." Y/N started crying.
"He said I would keep all of the memories I had on Earth, as well as bring my own item(s) of choice with me. He then said the worst part of all... Everyone that I knew and loved would lose every trace of my existence. My mother wouldn't have the scars to prove I was born. She wouldn't know I ever existed... My friends never knew I came to school... My soul on Earth is no longer there. Every physical, mental, and emotional trace of my existence was erased..." He cried harder. Ruby couldn't believe what she was hearing. It was insane... For this to happen to him...
"I made that choice... I didn't want my friends and family to suffer. I made the sacrifice to erase myself for the greater good of the ones I care about... That's why I'm here..." Y/N was crying, but had a slight bit of anger and commitment to his voice.
"Y/N... I..."
Y/N started to collect himself.
"To think... Somewhere in the stars, is my planet. My family is having a wonderful life. My friends are having the best time of their lives at school. They're happy... No mourning... No suffering... No sadness. Sometimes, I feel like that's the way it should be... I don't really know..." Y/N was lost in thought. Ruby had a hard time processing all of what Y/N just said to her. It was a lot to take in at once.
"Y/N... I'm so sorry... To think something like would happen to you is beyond imaginable to me. It must feel horrible for you to think about it every day. I couldn't imagine how I'd feel." Ruby said.
"Ruby, remember what I said back during my first time training with Grimm?"
"Yeah?"
"I meant every word... Thank you... For being there for me. Thank you for being nice to me and treating me like I was a normal person, not some freak. It meant a lot to me for you to become my friend, along with the rest of the team. I was so happy to not be alone anymore..." Y/N said. He still had tears in his eyes as he looked at Ruby. He smiled. Her silver eyes reflected the shattered moon. He then realized something... Something important... At that moment... He liked her...
He wiped his tears away.
"That's really about it... till I came into the initiation."
"Y/N, can you keep a promise?"
"Yes.."
"Then promise to tell me if anything is wrong... If anything is the matter. If there are any problems that you're dealing with..."
"I promise..."
"Good." She smiled and yawned. She looked really tired. Y/N got up and went back down to grab a blanket. He went back up to Ruby and sat beside her. He spread the blanket over him and Ruby. She blushed.
"What are you doing?" She asked. She was confused and a bit embarrassed.
"You need some sleep, Ruby. I'll keep watch. You rest."
"You sure?"
"Yeah."
"Alright." Ruby said, closing her eyes. Y/N leaned her head on his shoulder. She slept. Y/N smiled as he slowly drifted to sleep.
Soon, Zwei woke up causing Ruby to wake up. She saw that she was sleeping on Y/N's shoulder. She blushed, but smiled a bit. Zwei started to run off. She chased him. Y/N continued to sleep. After a while, Y/N woke up to Zwei's barking.
"What is it, Zwei?" He asked, still half asleep. It was currently about 6 in the morning. Everyone else was still asleep. Zwei held Ruby's scythe in his mouth.
"Oh no..." He said, knowing something bad must have happened to Ruby.
"Guys! Wake up! Ruby may be in trouble!"
Everyone quickly woke up and got ready. Zwei led the way to a giant hole in the ground.
"Don't worry, Ruby. We're coming."
