33. Papa
I was still there. After the tattoo process had been done. "All done. Not so bad, was it? See? There's nothing to be afraid of. Is there, Y/n? Why don't you take a seat?" He said and it was all distorted I ran into the hall. Freezing when I saw the blood and the bodies. I heard screaming on the distance and I kept running. I saw the door was a boarded and started pulling the planks of.
"No! Why? Why." I said as I pulled them off.
"Y/n." I heard Vecna say and I turned around. There he was. "What are you doing? It not time for you to leave." He said and I started pulling the planks again. Why was there so many. "Not that you've seen where I've been...I would like very much to show you where I am going." He said and I pulled the last plank off. There was Brenner again. But it wasn't him. "Take a seat, Y/n." He said and the lights went off. It was dark. When the lights went on again. I was on a sit. Vines wrapping around me. There was point in struggling because I'd never get loose. Vecna then approached me. Once he was in front of me he looked at me. I was petrified. "I...want you to tell Eleven. I want you to tell her everything you see." He said and he put his hand up and I saw everything.
"No! No! Stop!" I shouted as I could see the destruction that was going to be caused on Hawkins.
"Tell her..." He said to me. I couldn't move anything.
"No!" I screamed out again. I wanted this over.
"...everything." He said and the rest played.
"No!" I shouted and I was back again. In the trailer with Steve. I lost my footing.
"Hey, whoa, whoa, whoa." Steve said as he caught me and cradled me on the ground. I started to cry, that was too much. "It's okay. It's okay. It's okay. It's okay. I'm here. I'm right here." He said and I looked at him. He was there. This wasn't something that Vecna created. I was trying to process everything but I couldn't.
"Steve, your here." I said to him and he ran his hand through my hair.
"I'm right here. I'm not leaving you." He said to me and I knew that I'd have to tell the others. But how. How can I say that I saw everything from Vecna's beginning to the destruction of Hawkins. Once we made it up to the trailer I started to tell them what happened.
"He showed me things that'll will happen soon. It was the most horrific things. I saw a dark cloud overcasting the whole of Hawkins. Downtown was on fire. Dead soldiers. And this...giant creature with...a gaping mouth. And this creature, it wasn't even alone. There were so many monsters there. A whole army of them. And they were all coming here, to Hawkins. Into our neighborhoods. Our homes. And then...he showed me my parents. Steve. Hunter. And they...they were all..." I said and that's when I lost it. They were all gone. Dead. I looked at Hunter and then at Steve.
"Okay, but...he's just trying to scare you, Y/n. Right? I mean...I mean, it's not real." Steve said and I looked at him. Shaking my head.
"Not yet it's not. But there...there was something else. He showed me all the gates. Four gates. Spreading everywhere across Hawkins. And these gates, they looked like the one outside of Eddie's trailer, but...they never stopped growing. And this wasn't the Upside Down version of Hawkins. This was our Hawkins. The one we live in. Our home." I said and Hunter came over to me. Hugging me.
"Four chimes. Vecna's clock. It always chimes four times. Four exactly." Max said and I looked at her. This was where I'd admit this.
"I heard the chimes too." I said and that's when I saw Max shake her head.
"He's been telling us his plan this whole time." Max said to us all.
"Four kills. Four gates. End of the world." Lucas said and this was why he was taking people out so quickly.
"If that's true...he's only one kill away." Dustin said and that was bringing much hope to any of us.
"Oh Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ." Eddie said putting his head in his hands.
"Try 'Em again. Try 'em again." Steve said to Max and she started calling the Byers again.
"Anything?" Dustin asked her.
"No." She said.
"Not again." Hunter got out. We needed them.
"Rang a few times, then went to busy signal." Max said and Steve looked at her.
"Maybe you punched it wrong. Try again." He said to her and I don't think anything would work.
"I didn't punch it in wrong." Max said to us and I knew she didn't.
"Well, I don't know." Steve said and this wasn't too good at all.
"I think she knows how to use a phone." Dustin said to Steve, they were always arguing.
"I'm just saying she could've typed it in wrong." Steve said and she tried it again before putting it back.
"Same shit." Max said. This wasn't good at all.
"How is that possible?" Lucas asked and Dustin looked at him.
"Joyce has this telemarketer job. Always on the phone." Dustin said and she couldn't be busy for that long.
"Yeah, but this phone's been busy for, what, three days now? That's not Joyce. Now way. Something's wrong." Max said and I looked at her.
"Hopefully nothing serious is happening over there." Hunter said and Vecna wasn't there hopefully.
"She's right. It can't be just coincidence. It can't be. Whatever's happening in Lenora is connected to all of this. I'm sure of it. But Vecna can't hurt them. Not if he's dead. We have to go back in there. Because to the Upside Down." Nancy said as she looked at all of us. But that was too risky.
"Whoa, no, no, no. What?" Steve asked as he looked at all of us.
"Nope." Eddie got out.
"Let's think this through." Steve said as he got up.
"This is a recipe for disaster." I said as I looked at them standing up.
"What is there to think through?" Nancy asked Steve and there was a lot.
"We barely made it out of there." Steve said. We had the injuries to prove it.
"Yeah, because we weren't prepared. But this time, we will be. We'll get weapons and protection. We'll go through the gate, we'll find his lair, and we'll kill him." Nancy said to him and what if it didn't end up like that.
"Or he'll kill us. The only reason Y/n survived is because he wanted her to. He's not scared of us." Steve said and he was right. He wanted me to see everything. Not be a victim.
"And for good reason. We were wrong about Vecna. Henry. One. Sorry, what are we calling him now?" Robin said and she looked at us all.
"One." Lucas and Dustin answered.
"Vecna." Erica and Hunter answered.
"Henry." Nancy and I answered.
"Right. We've learned something new about Vecna/Henry/One. He's a number like Eleven, only a sick, evil, male, child-murdering version of her with really bad skin. But my...my point is, he's super powerful. He could turn us inside out with a snap of his fingers. It's not a fair fight." Robin said to us and maybe we could fight dirty.
"Then why fight fair? You're right. He's like Eleven. But that gives us an upper hand. We know Eleven's strengths. And weaknesses." Dustin said and I couldn't even name a weakness that El had.
"Weaknesses?" Erica asked him.
"When El remote-travels, she goes into this sort of trance-like state. I bet the same is true for Vecna." Dustin said and that would explain a few things.
"That would explain when he was doing in that attic." Lucas said to us all.
"Exactly. When he attacks his next victim, I'll bet you he's back in that attic, physical body defenseless." Dustin said but that didn't stop the other problem.
"Defenseless? What about the army of bats?" Steve asked as he gestured to his neck.
"True. We'll have to find a way past them. Distract them somehow." Dustin said and there was no plan at all.
"And, uh, how do we do that, exactly?" Eddie asked him. Hopefully Dustin would have thought of something.
"No idea. But once they're gone, he doesn't stand a chance. It'll be like slaying sleeping Dracula in his coffin." Dustin said to us and that wasn't sounding like such a bad idea.
"That all sounds good in theory, but there's no pattern to Vecna's killings. Not one that I can decipher. We don't know when he's going to attack next. Don't even know who he's going to attack." Robin said and that was true but at the same time we did. Max was his next target.
"Yeah, we do. I can still feel him. I'm still marked. Cursed. I ditch Kate Bush, I draw his focus back to me." Max said and we couldn't have her do that.
"Max. You can't. He'll kill you." Lucas said to her but maybe she'd be ok.
"I survived before. I can survive again. I just need to keep him busy long enough so that you guys can get into that attic. Then you can chop his head off. Stab him in the heart. Blow him up with some explosive Dustin cooks up. I honestly don't care how you put this asshole in his grave. Just...whatever it is...whatever you do...try not to miss." She said to us and we wouldn't. I looked at her. She was risking everything just so we could kill him. We then decided on our plan of action.
"Check this out. The War Zone. I've been there once. It's huge. They got everything you need for, uh...well, killing things, basically." Eddie said to us and this was sounding like a good eye.
"You think fake Rambo has enough guns there? Is that a grenade? I mean, how is any of this legal?" Robin us asked and we should glad it was legal.
"Well, lucky for us it is, so...this...this place is just far enough outside of Hawkins. As long as we steer clear of main roads, we oughta be able to avoid cops and, uh, angry hicks." Eddie said to us well as long as we were getting there.
"If we're trying avoid angry hicks, maybe we should go to some store called the War Zone." Erica said and I looked at her.
"Although now is the time that we disagree with that." I said to her and I looked at Nancy.
"Normally, I'd agree, but we need the weapons. So I think it's worth the risk." Nancy said to us and I looked at Steve. We all had to be in agreement.
"Me too." Lucas said to us and I was glad about that.
"But is it worth the time? It'll take all day to bike there and back." Dustin said and we wouldn't be biking. No, we'd be doing something else.
"Who said anything about bikes?" Eddie asked and I had to agree with him.
"You got some car we don't know about?" Steve asked him and Eddie stood up.
"It's not exactly a car, Steve. And it's not exactly mine, but, uh...it'll do. Hey, Red, uh, you got a ski mask or a bandanna, something like that?" He asked her and she had a Michael Myers mask. Eddie put it on and we ran around the park. All the way to a motor home. We then got in. I was third in behind Steve. As we all climbed in through the window Eddie went over to the drivers side. I sat in the passenger seat. Steve standing behind Eddie.
"Where'd you learn how to do this?" Steve asked Eddie who was hot wiring the car.
"Well, when the other dads were teaching their kids how to fish or play ball. My old man was teaching me how to hot-wire. Now, I swore to myself I wouldn't wind up like he did, but now I'm wanted for murder, and soon, grand theft auto. So, uh, I'm really living up to that Munson name." Eddie said and that's when I saw Robin appear.
"Eddie, I'm not sure I love the idea of you driving." Robin said to him.
"Don't take that to offense." I said to Eddie and I saw him look at Steve.
"Oh, I'm just starting this sucker. Harrington's got her. Don't yam big boy?" Eddie said and we all looked at each other confusedly. The engine then started and the music blasted.
"Hey! Open this door!" A woman said as she banged on the passenger window.
"Hey!" The guy shouted. She then tried the door.
"They locked the door!" She shouted.
"Hey! Go! It's just a car. Everybody, hang on to something!" Steve shouted and I looked at him.
"You got this." I said to him, and I looked ahead.
"Drive, Steve! Drive." Dustin shouted at him and everyone started shouting.
"Hold on! Hold on!" Steve shouted as he turned a corner. I grabbed the seatbelt. Strapping myself in. We then continued on our journey.
"How is everything?" I asked Steve as I looked at him with a smile.
"Not half bad. Considering that this is a...house." He said and I smiled. "Yeah, it's...it's silly, but I...I've actually...I always had this dream that I'd have this really...really big family. I'm talking, like, uh, a full brood of Harringtons. Like, five, six kids." Steve said and I looked at them.
"Six kids?" I asked him in shock.
"Yeah. Six little nuggets. Three girls, three boys. And...and every summer, I figured all of us Harringtons, we would pack into something like this and...just see the country. You know, the Rockies, Grand Canyon, maybe Yellowstone. End up in some beachside town in California. Spend a week parked in the sand. Learn how to surf or something." Steve said and I looked at him.
"That sounds perfect." I said to him and he looked at me.
"Yeah?" He asked me with a smile.
"Yeah." I said back with a smile. "I mean, the six-kids seems like a lot of work but everything else. Sounds perfect." I said to him with a smile.
"If only I had some practice." He said as he looked at everyone in the back.
"That's fair. Very fair." I said to him and I looked at him with a smile. When we arrived at War Zone we all headed into the store. I mean Dustin, Lucas and Eddie stayed behind but the rest of us did.
"So much for avoiding angry hicks." Robin said as we saw the people in the store.
"Let's be...fast." Nancy said to us.
"Agreed." I said to her with a nod.
"Yep." Robin said to her.
"Definitely." Erica said and we all walked around the store. Hunter and I were together.
"How many of these do you think we need?" Hunter asked and he stopped me. I looked at the shelf.
"All of them." I said and I knocked all of them into the basket. We need all the ammunition we could get. I'd got the gun already so I didn't need to return to the counter.
"Wait. Shit. Basketball team." Hunter said to me and I looked at him. We managed to get our stuff then went straight to the motorhome.
"What happened?" Lucas asked as we started piling in.
"Gotta go." Steve said he had a new shirt and new jacket. I'll probably steal that jacket let's face it.
"Your old friends are here." Erica said as she got in next.
"And they aren't here for basketballs." Hunter said as he got in.
"Shit!" Lucas got out as the rest of us got in. I then went back to the front again.
"Let's go. Let's go!" Dustin shouted at Steve.
"I'm going! I'm going! Sit down!" Steve shouted and he sped off. Hopefully they didn't see us. Steve then drove us to a field. Hunter went over to Dustin and Eddie. They were working together. I got a few bottles lined up and started target practicing.
"Y/n, your kinda scaring me with how good your aim is." Robin said and I went over to her and Steve.
"Well, some dads take their daughters to the theater but mine took me target practicing." I said to them and they looked at me.
"Well at least he taught you how to protect yourself." Steve said to me and Hunter came over.
"Can you teach me some target practice?" He asked me and I looked at him with a smile.
"Of course." I said to him and we went over to practice area. I then handed it to him.
"What do I focus on?" He asked me as he looked around.
"Focus on the target. Think of it as a hoop and the bullet you fire will be ball. When it feels right, just pull the trigger." I said to him and I could see his focus. He then pulled the trigger. Smashing a bottle.
"I did it. Y/n, I did it." He said to me and I smiled at him.
"You did, I'm proud of you." I said to him and we started more practice. Once we were prepared we started on our way. I wasn't excited about this. We all sat in silence. I couldn't bring myself to look at Steve or anyone. This could be the last time we saw them. We dropped Erica, Lucas and Max off at the Creel house then kept going to the gate at the trailer park. This was it. The biggest battle of all time.
