The sound of my book, 'Ninjas of Love', falling from my hands and landing on the wooden floor woke me as I started to drift off to sleep. I had been reading for hours, caught up in the intensity of the story. It was rare that I would fall asleep while reading this particular story but I had stayed awake too long to keep my eyes open any longer.

I yawned as I leaned over the side of my bed and picked up my book. I set it softly on the dresser beside Yang and mine's bunk bed. My friends were all asleep. Had been for hours! I hoped I hadn't woken any of them when I dropped my book.

After blowing out my candle I snuggled into my pillow and pulled my covers up over my shoulder. I smiled softly at the warmth and comfort. It wasn't long until I fell into the sweet honey dew of slumber.

I was then transported to a time and place that struck me as familiar. I couldn't quite place the scene but as the dream progressed it became obvious.

"Kill them!" My old partner, Adam, screamed at me.

"N-no!" I yelled over the pleas for mercy that came from the innocent human children in between Adam and I.

"AAAHHH!!!" Adam growled! He pounced in front of me and stood with his face close to mine. I couldn't see his eyes, but I knew he was furious!

"Do it! Are you weak!? Are you sympathetic to their kind? I promise you they won't return the favor." He tried to persuade me.

My heart was pounding out of my chest. There was no telling how he would react to what I was about to say. But I couldn't continue this mindless killing! I closed my eyes and turned my face away.

"I won't do your dirty work." I whispered. Adam's lips curled in anger. He took a swing at me with his weapon. I quickly made a carbon copy of myself to take the blow, and escaped! I ran and ran. But as I looked back over my shoulder Adam seemed to get closer! My feet seemed to forget how to run! I pushed myself to go faster, but I couldn't!

That is when the impossible happened! I tripped and fell flat on my face. The wind was knocked out of me. As I tried to catch my breath and run I felt a hand grab me hard on the forearm.

"You're not going anywhere!" Adam yelled as he pushed me to the ground and straddled me. I began to panic and cry as his strong hands wrapped around my neck. He was strangling me! And even though I knew it was only a dream I still felt fear for my life.

I shot up and panted as I clutched my own throat. The panic began to die as my brain realized I was safe and out of Adam's grasp.

"It was just a dream..." I whispered.

When I finally calmed myself I looked around to see if I'd disturbed my team mates. None of them stirred so I assumed they were all still asleep.

Clank!

My head flew around to see what the noise had been. After the creepy dream i'd had, the noise struck fear back into me.

CLANK!

The noise sounded again. It sounded a bit louder this time but it might have been my imagination. It made my heart leap inside my chest though!

I searched the room with my eyes to find the source of the noise.

Clank!

My head swung to the right. My fear was eased a bit as I saw that the noise was made by Zwei. He was rummaging through the cans of food Yang and Ruby's father had sent. I left out a breath of relief. But I still felt as if my heart was going to explode. I didn't think I could stay by myself. The darkness like Adam's presence encompassed me. Smothering, and strangling me.

I made a resolve to try and sleep up top with Yang. I hoped the presence of another person would calm my nerves. I silently stood up on my bed and peered over the edge. Yang was laid out with her arms above her head and a restful look on her face.

She wouldn't mind!

I jumped up and laid down facing away from my friend. I pulled her warm cover up over my head. Maybe I wouldn't be seen. A silly thought, I know!

I was just getting comfortable when Yang rolled up close to me. I paid it no mind until her slender hand reached up and rubbed the space between my cat ears. I looked up in shock. I could have sworn she was asleep. When I peeked up Yang was grinning down at me with one eye open.

"I had a night mare." I said softly, hoping she wouldn't be angry.

"Aww..." She chuckled. "I'll protect the little kitty from the big bad monsters!" Yang joked before she closed her eyes and kissed my forehead. I blushed as my friend draped her arm over me, holding me from behind. I felt safe in her arms. With no more nightmares and no foraging dogs to disrupt us we slept soundly through the night.
