Insecurity (Bumbleby)

"Where do you get your hair extensions...it might be hard for you since you're so top-heavy...you're actually kinda pretty when you're angry...I wasn't saying you should go on a diet, I was saying you really need to go on a diet...You're fat...easy...annoying..."

Long after the fight was over Yang was still thinking about the hurtful things her opponent had said. Her and Wiess had won the fight but Neon Kat's words still remained. They bounced around within Yang's mind. Each blow felt like a stab wound to her self esteem. They hurt worse to her than any physical pain she'd ever felt.

Yang had always been sensitive. She acted tough and she was, but her heart was a fragile thing. Her mother's absence had left an opening inside of it that allowed hurt to creep in. Growing up she used to cry to her father over the mean things the kids at school used to say to her. It killed her to be belittled, berated, or criticized in any way.

She learned early that people thrive on your weaknesses. And to show a bully how much their words hurt was a weakness. Confidence was key. Yang decided that even on the days she felt like disappearing she would make sure others KNEW she was confident in herself. And it worked. The bullying stopped. For a time.

It worked so well, even she began to believe it. She was a confident woman and no one's mere words could hurt her. That is until Neon Kat. She seemed to know exactly what to say. As if she was reading Yang's thoughts to know exactly where her weak spots were. She'd always had a problem with her weight. She was by no means overweight. She was curvy and clothes never seemed to fit right. As soon as the words top-heavy, diet, and fat entered her ears she felt her heart drop. She knew Neon Kat was just trying to get into her head, but she couldn't stop her brain from agreeing.

You hear that? That's what you are. You're joking if you think any different. You're fat and you're ugly. Just accept it. A whisper that seemed outside of herself filled her head.

"NO!" Yang yelled as she threw a pillow in anger at the door slowly creaking open. Yang fell back onto her bed.

"Yang?" Blake's small voice asked as she tentatively walked in.

"Sorry for the pillow..." Yang sighed.

"It's alright." Blake walked up beside Yang's bunk, resting her chin on the side of the mattress. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing." Yang smiled.

Blake said nothing, she only stared at Yang with knowing eyes.

"Oh come on!" Yang threw her hands in the air. "I can't have a bad day?"

Blake pulled herself onto Yang's bed, sitting on the edge.

"Of course you can. But you were fine before the fight. What happened?"

Yang let her smile fade. She looked away from her partner.

"Fine. You don't have to tell me. Wiess told me what that...bitch said to you." Blake said with clenched fists.

Yang was surprised. She hadn't realized Wiess had heard.

"Baby..." Blake said with tears in her eyes as Yang wrapped her arms around Blake's waist. Yang buried her face into Blake's back. The faunus stroked her girlfriend's blonde curls as she sobbed.

"Was she right?" Yang asked.

"What? No! Of course not!" Blake motioned for Yang to sit up and pulled her into a tight hug.

"Yang you are perfect. She was just trying to get in your head. I love you and everything about you."

"I love you too." Yang smiled genuinely and pulled out of the hug to kiss Blake's soft lips. After pretending for so long it felt amazing to smile an actual smile. Blake Belladonna was the only person who could draw true happiness out of her. What on earth would she do without her?
