A fight till the death is what they had to do. Each could hear their breathing growing rapid, their heart pounding inside their chest as if asking to be set free like a bird from it's cage, and their blood rushing through their head.

Neither wanted to fight, yet neither wanted too live. If they were too just fight more of their classmates, what was the point in continuing on?

Nikki raised her gun, pointing it directly at Derek. This caused Derek's eyes to widen, he didn't expect this turn of events. Yet, he would gladly give his life for the safety of Nikki's. That's what he had told her when they were children, and Derek wasn't one to go back on his words.

So when Derek closed his eyes and the sound of the gun went off, he had expected himself too feel some sort of pain, instead he felt nothing. He hadn't been hit at all.

Instead, he was now looking at the dead body of Nikki Griffin who had just committed suicide to let her best friend live.
