A Walk in the Past

Went back to our favourite place today

The beginning of May was on display

Blossoms and tulips paraded their wares

Birds and squirrels flitted without cares

So serene is this place, you can feel the trees breathe

The impossible silence defies you to leave

Other visitors greeting with quiet, polite smiles

All content as nature's environment beguiles

Many benches with plaques, some sport a small bouquet

Left over tributes from Mother's Day

I wander the brick paths, past freshly turned earth

Where shy shoots are peeping, emerging from birth

In a blending of shades, the vast lake far below

Reflects the sun in a glittering show

And on the horizon, tiny sails catch the eye

Like markers holding space twixt the water and sky

I sat and reminisced of past, fond memories

Closed my eyes and exulted in the wind's gentle tease

No intrusion from the world's daily din

Here I can encounter the world within

A repository of moments, in fragments of time

A recollection of enjoying those fragments sublime

And savouring all those oft shared pleasures

It's here I remember what the heart still treasures
