#20

"And so your honor, you can see that the Monkees were completely innocent." Rudy reasoned with the judge.

"But they did in fact kidnap the child." She sighed.

"Only because they felt forced to do so for the child's safty." Rudy pleaded. The Monkees had convinced their manager to help them and act as their lawyer. He was of course mad that they had lied to him, but he couldn't let them go down. He knew these boys, and he was sure they hadn't ment to get in trouble with the law. Rudy had retrieved the drawings made by Lani and the carpet bag from the hotel garbage bin, to use as evidence.

"I believe I've heard enough." The judge sighed. "I want to speak to the child alone." SHe stepped down and walked out of the room.

Rudy walked over to his clients.

"Hey you did good man!" Davy encouraged him.

"Yeah thanks." Micky said uncovincingly.

"I'm glad Mike isn't here to see this." Rudy said. "He'd never forgive me for doing so poorly."

Mike had not joined the other boys in court. He was still in the hospital. The bullet was shot at such close range that it penitrated his foot and lodged in his heel. Surgery was needed to remove it. Micky had been allowed to visit him the day before the trial. Mike complained the whole visit that he couldn't move his foot. The doctor had informed Micky that Mike's tendon had been severed. The foot was useless and had to be amputated.

Mike had not been told. He would recieve a prosthtetic foot sometime the next week.

Micky couldn't help but envy his friend. He didn't have to whitness Lani slipping from their grasp. He didn't even care that he'd have a criminal record, or that he'd spend time in jail. He didn't give a crap about that anymore! A few months or weeks ago he would have, but he didn't today. He only cared about Lani's safety!

When the judge returned she wasted no time.

"I pronounce the Monkees not guilty! I have found that 'Mr. Doris' Is not Mr Doris at all. His name is Frasier Gennings. Frasier Gennings I sentence you to life in prison for two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder." She brought her gavel down hard. Micky stared wide-eyed. He couldn't believe that they had won. Their case had been very weak. But somehow the judge had seen their innocence.

Peter and Davy jumped up and down cheering. They thanked Rudy. Micky sat in his seat and cried tears of joy. He thanked his Lord that they had won, that He had heard Micky's prayers. He didn't know how or why but God had seen fit that Lani would seen another day in spite of the unsurmountable odds.

The Lord is good! Micky thought to himself. The Lord is good!

{This chapter was really short, but who cares!?}
