One Step Forward (Lizzy X Yusei)

Lizzy Belle-Wood hummed along the sides of the wall in her family's game room, holding sheets of paper that strung music notes. She fingered through the few shelves of games and the television, and then spun herself around to playfully figure out the new music that she must play for an upcoming violin competition. Aside from Duel Monsters, her violin was Lizzy's passionate instrument that she plays for dozens of people. It was her demeanor to reach out to other people, and playing the violin was one of her ways of doing just that. However, she likes to play music in her own way. It gave her an unprecedented presence on stage, something that people wouldn't expect. Lizzy loved every minute of it. But in order to do that, she must immerse herself into the music, memorizing the notes by heart for her to put her own spin on the music. That's exactly what she was doing now, but she couldn't memorize the notes yet. Her heart was somewhere else and she was trying to keep the subject off of her mind ever since that phone call. However, it kept persisting more and more, making her hum the music aloud to keep what bothered her away as far as possible. At that moment, it seemed to be working until the front doorbell rang. It shocked the girl in the upstairs room. "Well, who could that be?" she asked herself, putting the sheet music on the couch and racing to the stairs. After rushing down the stairs, and skipping a few steps to get to the ground floor faster, the teenaged girl got to the front door and swung it open. A boy was on the other side of the door, with jet black hair that had yellow highlights and sapphire eyes. Lizzy was a bit surprised that he was at the door but didn't reveal it, giving him an angry pout instead. "You didn't answer my calls," she said bluntly.

"Sorry Lizzy," the boy answered. "I didn't have a chance to call back."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"By the time I would've called you, the problem would've been solved." Lizzy furrowed her eyebrows and asked,

"Soooooooooooooooo, you didn't need my help after all?"

"No." That was when Lizzy dropped to the floor dramatically and groaned,

"Dang it, Yusei! You made me worry for nothing! You know how hard it is to worry and memorize sheet music?"

"You don't have to worry about me," Yusei said, coming into the house and staring down at Lizzy. He had grown accustomed to her spontaneous nature.

"Well, it's difficult not to, ok?!" He shook his head with a small smile and helped the girl up from the ground. "So if everything is fine now, why did you come here to the house?" she asked, crossing her arms.

"I had to make sure that you were okay," Yusei said bluntly. "Besides, you weren't answering your phone either." Lizzy was shocked about what he said last, but then she remembered that she left her phone in her bedroom upstairs before venturing off to the game room. She sighed softly and replied,

"I'm sorry, I was busy practicing the sheet music."

"What were you practicing this time?" The girl gave him a large grin and exclaimed,

"Come upstairs and see for yourself!" Lizzy ran up the staircase with Yusei following behind her. The two got to the game room and the girl skipped over to where she put the music sheets and plopped down on the couch. "Come, come!" The boy sat next to the girl and she passed the sheets on his lap.

"Beethoven?" Yusei concluded quietly, reading the title of the masterpiece.

"Uh-huh!" Lizzy exclaimed, looking at him with wide eyes. "It's a little difficult to master but I'm ready for any challenge!" She raised her fist to the air and yelled, "I'm going to rock that stage like there's no tomorrow!" Her friend only nodded, still staring at the papers. Lizzy tilted her head at him, seeing that there may be something wrong. His face had softened quite a bit in the duration he's been in the house. Even his eyes were misty, as if he drifted away from the outside world. The girl took a glance at what's around her. No one else was in the room, and the house's silence made Lizzy uneasy. She wanted to help Yusei, but how could she do it, if she has to ask something that seemed tense? She thought for only a moment before popping the question. "Are you okay, Yusei?" Lizzy asked softly, putting her hand on top of the sheet music that was on his lap. Yusei blinked and turned to her. They were mere inches from each other. Lizzy repeated her question and the boy turned away immediately.

"I'm fine," he whispered softly. Lizzy gritted her teeth and felt a sharp pang in her heart. Oh, what a lie that was! Before she blurted out the words that came to mind, she thought again for a second. What if he breaks down, because of her possibly harsh words? What could happen? Lizzy bit her lip at the possible consequences, desperately not wanting to hurt him. After thinking of what to do for many minutes, Lizzy stood up from the couch and walked to the center of the room. She started to move a few of the bean bags to another side of the room, carefully considering how much space was in the game room. Yusei was puzzled as to what she was doing. He didn't say anything, but just watched her. After Lizzy moved a table to the side of the room where the bean bags were at, she rubbed her hands together and stated,

"Perfect! Now it's ready."

"What's ready?" Yusei questioned with his arms crossed. Lizzy turned to her friend and placed her right pointer finger lightly on her lips.

"Do you want to know?" the girl asked with a playful smile. Yusei's eyes widen a little, shocked that she didn't give him a direct answer. He nodded quickly and Lizzy giggled softly. "Are you sure~?"

"Yes!" the boy exclaimed, slightly agitated. "What do you want with me?!" Lizzy winced softly, glancing at her friend's clenched fists. This was a response that she didn't expect from her usually calm friend. But she stood steadfast and held out the palm of her right hand towards him. With a soft smile, she exclaimed,

"Dance with me!" That was when the girl was sure that her friend changed his composure. The fists were gone and the look on his face was a mixture of surprise and...fear? Lizzy couldn't distinguish what it was that she saw on Yusei's face. However, she kept her hand outstretched, patiently waiting for him.

"I don't dance, Lizzy," Yusei stated, looking away from her.

"You don't?" the girl said with a raise of her eyebrow. He shook his head in response, making Lizzy grit her teeth and say bluntly, "It's not that you don't dance, or even can't. It's that you won't do it! I don't understand why, but you have to at least try. You won't know unless you give it a try." She stared intensely at her friend, who was taken aback by what she proclaimed to him. "Come," Lizzy said softly. "It won't be that bad, I promise......please?" Yusei was still not looking at her but he bit his lip. He finally stood up and stared at her, now looking like his calm self again.

"If you say that it isn't that bad..." the boy started.

"Uh-huh!" Yusei in turn took a soft breath and walked over to Lizzy, taking the outstretched hand that the girl had held out. "Okay, now I need the other hand!" The boy gave Lizzy his other hand, now holding onto both of her hands.

"Now what?" Yusei asked quietly.

"How coordinated are you?" Lizzy questioned quickly.

"I'm pretty coordinated."

"Great! Then just follow my feet movements and you'll be fine." So the girl started stepping forward, backward, left, and right. Her friend tried to follow along with Lizzy's feet and keep up with her fast pace. However, he stumbled as his foot movement wasn't in sync with Lizzy's movement, making him feel uncomfortably clumsy. Lizzy took notice of this and began to step slower for Yusei, looking at his footsteps in accordance to her steps. "Hey, you're getting good at this!" Lizzy complimented, seeing that his footing was in sync with her own.

"I'm surprised," Yusei admitted, glancing at his feet. "I didn't think I would be good at this."

"Well, sometimes you have to take that step forward, right?" The boy gasped softly and stared up at Lizzy, who displayed a cheeky grin to him. In an instant, he stopped moving and asked,

"Why are we doing this?"

"I, uh, thought that you needed some time to relax," the girl responded, averting his gaze. "I've always known that dancing can be relaxing, and can help unfocus from other things."

"That's what you were trying to do?"

"Uh-huh."

"For me?" Lizzy briefly looked around the room and said,

"I don't see anyone else in the house, so I'm pretty sure it's for you." She let go of Yusei's hand. "Look, I can tell that whatever happened earlier today was probably big. I'm just trying to cheer you up, ok? Please let me do at least that much."

"But-"

"No, I don't want to hear it!" The girl grabbed her friend's shoulders and spoke in a more serious tone. "Stop being the hero for once! Let your friends help you out too. Whenever you're feeling your best or very worst, you have to let your friends in. We care way too much about you to not do anything, especially me be-because I'm right here. But that's not the point! Or did I make my point already? Did I? I'm not good at pep talks." Yusei only nodded, his hands starting to shake a bit. He bit his lower lip tight, seeming to hold back. The girl asked if he was okay but he didn't respond, just stayed fixated on her with a mix of confusion and sadness on his face. "Yusei?" Lizzy said with a gentle tone. "What's wro-" She stopped her question because of an abrupt hug from her friend, who began to sob uncontrollably on the nape of her neck. The girl didn't hug back for a minute or so because she has never seen her friend cry before, and she was the one who gave Yusei hugs, not the other way around. So it was uncomfortable for Lizzy at first to receive a hug like that. But she soon hugged her dear friend back and whispered, "There's a first for everything, huh?"

I finally got another one done. Yay! I don't know where I got this idea, but I'd thought it would be a good one. What do you guys think?

Thanks for reading, by the way! I really appreciate it! :)
