Freedom

The main part of this is exactly 1200 words XD

Also, anyone know that Tuffnut's VA also did the voice of Fred from Big Hero 6??

--------------------------------

Five months we've been stuck on this Thor-forsaken island. Probably longer.

Hiccup jumped on the boat the two had put together over the months as Toothless shoved it off the beach, getting it to glide on the water. The wrecked boats were well, wrecked, and too big for the simple pair of them to repair or navigate, so the dragon-rider duo had built their own, much more manageable boat. It had to be big enough to sustain Toothless's weight, and hold supplies for at least a week at sea. By then they should have come across SOME island that had to be better than this. And no, Hiccup has not built Toothless a new tail yet. There's no metal or decent, sustained forge on the Red Death island, and they needed fabric for more pressing matters.

"Ready bud?" Toothless rawred happily and shoved gently into the boat, freeing it from the surprisingly silky sand that was a ways out from the actual beach. Then the dragon launched himself at the side of the ship, and Hiccup grabbed his paw and miraculously pulled his friend up.

"Well, that... was exciting." Hiccup breathed in between deep breaths.

"You really need some muscle, fishbone," Toothless teased, nudging the human jokingly.

"Thank you for summing that up," Hiccup retorted, brushing off the insult. Toothless perked up at that line, before shaking it off and growling to himself in his normal dragon language.

The pair had decided on three categories of this new development of communication, and had figured out how to switch accordingly without saying everything in one language. There was of course the usual dragon tongue that only dragons could physically understand, although Hiccup had learned to figure out what Toothless was pretty much saying just as well. And then there was human, as the dragons called it, or as they called it English. Dragons can understand tones of voice and with a little work understand directly what the humans are saying after a little bit.

And then there was Dragonese. This is what Toothless had been speaking, it was sort of the middle ground of the two languages. The dragon-rider duo still didn't know HOW they gained the ability to speak this language, but they assumed that since they had both been injured their bloods must have mixed and that was the result. Hiccup was starting to figure Dragonese out, for some reason he didn't gain the instant ability like Toothless did. His favorite line so far that he had said (by accident, mind you) was "please do not bite my mother on the bottom". That one had Toothless quoting him for weeks.

"So what do we do when we get to the next island, Hiccup?" Toothless finally asked his rider, who was facing the wind at the front of the boat.

It was another perfect day, there was hardly a cloud in the bright blue sky as the island that had imprisoned most dragons for so long was finally behind them.

"Get off, see what there is to see, get any supplies we can, greet any new dragons, head back to the boat and go onto the next island, I guess"

"We're not going to go island jumping FOREVER are we?" Toothless didn't exactly like this constant rocking of the boat or the fact that they were on water without being wet.

Hiccup looked surprised the dragon would ask that. "No, of course not! We'll just keep going until we hit another island with civilization on it, or if there's none start our own." The Night Fury's eyes widened.

"Uh, Hiccup, pretty much every civiliation in this archipelago is hostile, just FYI." Hiccup snorted.

"EVERY civilization? Every town and port there is here? I find that a little hard to believe. I mean, I'm not hostile! Am I?" not it was Toothless's turn to laugh. The skinny boy was one of the least intimidating things there was in the archipelago, at least alone.

"Nah, you're just some fishbone that can't do anything without a dragon. It's no wonder we got stuck out here, all of the ladies must have been so embarrassed by you they left us to man and dragon up!" Of course that was nearly all total nonsense, both Toothless and Hiccup knew they could do things on their own, although they worked much better as a team.

"Yeah, and all the female dragons must have ditched you because you decided to hang out with such a wimp!" Hiccup agreed, laughing. Despite the fun and games, Toothless did seem more tense through the conversation. "You okay there bud?" Hiccup asked gently, wondering if he somehow offended the dragon.

"You're not that far off... you're different." Toothless mumbled something under his breath, and that was what it sounded like to the human.

Not far off? Oh geez, I didn't actually mean to- Toothless pounced and rocked the boat, catching Hiccup's sodden vest underneath his large black paws.

Hiccup saw himself in that same position as now, unable to see anything except for the terrifying Night Fury's furious eyes right before he was about to kill the skimpy boy. The beast was breathing heavily, angrily at the boy, who was pressing himself against a rock trying to get as far away as possible on instinct. Suddenly the dragon leaned back and roared and echoed warning in his face, before the unholy offspring of lightning and death itself turned and fled into the trees.

"What the- Toothless?" Hiccup screamed and jolted back in confusion. The dragon leaned back as well, the playful look being overcome by confusion and worry in his eyes.

"Hiccup? Are you okay?"

"Yeah, yeah, I think... that was weird..."

"Mind telling me, fishbone?" Hiccup chuckled at the Night Fury's light attempt at humor and calmed down. "I swear I saw..." Hiccup explained what he saw to his friend. By the time the human was done Toothless was frowning in concentration.

"Huh. What you saw, Hiccup, is how we first met, ironically."

"Really? Because you really seemed to want to bite my head off." Hiccup questioned suspiciously.

Toothless chuckled in his draconic way awkwardly. "Well, at the time you had shot me out of the sky and left me for a day or two, so I was pretty annoyed..."

"Oh..."

"Don't worry about it Hiccup. Does it look like I care? If I was still mad at you, I WOULD have bitten your head off at some point."

"Well it's good to know that my friend can still do that at a moment's notice." Hiccup said sarcastically, clearly joking again.

"Wait me? Mr. Super Awesome Night Fury? I would never!" Toothless fell backwards in feigned shock, almost capsizing their boat again.

As the hours passed, the dragon-rider duo had many more conversations like this, joking around and throwing insults before laughing it off and forgetting it ever happened. Occasionally the boat would nearly capsize from the large dragon throwing his weight around, but otherwise for a salvaged boat of scraps it held together brilliantly. As the sun set once again the pair curled around each other for warmth in the salty night, ready for their next day and adventure.

What are you talking about? The past basic all of the chapters haven't been backstory fillers.

Now we can get to the good stuff!

WAIT I just had an idea-

Viggo and Ryker, riding a Zippleback, as riders instead of the twins?

Not sure where this came from XD

But seriously, I'm now concidering it. Anyone want to see it happen or no?

Anyway auf weidersehen!

-Becca out ^-^
