Chapter 6
He lay by Fernpaws body silently. The cats of WindClan sat vigil for the fallen apprentice. His tear-streaked face was buried in Fernpaws body. He hoped Bramblenose was in the Dark Forest suffering. He thought anger rising in him. he shook his head and the other cats rose and padded away quietly. He figured it was dawn though he didn't want to move. His wounds still stung as the night before he'd refused to let Hawkwing treat them so he could go sit vigil for Fernpaw. His body shot into a painful spasm and once it'd passed, he stood on shaky legs and limped to the apprentice den pain in every step. He sat in his nest. The den felt empty without Fernpaws constant talking which he'd secretly liked. His tail flicked and the memories of him and Fernpaw all came to him. it was too painful. He struggled out the apprentice den his breath becoming more forced. Thoughts swirled in his mind. A mixture of anger, fear, sadness, and vengeance flowed through him. he tried to block out the thoughts and feelings but the only grew stronger. He heard muffled talking and worried voices, but he only quickened his pace until he couldn't walk anymore and staggered falling to the ground. He hit his head against a sharp rock and gasped in pain. Blood speckled his muzzle and was flowing from the open wound on his hindleg and forehead. He stared dazed forward as yowls echoed around him. one word slipped into his mind before he fell unconscious: death. He'd heard that word to much and it'd been too true lately... wind whipped past his ears, and he felt as though he were falling. "Robbinpaw." A voice flowed through his mind. "Robbinpaw." It repeated more clearly. Berrypaw? He thought confused. "Robbinpaw!' the voice yelled, and his head jolted upward. The scent of Berrypaw wasn't there but instead he smelled Hawkwing. "You stupid apprentice!" he scolded. "You should've let me treat you last night and none of this would've happened!" Robbinpaw felt dizzy and stretched out a paw for support as he drifted in and out of consciousness. Hawkwing placed his paw on his and it felt like a rope keeping him tethered to the world. Something flicked in his mind as though they were visions... but they weren't. He grew confused. In his mind he saw Hawkwing in front of him his paw on top of his. He shivered fiercely. In his mind he was in an unfamiliar place. He was next to a glowing rock... the moonstone! He thought. But he wondered why he was there in the vision. What made him even more confused was that when he heard Hawkwing talked the Hawkwing in the visions mouth opened too. Realization flooded through him. no... it can't be... he thought shaking his head. "Whats wrong?" Hawkwing asked. "I- I..." he struggled for words. "You what?" Hawkwing asked a confused and worried look on his face. "I can see..." he whispered. Hawkwings eyes widened. "B- but that's impossible!" he stammered. "Then StarClan is impossible." Robbinpaw challenged. "It was the moonstone." Robbinpaw murmured. "It healed me..." he stood. He felt no pain but strength. He held his head high. "Thank you Hawkwing." He told the medicine cat rubbing against him. Hawkwing purred. "Of course... let's get back now. Our clanmates will be waiting."
"They're back!" he heard the cats start to call. He stepped into camp beside Hawkwing. A cat padded up against him who he recognized as Dapperclaw. "Here I'll show you to the apprentice den." He offered kindly. Robbinpaw shook his head. "I don't need help. I know how to get there but thank you." He spoke. "But- you can't-" Dapperclaw stopped before he could say 'see'. "I know how you feel Dapperclaw. And I couldn't see." He corrected. Dapperclaw looked confused. Robbinpaw smiled. "The moonstone healed me." He said quietly to his friend. Dapperclaw stared. "I can see." Dapperclaws jaw fell. "B-but-!" Robbinpaw interrupted. "It's not impossible. Really Dapperclaw. I'm healed." Robbinpaw said no more and padded to the apprentice den leaving Dapperclaw behind, jaw open. A sadness filled him as he lay in his nest. The den felt empty without Fernpaws constant talking -which he secretly liked-. It took a little time to get used to being able to see. He thought about Berrypaw and what her reaction would be once she had found out. Robbinpaw went to sleep a million thoughts zooming around his head like prey in the forest.
Robbinpaw awoke from a dreamless night expecting to hear Fernpaws mews of hello, when all the events from the night before came flooding back to him leaving him feeling empty and defeated. He dipped his head sadly and stood on shaking legs. He quickly steadied himself and stalked out of the den. Volcanicstar leaped up onto the TallRock and called the clan together for a meeting. The cats gathered below him, Robbinpaw sitting in the back. "First, I sadly must announce that my daughter, Fernpaw is dead... she died a brave apprentice but should have been a warrior. Speaking of warriors, Robbinpaw step forward." Robbinpaws ears pricked but he stepped forward obediently. "I, Volcanicstar, leader of WindClan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. They have trained hard to learn the ways of your noble code, and I commend them to you as a warrior in their turn." He smiled proudly at Robbinpaw. "Robbinpaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and protect and defend your clan, even at the cost of your own life?" Robbinpaw lifted his head determinedly. "I do." Robbinpaw said proudly. "Then by the power of StarClan, I give you your warrior's name. Robbinpaw, from this moment on you will be known as Robbingaze. StarClan honors your courage and strength, and we welcome you as a full warrior of WindClan!" Volcanicstar stepped down and pressed his muzzle to Robbingaze's forehead. "You've been like the son I never had Robbinpa- I mean Robbingaze." Volcanicstar whispered in his ear. "And you've been like a father to me Volcanicstar." Robbingaze whispered back. Volcanicstar purred and stepped back onto the TallRock. "Robbingaze! Robbingaze!" the clan chanted. He closed his eyes wishing Fernpaw were there with him. He barely heard the rest of the meeting. "Robbingaze!" Dapperclaw called. He felt a small pang of joy hearing his new name. "Mhm?" "I'm leading a border. Would you like to come?" Dapperclaw asked. "Sure." He murmured the joy suddenly leaving him. Dapperclaw sighed. "I know this must be hard for you," he tried to reason. "But you have to stay strong. For your clanmates." If only you knew... Robbingaze thought. He stalked to the Prey-pile picking out a small vole. He gulped it down. Rainpebble, Gorsethorn and Dapperclaw were there waiting by the entrance to camp. Robbingaze rushed over. "Alright let's go!" he exclaimed eerily cheerful. He dashed out of camp, his clanmates looking confused but followed. "A-are you okay?" Dapperclaw asked worried. "Oh, I'm fine!" Robbingaze exclaimed with a forced smile. "Are you su-" he cut Dapperclaw off. "I'm fine!" Robbingaze said impatiently and padded away towards the RiverClan borders. Suddenly he saw the RiverClan patrol across the gorge and Berrypaw was with them. He felt as though there were butterflies in his stomach. She spotted him and smiled, waving her tail in hello. He pointed his tail at the sky beckoning for Berrypaw to meet him at the bridge at sunset once again. She nodded. Robbingaze smiled to himself and padded off with the rest of the patrol. He padded back into camp waiting to see Fernpaw padding over to him. He sighed. He was excited to see Berrypaw again but was still sad.
Robbingaze padded over to the twoleg bridge the sky a canvas of colors. There on the wall was Berrypaw twitching her tail impatiently. "Took you long enough." Berrypaw said with a smirk. Robbingaze dipped his head with embarrassment. "Sorry Berrypaw." She leaped down standing next to Robbingaze. "Its Berryheart now." She purred. "You got your warrior, name?" Robbingaze asked happily. She nodded. "So have I!" he exclaimed and rubbed his head along her chin. "Whats your name?" she asked. "Robbingaze." he told her. Berryheart purred. "Oh, and I almost forgot!" he exclaimed with a grin. "I can see." He said casually. Her jaw dropped. "Y-you- what?" she stammered eyes wide. Robbingaze purred pressing his flank against hers to calm her. "The moonstone healed me after the battle." He explained. "I'm sorry about the battle... I tried to stop them. I really did." She said her head dipped in shame. "My friend Fernpaw died in that battle saving me... otherwise I'd be dead right now." Berryheart turned pale. "I-I'm so sorry!" Berryheart stammered. Robbingaze felt his eyes begin to water at the subject. "It's- Its fine... it wasn't your fault..." she pushed her muzzle into Robbingaze's pelt. He ran his tail down her spine feeling tears slipping down his face. He wiped away the tears with his tail and lifted his head. "Berryheart?" he asked. She lifted her head and faced him. "Yes?" he took a breath. "I-I... would- y-you..." she looked confused. "Would you be my mate?" Robbingaze finally blurted out. Berryheart's eyes widened, and it looked like she'd stopped breathing. "Y-yes! Of course, I will!" Berryheart said and rubbed her head against his chin purring.

He curled up in hisnest in the warrior's den and fell asleep. Fernpaw was there but before hecould do anything she vanished. His face fell. Robbingaze turned his head. Awhite glow filled his sight blinding him for a moment. When he blinked his eyesopen again a gray tom was standing before him. "Hello Robbingaze. Ive beenwaiting a long time to see you again." Robbingaze narrowed his eyes. "Who areyou?" he snarled. The tom chuckled softly. His face was kind and it calmedRobbingaze for a moment but then he tensed again. "Stormclaw. Your father." Thetom said. Robbingaze watched Stormclaw dazed in awe. "M-my father...?"Stormclaw nodded. "I've missed you my dear son." He purred. "How's-" Stormclawhesitated. "Berryheart?" He finally said. "Oh..." Robbingaze whispered looking athis paws. "Your disappointed in me aren't you...?" Robbingaze asked dipping hishead sadly. "No, no! No, Robbingaze. I would never be disappointed in you.Especially for something like this..." he added. "What do you mean 'Especiallyfor something like this'?" Stormclaw looked to the side. "It's time you knowthe truth about your mother..." he whispered. Robbingaze listened. "Aloefern wasalways a good friend, and yes once I did love her. But... there was someone else...Quinn..." He whispered her name with a smile. Robbingaze's eyes widened. The namesounded slightly familiar, but he shook his head at the thought. "B-but that'snot a clan name!" He stammered. "Because she wasn't in a clan. She was arouge." Stormclaw said. "A-a rouge?! But how?" Stormclaw sighed. "I alwaystrusted Aloefern and she was a good friend to me, so she agreed to pretend tobe you and Ravenpaws mother. Quinn was love at first sight. I couldn't helpmyself... I first met her after a flood. The camp was taking refuge on the twolegbridge, but we knew it wasn't safe there for long. Then Quinn found us andshowed us a grove in which we could stay in. Cloudstar thanked her and gave hera choice. She could join the clan in one moon if she could prove to be worthyof a warrior or go back to her kittypet life. Of course, she chose warrior. Shewas with us for a moon doing all she could to earn their trust. But then... thensomething happened. She went on a patrol with our deputy Foxfang, and when shecame back, she brought Foxfangs dead body with her. She said a fox attackedthem. There was blood on her claws and there was a large cut on her cheek. Cloudstardidn't believe her since she was so new, they still didn't trust her. Cloudstarbanished her from the territory, but she had nowhere to go. She couldn't bearto go back to her twolegs and was injured. I snuck off and we found an abandonedrabbit burrow which she lived him. I came back to see her every day brining herprey, showing her hunting, and fighting techniques. Soon she told me she wasexpecting my kits and I was overjoyed. Once you and Ravenpaw were born she toldme – Even though she couldn't bear it – to take you and your brother back tothe clan and to raise you there." Stormclaw looked at me with loving sad eyes. Before Robbingaze could say anything Stormclaw disappeared. "Wait-!" He had somany questions buzzing around him. A white flash appeared in front of him, andhe closed his eyes opening to the warrior's den. Dapperclaw was laying in hisnest looking deep in thought. Robbingaze padded over to him sitting beside him."You, okay?" he asked. Dapperclaw didn't respond not even acknowledging he wasthere. "Dapperclaw...? Are you okay?" He lifted his fluffy red tail and restedit on Dapperclaws spine though it fell right through it. Realization flashed inhis eyes. "Oh-" he was still in a dream. He watched Dapperclaw carefully.Dapperclaw shook his head and got up, padding out the den to start the borderpatrols and Robbingaze followed him out. Padding from the den he saw Hawkwingtalking with Volcanicstar in the clearing. He didn't know if he shouldeavesdrop, but he was so curious... he shook his head scolding himself. No.he told himself firmly. Dapperclaw left with his patrol of Boulderfall, Hallowblossomand Featherwhisker. He followed them. They padded across the moors to the gorgeonce again. They must really be suspicious of RiverClan- he thought butthen got caught off by a more frightening thought. Did they sent me andBerryheart...? He wondered his eyes widening but he didn't stop followingthem. Boulderfall was trailing behind Dapperclaw watching the sky for somereason. They got to the gorge and Dapperclaw stepped up to the gorge lookingacross it, his eyes narrowed. That's when Robbingaze realized Boulderfalldidn't notice Dapperclaw stopped and was still walking. He bumped into him andbefore Robbingaze could react Dapperclaw slipped over the side.
((please comment ideas if you have any for the next chapter. I've already started a bit of it and will be writing more today or soon. I've already got the main plot written so I just need to write A bunch of stiff in between leading up to that. )
