°chapter eighteen
I reached over to the red marker and placed it between my teeth. I had been over these papers again and again. I hadn't found anything. Everything seemed true on the people we were choosing to sue.
There were only fifty pages of account to look at. And each of them seemed innocent. But knowing Dylan, anything could be innocent but was guilty to him. Hell, he could've planted something there.
I flicked through the papers again and a faint knock rings in my ears. I look up briefly, noticing Harvey with a frown on his face.
"Where were you?" He asks and I turn my head up, where his fingers point at the clock. It's hand was way past six. "We were supposed to be at the restaurant an hour ago... eating steak..." For a moment, he seemed disappointed, but his eyes suddenly turned soft.
I tensed a little, wondering what he was thinking. Setting my pen down, I turned to face him as he walked over to me and sat on the edge of my desk.
"I... I'm sorry Harvey. I just, wanted to finish this with Louis before I concentrated on anything else." He sighs deeply and rubs his forehead.
"Amy... I know it's hard-" Something breaks in me.
"-you don't." I snap. "You don't know what it's like to have a shitty memory, not even a fucking memory! Someone from your past, whose hurt you, whose mission is to take you down - to come back in your life... and pretend to forget it..." I push myself up from my chair and get closer to Harvey's face. "I can't just push it away Harvey! I have to hide from it, because if I don't..." There's a pause, as I wonder if I should say what I should say. But, I had let him in, there was no turning back. "I'll break... I'll break Harvey." I lean back a little and sniffle, tears about to leave my eyes. "I've been broken and-"
Harvey places his hands softly onto my shoulders and looks into my eyes.
"-and you're strong." I shake my head and Harvey grips my shoulders a little harder. "You are Amy! You're someone who doesn't want to take shit anymore. You're a good person, who doesn't deserve this." Harvey gaze drifts for a moment. "... Dylan doesn't know how much he hurt someone as great as you..."
I gasp lightly and something snaps in my head.
I lean forward and firmly press my lips onto Harvey's.
He seemed stiff at first, but the kiss seemed to grow hungrier as the moment went on. His hands glided over my hips and I admired how he touched me. It felt good.
Too good that I had to pull away.
"... Amy..." He whispered gently and pressed his forehead against mine. I closed my eyes and pulled myself away, breathing heavily - as did he.
"I know... I..."
"Hello dear Amy." We spring apart and behind Harvey stood Dylan with a big grin on his face. Running my hands through my hair, I become rigid. Harvey turned to face him and his expression turned deadly.
He was here. He was standing right in front of me and I felt paralysed.
"You!" He yelled and I quickly grab his sleeve and pull him to me. Dylan laughs and fiddles with his sunglasses that were tucked into his pocket.
"This is great. Now I can take everyone down. You." He gestures to me and I avoid his eyes. "And you." Harvey's jaw clenched as he points at him. "Louis... and even Je-"
"Who?" Stood behind him was Jessica, her arms folded and her stance dominant.
Shit, now Jessica was involved. "Answer me Dylan... If you are threatening my firm..." She stood in front of me and Harvey. "Then I think you should leave. And not come back." Jessica leans towards him and growls, "Actually. You're no longer a client for our firm. So do I need to call security to throw you out?" Harvey brushes his hand onto mine.
"This won't work Amy." I swallow, Jessica's eyes firmly still on Dylan and Harvey's on me. "Your little support system won't be here for long..." He backs out of the door and retreats to the elevators.
My body relaxed and without thinking, I storm out of my office. I was full of hurt and rage and it was waiting to burst.
"Amy!" Harvey calls out to me, but I ignore him.
"Dylan!" I shout and he turns around, a smile plastered onto his face. Still, I kept my distance, remembering what he tried to do to me that night. "Stay away. And I fucking mean it." He tilts his head. "You won't win."
"I love it when you talk dirty to me." He lifts his hand towards my face and I slap him on his cheek.
Hard. So hard it leaves a bright red mark. "You bi-" He starts to scream, but he notices he has an audience. "See you soon Amy..." He says quietly and walks away.
Breathing heavily, I turn around.
Jessica looked angry and Harvey looked at me, looking a little confused. Jessica parted her lips and spoke:
"Amelia, Harvey. What the hell is going on in my firm?"
How would I explain that now?
