Chapter Seventeen: The Minor Family

Liam's Pov

I know Kinn had told me I could stay in bed so I could rest my body, I really did need the rest after what happened last night.

While I wasn't one to pass up the opportunity to be lazy, I decided I would still attend work.

For a few reasons.

I can't let myself get distracted. I'm here for a reason and I still need to be on my A game.

And there's just no way I'm missing work. Especially today.

Today's the day the minor family appear for their meeting.

I get to see Kan, Vegas and Macau.

Now, while I wasn't anywhere near excited seeing Kan, I was excited to see both Vegas and Macau.

And I want to be able to stop Porsche from getting choked because of what happened when him and Macau met.

Being friends with Macau might be hard, considering at times he can be a little bratty, but I just have to find a way to get on his good side.

So, here I was, getting changed into my suit so I could stand outside with the others.

Pravat stood by the door, his arms crossed over his chest, an upset look on his face.

He obviously was concerned about my well being and didn't like the fact that I would still be working.

I swear when I told him I'd still be in for work, he stared at me like I killed his dog.

"You know you don't have to do this. You can just stay in bed and rest. After all, you deserve it" Pravat sighed.

"I know, Mr. Kinn even gave me permission to rest, but I'm not going to do it" I said.

"Why? If it were any other guard they wouldn't pass up the opportunity" Pravat frowned.

"Yeah, well, I'm not those guards. Besides, work is important and I'm not one to slack off" I said.

It's true.

I work for the mafia and in this life you can't slack off or rest.

Even if you were given permission.

I understand that I need rest, considering what happened last night at the event, but I just can't let myself get distracted.

And if I allow myself to rest and be lazy, it could impact me later on and I can't have that.

My parents, and Jack's parents, have always told us that when it comes to work we have to be at our A game.

"Look, I obviously can't convince you to stay and rest, just take it easy and don't overwork yourself" Pravat softly said.

"No problem" I grinned.

"Good. Now, come on" Pravat said.

I nodded and stood up from my bed almost instantly.

I soon came to regret that when pain shot through me, causing me to hiss as my hand flew to the side of my hip.

"Oh god" I muttered.

I had stretched myself too much when I had stood up, meaning that the bruise on my hip stretched too.

And that hurt like a bitch.

I guess that's expected when a skilled assassin hits you with a fucking baton.

Pravat's eyes widened and he quickly rushed to my side, grabbing onto my arm.

"Liam, you gotta be careful, your bruises still need to heal" Pravat said.

"Yeah, I know" I nodded, biting my lip.

Pravat shook his head before linking my arm with his, keeping me close to his side.

"Come on. I'll guide you there" Pravat said.

"Why thank you, kind sir" I teasingly grinned, winking at him.

Pravat rolled his eyes at me but let out a chuckle of amusement while shaking his head at me.

Together, we left our room and made our way downstairs.

At The Front Of The Entrance

I should've known that the second I stepped outside, I would immediately be face to face with a wide eyed Porsche.

Porsche who literally started scolding me for appearing to work when I should've been resting.

Porsche who literally called me 'dumb little nong' because I refuse to stay in bed.

Porsche who literally smacked my hip, earning a loud hiss from me, and quickly apologized and hugged me tightly.

Not to mention the glares he earned from the other bodyguards when he hit my hip.

Luckily, Pete managed to pull Porsche away from me and calm him down.

Otherwise Pravat would've smacked him across the face, especially when he was glaring at him.

The bodyguards that were present couldn't believe that I would still show up for work rather than take the time to rest.

Especially when Kinn gave me permission to do so.

I simply ignored the looks of disbelief I got from them and stood next to Porsche.

Pravat took his place at my other side, glancing at me a couple of times to make sure I was alright.

Arm and Pol were chatting about something while Porsche was looking around in confusion.

"What happened? Why are we in a straight line?" Porsche asked, looking at Pete.

I nodded, pretending to be confused as well, and watched as Pete and Pravat shared a look.

"Today, the minor family is having a meeting here" Pete said.

Porsche's eyes widen slightly in realization as he nodded his head.

"Oh, the minor family. I remember them from the presentation" Porsche smiled.

"Shocking considering you were asleep the entire time" I rolled my eyes.

Pravat snorted while Pete let out a chuckle as he shook his head in amusement.

Porsche playfully glared at me and gently hit my shoulder, making me playfully glare at him as well.

"He is Mr. Korn's brother, right?" Porsche asked.

"He is Mr. Kan. He joins the meeting here once a month. He's our VIP guest" Pravat explained.

"Well, that's good. Two families helping each other out" Porsche smiled.

I had to bite back a snort at that.

Korn and Kan have had this stupid rivalry for fucking years and even as adults they still have it.

Not to mention they want this stupid rivalry to continue by putting their sons against each other.

It's stupid. It truly is.

Pete and Pravat shared a look before they both let out nervous laughs and shook their heads.

"Well, we don't know about that" Pete shook his head.

"Why is that?" Porsche asked, furrowing his eyebrows in confusion.

Pete merely shook his head while Pravat looked away, not wanting to expand further.

"Well, when are they arriving?" Porsche asked, getting a little impatient.

Pete opened his mouth to speak when we heard cars pulling up, making me bite my lip in excitement.

"Here they are" Pravat said.

Almost instantly we all stood up straight and had our heads held high, making sure to remain stern and respectful.

The first car pulled up and stopped at the front of the entrance.

The second car pulled up and stopped behind the first car.

"The cars are freaking fancy" I whispered to Pravat.

"That's what I say everytime" Pravat whispered back, grinning.

We shared a laugh before our stern expressions returned.

A minor family guard opened the car door and I held my breath as I watched, keeping eye contact the entire time.

Kan slowly stepped out of the car, in his fancy suit, staring at the house in front of him with his head held high.

He turned his head around and his eyes made contact with the four of us.

"That is Mr. Kan, the head of the minor family" Pete told us.

I prefer to call him 'sorry excuse of a leader and father' it suits him better.

The four of us nodded our heads, as signs of respect, and watched as Kan turned away and walked inside.

God, I wanted nothing more than to shoot the bastard right then and there.

We heard footsteps and turned around and my breath hitched, ever so slightly.

Vegas, another one of my favorite characters, walked by us and smiled at both Porsche and I before moving forward.

I know he's kind of the bad guy, at least at the moment, but I can't deny that he is hot.

But, just like with Kinn, I don't see myself ever getting in a romantic relationship with him.

After all, he's reserved for Pete and they're my favorite couple from the show.

"And that was Mr. Vegas, the oldest son positioning as Mr. Kinn" Pravat told Porsche and I.

I nodded while Porsche frowned.

"Who did he smile at?" Porsche asked, confused.

"How would I know?" Pete asked, confused himself.

Porsche opened his mouth to say something but I beat him to it, wanting to say the line instead.

"I think because you're handsome. So he smiled at you" I teasingly smiled, sending him a wink.

Pravat snorted in amusement while Porsche grinned, having caught onto what I was doing.

Pete blushed, ever so slightly, before smirking as he brushed some of his hair back.

"Of course" Pete nodded, looking incredibly pleased.

Part of me wants to believe that Vegas's smile was somewhat aimed at Pete, but he tried to make it look like it was aimed at Porsche and I.

Although, I'm a little confused as to why he'd smile at me.

I thought he would just smile at Porsche, pretending to have an interest in him.

Whatever. It doesn't matter.

What matters is that I keep an eye on him and make sure my brother is safe.

Vegas might be one of my favorites, but right now he's considered my enemy because of the schemes he has planned.

I'm not taking any chances.

At The Garden

After we were dismissed we all left to either go train or to go back to our rooms to get some rest before continuing work.

Since the meeting was happening only a few guards had to be present, it was really necessary to have everyone.

Pete and Pravat had gone to the shooting range and offered Porsche and I to join, but we declined.

Porsche wanted time to himself while I wanted to head out to the garden and meet Macau.

When Porsche announced he was going to take a smoke break I told him to head back to the front of the entrance and smoke there.

If he goes to the garden no doubt he'll start something with Macau, assuming he's the maids son.

Porsche was confused, but since I was so hell bent on him going to the front, he agreed and left to have his smoke break.

Good.

That saves Macau from getting a bleeding head and Porsche from getting choked and losing consciousness.

Now...

It's time to see the youngest son of Kan and hopefully be his friend.

As I made my way to the garden, I admired the flowers I passed by, before stopping dead in my tracks.

There he was...

Wearing the same outfit like the one in the show. A happy smile on his face as he threw rocks into the pond.

God...he looked so happy, so playful and relaxed.

He actually looks like a regular kid, a happy kid, not a kid that grew up in the mafia with an abusive bastard as his father.

I know that Macau doesn't get physically abused like Vegas. No doubt that Vegas is taking all those hits to avoid his baby brother getting hurt. But that doesn't mean he's not receiving some harsh treatment from Kan.

Oh how I wish to burn that bastard alive.

I quickly shook those thoughts away and slowly approached Macau.

"If you value your life, or want to be saved from embarrassment, I suggest you stop" I sternly spoke.

Macau, surprisingly, stopped what he was doing and turned around to look at me.

He scanned me up and down before locking his eyes with mine.

"Excuse me?" Macau asked, not bothering to hide his annoyance.

"Mr. Tankhun is protective of his beloved fish. If he finds out you've harmed them he'll definitely punish you. More so try and embarrass you. Trust me, my brother suffered that fate" I explained.

Macau raised an eyebrow at me before letting out a chuckle.

"And who would they believe? A plain bodyguard? Or the youngest son of the minor family?" Macau asked, smirking.

Man, he really is a little bit of a brat.

And, who the hell is he calling plain?

I'm nowhere near plain, thank you very much.

"Would they believe the youngest son of the minor family? Or the security feed located out here" I smirked.

I nearly burst out laughing at the way his smirk fell and was replaced with a shocked expression.

"Security feed?" Macau asked, looking around.

"Look all you want but I doubt you'd find them. And I sure as hell won't tell you where they are" I shrugged.

I crossed my arms over my chest and stared up at the sky, staring at the clouds.

Something I always did back in my world, especially during the summer, was stare up at the clouds.

After my parents died, I would always stare up at the sky, admiring the clouds.

I always imagined my parents sitting on the clouds, staring down at me, admiring me from afar.

That image alone always brought a smile on my face but would always bring tears to my eyes.

Because it always reminded me that my parents were gone and weren't coming back.

And that reality sucks more than anything.

"Hey!" Macau suddenly spoke up.

I let out a small gasp and quickly snapped out of it, looking back at Macau.

When our eyes met I swear I saw a hint of concern flashing through his eyes, but he was covering it up.

Not that well, but not that bad either.

"Uh, sorry, what were you saying?" I asked.

"I've been calling your name for the past minute but you were too busy staring up. Not to mention your eyes were beginning to fill with tears" Macau explained.

Oh shit...

I forgot that whenever I stare up at the sky, admiring the clouds, I tend to cry.

Memories of my parents flood my head and it always puts me in a bittersweet mood.

"Sorry about that. I was just thinking" I quickly said.

"It's fine" Macau shrugged.

"Well, what were you saying?" I asked.

"I just wanted to say that you're different than the other bodyguards here" Macau said.

"How so?" I asked, tilting my head to the side.

Macau shrugged again and stuffed his hands into his pockets.

"You care. I doubt any bodyguard would've warned me like you did. They would've just walked away or reported to my crazy cousin about what I was doing" Macau explained.

"Mr. Tankhun isn't crazy. A little eccentric, but not crazy" I softly said.

Tankhun is literally my favorite out of all the characters and I hate when people call him crazy.

He's his own person and his personality is unique in his own way.

One of the many reasons I like him so much.

"And I care because you're still just a kid and I'd rather you not get in trouble. Let alone be embarrassed. Trust me, my brother suffered that fate" I added.

"What exactly happened?" Macau asked, raising an eyebrow in curiosity.

"He had to wear a mermaid costume in the pool" I deadpanned.

It took Macau only a few seconds before he burst out laughing.

I rolled my eyes but that didn't stop me from laughing either.

I had to admit that it was funny. Both on screen and in person, sorry Porsche.

"Oh, I would definitely pay to see that" Macau smiled, wiping an imaginary tear from his eye.

"I know" I chuckled.

"Well, I'm glad I don't have to suffer that, so thanks again for the warning" Macau smiled, ever so slightly.

"You're welcome, kiddo" I smiled.

The two of us stood there in silence. Comfortable silence for that matter.

We just stared down at the pond together, admiring the fishes as they swam.

After a few minutes of silence, I cleared my throat, gaining his attention as he looked at me.

"Well, I'm going to head inside, do you perhaps want to join me?" I asked.

"Where exactly are you going?" Macau asked.

"To the kitchen. I fancy making some cookies for me and my nong" I smiled.

"You have another brother?" Macau asked, a little surprised.

"Yes. He's around your age and I believe you go to the same school" I hummed.

Macau's eyes widened slightly as he narrowed his eyes at me, clearly confused.

But he was also trying to figure out who my little brother is, trying to remember if he met him or something.

I internally smirked before clearing my throat.

"So, will you join me? Or do you want to stay out here?" I asked.

"No, I'll join you. I'm curious to meet this other brother of yours" Macau said.

"Great. Please, follow me" I smiled.

Macau simply nodded and began walking as soon as I did.

When we went back inside we started making our way into the kitchen.

It would take us a while, considering how big this damn place is. I swear if it were anyone else they would've needed a map just to find the bathroom.

Macau and I were silent the entire time, but just like before, it was comfortable silence.

Hmm, Chay should already be in the kitchen.

I called him on the central phone and he told me that he'd meet me in the kitchen and we'd bake cookies together.

I wonder if Chay and Macau have met. They do go to the same school.

However, they might not have crossed paths, they could simply be just strangers.

Well, hopefully this will give them the opportunity to get to know each other and grow closer.

Finally, we made it to the kitchen, although we were the only ones here.

The maids are busy doing some other stuff, same with some of the bodyguards, while everyone else is in the meeting.

I didn't really mind. I was only expecting Chay to be here.

"Chay, nong, are you here?" I called out for my little brother.

Almost on instinct, Chay walked into the kitchen, his eyes brightened when he saw me.

"Hia" Chay smiled.

He walked towards me and carefully, really carefully, hugged me but not too tight.

He's being careful and cautious when hugging me, especially after what happened last night. He's afraid of hurting me or my injuries.

I swear to god he's too precious. Porsche is precious too, at times, but still precious nevertheless.

I chuckled and hugged him back, placing a gentle kiss to his head.

"Where were you, nong? I thought you'd already be here" I asked.

"Sorry, hia. I was finishing some homework" Chay said.

We pulled away from the hug as I placed my hands on my hips.

"You finished, right?" I asked, raising an eyebrow at him.

"Of course" Chay smiled proudly, lifting his chin slightly.

I chuckled and nodded, ruffing his hair, before turning towards Macau.

"Chay, I'd love for you to meet Macau. He's the youngest son of the minor family. They're here for a meeting that's currently being held" I explained.

Chay's eyes widened and he turned to Macau, but before he could say anything, Macau beat him to it.

"Wait a minute. I remember you" Macau pointed a finger at him.

"Really?" I asked, raising an eyebrow at him.

"Yeah. I saw him trip over and I helped him carry his books to class" Macau said.

Chay gasped, realization taking over him, as he nodded his head in agreement.

"Oh yeah! I remember. He helped me with my books, since they were so many, and we talked for a little before parting ways" Chay added.

Well, that's certainly interesting.

And at least they recognize each other, that way it wouldn't be awkward.

Macau cleared his throat and extended his hand for Chay to shake.

"Well, it's nice to see you again. And I'm happy to finally put a name on your cute face" Macau smiled.

He spoke with confidence, although the redness appearing on his cheeks said a different story.

Chay blushed himself, but he took Macau's hand into his own and shook it.

"It's nice to finally put a name on your face too. I was hoping we'd meet again after our first encounter" Chay softly said.

"I guess we're lucky, huh?" Macau chuckled.

Chay chuckled himself, the redness from his cheeks never went away.

Same goes for Macau.

I watched their interaction with happiness. They're off to a really great start.

However, I was also watching in amusement, especially at how they were blushing like tomatoes.

And the fact that they never pulled their hands away.

"So, are you two going to stop staring at each other lovingly, or are you going to help me with the cookies?" I asked.

That finally snapped them out of it.

Chay cleared his throat and pulled his hand away. He turned his head around, patting his cheeks lightly.

Macau cleared his throat as well and looked anywhere but at Chay.

But he would glance at me a few times, sending me a few glares before settling to look down at the ground.

I bit my lip to stop myself from laughing. His ticked off expression almost mad me dying.

This is bound to be interesting, that's for sure.
