Chapter 4

Gideon

"Gideon!" I could hear Pacifica scream.
"Where is she?" I demanded. "Where's my cousin?!"
"W...we don't know what you're talking about." A gnome with a brown beard and red cap stepped up who looked like the leader. "No girls around here!"
"Gideon!" I heard Pacifica yell again.
"You go look for her, I'll stay here and defeat these gnomes." The guy said.
"Are you sure? It looks like there's a lot." Gideon said. "You could die!"
"Don't worry," I smiled under my hood, "I'll be fine, but I can't say the same for these gnomes."
"Um...."
"Gideon!" I heard Pacifica scream again.
"Fine, I'll be really quick!" I said, and ran through the gnomes to where I heard Pacifica.

Dipper

"You'll never defeat us!" The leader gnome said. "Gnomes, assemble!"
I watched them climb together and link arms, as they became one huge gnome monster towering up into the sky. I laughed.
"Do you really think you can defeat me?"
I pulled off my sweatshirt to reveal my blue shirt and amulet. The amulet started to glow as my eyes slowly turned an incandescent blue.
The gnome controlling the gnome monster stuttered. "You... you're that Pines kid!"
"That's right." I smirked, as the air around me glowed blue. "And it seems you've gotten on my bad side."
The gnome monster started to glow blue too from the effects of my amulet as it started to float in mid-air. The gnomes drifted apart as they started to panic.
"Please! We beg you!" The gnome's leader pleaded.
I laughed. "Too late for apologies now."
I launched the gnomes forward, sending them deep into the forest screaming.
"That was fun." I said, putting on my sweatshirt. A few moments later, the kid named Gideon returned, running with a blonde girl about a year older who I guessed was his cousin. They skidded to a stop when they saw no gnomes anywhere.
"Where did the gnomes go?" Gideon asked.
"I guess I scared them. It was almost like they... flew away." I said.
"Thanks." Gideon said. "I owe you one."
"Yeah, thanks." His cousin said. "I'm Pacifica."
I pulled down my hood. "I'm Dipper. Pleased to meet you. And you're Gideon, right?"
"Yeah." The white-haired kid nodded.
"Wait, aren't you that guy we saw on the billboard?" Pacifica asked. "The Tent of Transparency or something?"
"Yeah, Tent Of Telepathy." He said. "Anyway, I have to go prepare for the show tonight. Maybe I could get you guys in for free." I held out two tickets.
"We were already planning on going tonight." Pacifica said, taking them. "Wow, free tickets! We already owe you twice as much!"
"Don't worry, I can think of a few ways for you to repay me. Buy me ice cream after the show?"
"Well..." Pacifica thought it over. "Sure, why not?"
"Great. It was pleasant meeting you, Pacifica..."
"Southeast. My cousin's last name is Gleeful."
"Well, Pacifica and Gideon, I can't wait to see you at the show. I hope you both will love it." I smiled. "Goodbye."
"Bye!" Pacifica waved, grinning, and Gideon waved and smiled, too.

Gideon

"Are you sure you're fine?" I asked.
"Yes, for the thousandth time!" Pacifica smiled. "I'm okay, silly! Stop worrying!" She reached for my green-ish gray cap when she stopped. "I think you lost your hat, Gid."
I reached up to my head. "Aw, no!"
"Too bad. I had a great plan for stealing it and putting it in the incinerator."
"Really?" I laughed. "You know that was my favorite hat!"
"Exactly! Besides, don't feel too bad it's gone. You hadn't washed it for weeks!"
We both laughed, and then Pacifica asked, "How did Dipper scare off those gnomes?"
We fell silent as I thought, and I took my journal out as I stopped the golf cart at the Mystery Shack. I flipped through the pages to find gnomes, but no weaknesses were listed.
"I'm not sure." I said. "I guess it's a mystery, then."
"Yeah, who cares as long as those rotten woodland creatures are gone?" Pacifica said. But I couldn't stop wondering. Why would all those gnomes be afraid of Dipper Pines? How did he scare them away?
This journal told me there was nobody I could trust, and that includes Dipper Pines.
Grunkle Stan saw us walking through the front door of the gift shop while he was restocking, and smiled.
"Hey kids!" He said brightly. "I...um, accidentally overstocked a bit, so I've decided to let you pick out one item each."
"What's the catch?" I asked. Today I saw him swindle a foreign tourist out of five bucks after telling him it cost money to use public restrooms in the United States, and charging a woman for using a coupon, which she still happily used even though the fee was more than the discount.
"The catch is pick something before I change my mind." Stan said, and I looked around, when a shelf of hats caught my eye. I went over and grabbed a blue and white baseball cap with a pine tree on it, then put it on and positioned it on my head. "This looks good."
"GRAPPLING HOOK!" Pacifica's voice rang out across the gift shop. I turned around to see her holding a grappling hook gun triumphantly in the air.
"Wouldn't you rather have a doll, sweetie?" Stan asked.
"Nope!" Pacifica pulled the trigger on the grappling hook, sending it into a pile of boxes.
"Okay." Stan said.
"Thank you, Grunkle Stan." Me and Pacifica both said, then went into the living room and up the stairs to our bedroom.
"We should get ready for the show!" Pacifica squealed. "I'm so excited! What should I wear?"
"I'm not sure." I shrugged. "I just need to hide my journal and then I'll wait for you downstairs."
"Okay!" Pacifica twirled to her suitcase as I turned around and left the room.
