Her anklets tinkled as she whirled around and collapsed on the floor, in front of the Krishna, totally exhausted. Her dance. It was her own way of worshiping Krishna. She felt closer to him whenever she danced in front of him. However, she preferred it with no one else around. She felt secure and relaxed that way. However she didn't know the information that she had been watched by not only Krishna but also by someone else.
And today that person was determined to confront her.
The bell hanging from the ceiling rang and kept swinging while he touched it and entered the platform. She was totally unaware of her ambiance. He perceived she was unconscious. He advanced towards her and sat quietly beside, waiting deliberately for her to acknowledge his presence.
After awhile she blinked and the first face she noticed was Krishna's. She genuflected in front of Krishna then sat up straight and noticed the curious another person.
"Oh! I-I-I didn't no-noticed...." She stammered and sat up composing herself hastily.
He eyed her closely. Perspiration dribbling down her face and her long sleeved kurta was glued to her torso because of sweat. Her white chiffon scarf rested in between her bosom, which was heaving up and down in breathlessness. Her eyes twinkling in amazement, lips curved into the sweetest of smile.
"It's alright." He responded,"I just wanted to talk."
"Oh.." she moved to the nearest pillar and leaned back. "Okay."
He had come with so many intriguing, thought provoking,self-troubling questions and he was determined to have the answers. He was sure the way she worshiped Krishna, she would be able to dissuade his spiritual hunger.
He hesitated for some moments before asking,"Why does it trouble me even knowing it's not about getting anything in return,it's always about giving everything to this universe?"
She watched him with an unwavering gaze before smiling sweetly and shook her head in amusement.
She smiled. "Before I answer your questions I need to know something about you. Can you answer me?" Her anklets tinkled as she changed her position and her fingers grazed over her lips. Her eyes twinkling in amusement.
He nodded seriously,"If I know the answers I will definitely."
"Okay then, tell me who are you?"
He watched her then answered,"My name is..."
"No! I meant not your name or what you do. That is a role that you are playing at different different circumstances. Your role, true, is dependent on you but you are independent of that role. Say, you are a son, but are you son of everyone of this world? No, you are the role of a son, concerning two certain people. You are playing that role, the role is certainly not you. Then tell me, who are you?"
He considered various options of his answers but then he couldn't come up with one. He hesitated before saying, "I... don't know!?"
She smiled. "There is no 'I', remember!" As she spoke that she continued putting flowers in a string that was already present there. The flowers were all dedicated to Krishna.
"What do you mean by that?" He asked.
..
"Would you call your body as you? Cause that is made of these five elements namely fire, water, air, earth and ether. Do they belong to you?"
He shook his head in bewilderment.
"Right, your body is the thing you are aware of. Your body is the object of your awareness. Then, ever so naturally there comes the reference of mind. Is your mind is you?" This time instead of giving him time to response she continued, "No, your mind also is not you. We can concentrate on what is mind instead. Mind is the collection of all the emotions you get aware of at certain point in time. Say, if you are angry, the 'anger' is the adjective related to your mind. Thus, it also falls into the same category as your physical body. Then, who are you? Who are we?" She paused and knot the two end of the string. It was now a beautiful garland.
"You are that soul who is a witness to all. It is imperishable, immortal. It leaves one body and moves to the next. It never gets destroyed. And that soul is the part of 'Aum'. The 'Aum' which is the ultimate truth. The divine consciousness. The rest is controlled by that divine supreme. The transcendental being. Cause it is everywhere. It controls everything. It is omnipresent and omnipotent. It is divine and the original cause of all causes. It starts everything and ends everything too."
He listened to her attentively as she was unfolding his queries step by step.
She smiled at him then arose to put the garland around Krishna's.
"Then why do you bother of getting anything in return as now you know, there is no such things that belongs to you while even your own-self doesn't belongs to you?"
He eyed her incredulously unable to utter anything in particular.
"Go home. I will be here tomorrow." She said and descended the stairs of the temple in rhythmic motion, oblivious of her surrounding in real.
