The terrible two.
The very next morning we were ready. After a quick shower and getting new clothes, we would set off to find Rex and Esther. They were our first stop because we knew they were on planet earth. Jack could be anywhere in the galaxy or beyond.
"Ready?" Asked Gwen.
"Yeah. Let's go."
We packed about two weeks worth of supplies and got in the car to drop Anwen off at Rhys's mothers house. We drove in complete silence for about a half hour before Anwen started crying. Everyone got very tense right away.
"Rhys, get her bottle." Gwen said.
"She's not hungry!"
"Yes she is!"
I listened to Rhys and Gwen argue and the baby get louder. I decided to try to help.
"Hi, Anwen." I said. "Shhhhhh it's ok. We'll be there soon."
She looked at me and giggled.
"Where's baby? Peekaboo! Where's baby? Peekaboo!"
Every time I covered my face with my hands Anwen gasped and when I revealed my eyes she laughed. After about fifteen minutes of peekaboo, I realized Gwen and Rhys were silent again. Gwen looked at Anwen and I adoringly. Like a proud mother.
"What?" I asked wondering if there was something on my face.
"Nothing, nothing! Your just so good with kids. Look how much fun she's having!"
I looked at Anwen. She was giggling and waving her hands around.
"Anto!" She called.
"Rhys!" Gwen shouted. "Anwen said her first word! She said Ianto!"
"Aww our little girl is growing up!" Rhys cooed.
Gwen turned around taking Rhys's hand in hers. It was so cute. After another hour we arrived at Rhys's parents house. Gwen insisted that I came in to meet everyone. Mr. Williams was lounging on the couch watching the game. Mrs. Williams was in the kitchen making tea.
"Hey mum, we're here!" Rhys called out.
"Rhys! How have you been?" She exclaimed.
"Fine Mum." He replied handing over Anwen. Mrs. Williams looked me up and down.
"Oh and who is this lovely young man?"
"Mum." Rhys started. "This is a former co worker of Gwen's. His name is Ianto, Ianto Jones."
In the other room you could hear the remote clatter out of Mr.Williams' hand. Mrs. Williams nearly dropped the baby.
"You don't mean," she whispered.
"Yes mum."
"You see ma'am." I tried explaining. "I faked my death. I was an undercover CIA agent. I was sent to Torchwood to investigate the 456 incident. I never actually died." I hated lying. But her face looked relieved.
"Well we should get going. Ianto. Rhys." Gwen pulled us by the arms to the car.
"Good job Ianto."
"I hate lying."
"Hey, my mum needed to hear it. We can't let my parents know about all those Torchwood things." Rhys started the car and headed towards London. That's just the tip of the ice berg. I thought. I hope they help us. What if they think I'm an abomination?
"Hey Ianto?" Gwen pulled me out of my thoughts.
"Yes?"
"Have you ever heard of miracle day?" Rhys visibly stiffened out of discomfort at those words.
"No." I replied reluctantly.
"Well it pretty much traumatized Esther and Rex so..." She trailed of.
"So I shouldn't mention it."
A few hours later I was waiting outside a bar with Rhys, while Gwen was explaining the situation to Rex and Esther. After a few more minutes of arguing Gwen came out, followed by a reluctant Rex and Esther.
"We got em!"
