Ch. 4
"Here's your computer class. I'll see you at lunch Luke."
"Thanks for your help Elliot," I smile entering the orange and white classroom and sitting at one of the empty desks. In this classroom every desk has a computer screen in front of them.
When I saw all the electives the lady at the front desk said I could choose from, none of them stood out to me till I saw this computer science elective. My brother Mylan loves anything to do with computers so I thought why not. Plus, in the worst case scenario I can download killing games and play while everyone else is learning about Python.
"Class has started, and we have a new student. Luke Hayes," says a man in his 30s as he looks around.
"I am Luke sir," I say, raising my hand slightly so he can pinpoint me easier.
"Good, I hope it wasn't not difficult to find this classroom."
"No sir."
"I know you may be a little behind, so just ask me if you have any questions. Now class lets open your late project.."
————————
It was actually a fun class. While I understood very little of it, Mr. Campbell is a good teacher and knows how to make lessons fun.
As I am packing up my bag, I notice a boy with jet black hair and tan skin drop his notebook as he is walking out of the classroom.
"Hey," I say, calling out to the boy after I pick his notebook up and start catching after him.
"What do you want?" Says the boy, wow he is hot. His eyes are green on the inside and brown on the outside and his shirt is tight on his arms, leading me to believe there's a lot of muscle under it.
But, Aiden is still hotter. God I need to forget Aiden, he is gone.
"What do you want," the boy spits a bit more aggressively.
"You just dropped your notebook, I didn't mean to make you angry," I say, holding the notebook out for him to take. I lower my head slightly so my blonde curls would hide the heat steaming out of my eyes. Fucking asshole. He takes the notebook out of my hand in a gentler manner and mumbles just to me, "Stay away from me, Mr. Goody Two-Shoes."
Wow, that's definitely a name I never thought I would get called. If my brothers saw me now they would laugh squarely in my face.
As I head in the direction of the cafeteria, I listen as the kids in the hallway talked about the standoff between that asshole and I.
"That new kid is so sweet, I can't believe Stefano would be so mean to him."
"This name is Luke and he is in my history class. He is so nice that he even asked the teacher if he could switch places and put Nick, you know the boy with glasses, in the front row so Nick could see better."
I actually inwardly chuckled at that. I just didn't want to sit in the front row.
"Hey Luke," Elliot calls me from his table where one other guy and a girl are sitting.
"Hey Elliot," I say, gently dropping my plate on the table.
"Guys this is Luke, my roommate. Luke, this is Rebecca," Elliot says pointing to a gorgeous redhead with light green eyes. "And Ethan," pointing to a boy a little older than us with warm brown skin and black hair.
"Nice to meet you both," I smile.
"Likewise," they both smile at me.
They both start to go back into conversation with each other, something about stealing tater tots, when I ask Elliot who was the guy I gave the notebook to, I had a pretty solid idea of what it was based on the names thrown around in the hallway, but I just wanted to double check.
"Oh, that's Stefano. He's pretty nice to people most of the time unless he's having an off day."
Lovely so today just happened to be an off day. Just my luck.

This boarding school wasn't that bad and I picked up a new passion that I ended up following all the way to college. But it was only after two days, till my family's influence followed me. To be fair, I was walking around alone at night, not a good combination for someone who just decided to run away from the underground.
On the right side of the school behind the dorms, was the small pond where students could run or walk around.
It was then when I felt it. It was an instinct that I trained many years for. I dive out of the way of a flying knife and I take out the two knives strapped around my waist while I start running out of sight from other students.
"You stupid kid, didn't your daddy teach you that you can't run away from the mafia," says a husky male's voice which sounded like he had one too many cigarettes.
"That didn't stop me," I say, smiling like a damn psychopath. Things like this always give me thrill and adrenaline.
I stopped running once I reached the very back of the school where no one hung out.
"Come on asshole, I'm supposed to be the one to kill you, not the running," I spit out at the piece of trash in front of me who was huffing and wheezing like the damn big bad wolf.
"Oh you little shit," says the man as he rushes towards me to get in the first hit. "I am going to mail him all your skeletal remains in a coffin right to his doorstep."
"No thanks, he would prefer you not use a coffin," I say dodging his arm, missing to see his other arm land straight into my stomach.
I land into a wall behind me and stay there for a moment to recuperate. In that time the man starts walking back up to me to try and land another punch. But this time I use the wall as a support and as the man comes closing I kick my foot out and hit him in the shoulder.
"Shit," he grunts, gripping his shoulder with his arm.
I don't waste time and find his stomach with my first knife and his neck with my second killing him instantly.
His body gracefully falls to the ground and lands in a pile of his blood. But I still feel uneasy.
"Who's there?" I say, flattening my back to the wall, so no one could sneak up behind me. Shit, I cannot have someone ruining the reputation I've built up already.
"Wow he kills people? Never thought I'd see that come out of you, Goody Two-Shoes," Stefano says, walking out from behind the wall with a cigarette in his hand.
"Be careful there, Stefano. I may think you're flirting with me," I threw back at him, dropping my innocent mask completely.
"I think I like you more now, dear. Since you've completely dropped your facade."
I look back at Stefano's eyes to see what he's really feeling, but his eyes look just as unbothered as his body looks calm and collected. I don't think it's a normal thing in California to see bodies lying around everywhere.
"Who are you?" I say pulling out my two knives from the dead man.
"Woo, darling," Stefano holds his hands up. "Why don't you start with yourself. It's not every day I see a transfer student killing people behind the school."
Realizing I'm not going to get any information from him, unless I spill some myself, I put the knives down. "Where's the closest place to drop this fucker off?"
————————
"Hey Luke," Elliot says walking into our dorm room. "Someone wrote you a letter."
I put the book down on the bed, open spine up and walked over to Elliot, where he was holding a letter up to me in his hand.
I took the letter from his hand, giving him a thank you and went to sit down back on my bed.
"I didn't realize people still sent letters, why don't they just send text messages?"
I look up from the letter that was written in my dad's handwriting. "They think it makes them cool," I say, hiding my lie behind the short laugh that follows.
I look back down at the letter and see the code dad made scribbled out.

His code was the first thing he ever taught me when I was just learning how to read.
I was reading a picture book that I had gotten from my teacher. "I see a cat that likes to..."
"Who taught you to read like that?!" My dad said walking up to me from behind the couch.
"My teachers," I smiled.
"Well... they aren't teaching it to you correctly when you read my letters. For my letters, shift each letter 5 to the right and you will find what I really mean."
"How?" I question.
"Here I will show you," dad says, reaching for my hand and taking me to his office to practice.
That should be it. It makes sense. Damn that took a while, maybe I should try to make a computer code to unscramble this faster.
Dear Luke,
I heard from a friend of mine that someone attacked the forger and forced him to give up information about you. I hope you are safe and understand that I am going to fake your death so that people will stop going after you. I will also make sure that your brothers just think that you ran away, mostly so they don't go on killing sprees.
Lots of love,
Mr. Auclair
"Hey dude you should probably go to bed. It's already 9 o'clock," Elliot says, walking over to turn the lights off. "Are you okay you have been staring at that letter for 5 hours. Just know if you need someone to talk to, I'm here."
"Thanks, it's just some family stuff though," I say, dropping the letter back into the envelope and shoving it in one of my textbooks. I can't let anyone find it.
"I'm gonna go walk around the lake for a bit, goodnight," I say, waving back at Elliot as I walk out the door.
————————
As I sit on the bench facing the pond, I question my choices and wonder if I really did make the right choice. I wish I could ask my brothers what I should be doing, but now I'm here by myself.
I wonder what my cousins are thinking about hearing me dead. I wonder if they're laughing thinking, of course he's the first to try and leave.
My cousins and I always had a more like-hate relationship. They did always say I was an asshole because I constantly pranked them.
They were just mad they could never get me back. I would always outsmart them.
Our parents also always had to keep us separated at parties cause we would always get into fist fights. Those were pretty fun times. Those parties were boring and would last for hours, but with those two we would dare each other to do everything under the moon, from dancing on tables to throwing knives into the unexpecting crowd.
"What's wrong Luke," says a voice pulling me out of my thoughts.
"Just family things, Stefano. Nothing to concern yourself with," I say, turning around to face him.
"It must be really bad if you didn't notice me till I said something."
"Maybe, I'm going to go get some sleep," I say while getting up from the bench. "See you tomor..." I feel an arm wrap around my waist and pull me tight to his chest.
"Everyone needs a hug at some point in their life," Stefano says, pulling me in tighter.
I leaned my head back and inhaled the warmth he gave off hoping it would never end.
A/N: Is everyone excited for a time skip. I know I am.
