Chapter 2

Emma woke up more groggy than ever. She opened her eyes and for a moment she didn't believe them.

"What happened?" she asked loudly, not expecting an answer. Slowly but surely her brain caught up and the day's events came back to her. As she remembered how she got back, she jumped up from her bed and went out of her room to look for her parents. She found them in the kitchen.

"Mom, Dad, where were you this morning?" Emma asked her parents while giving both of them a hug. She had a sneaking suspicion but it was just that. Not concrete enough to call them out on it.

"Shopping. What about you Emma?" Marinette turned back to cooking.

"I... Uh..." Before Emma could come up with a reasonable answer her father interrupted.

"We know Kiddo," Adrien said. "Rena rouge found us after dropping you off here," he explained as Emma raised an eyebrow

"What were you thinking? Actively going towards a supervillain?" Marinette wasn't as mad as Emma expected. She sounded worried but also understanding in a way.

"That I want an interview with Rena," Emma said rolling her eyes but continuing upon seeing her father's raised eyebrows. "And that Julia will get herself in trouble if I don't go."

"Yes, but you could have seriously been hurt," Marinette remarked.

"Don't worry mom, I got the pep talk from Ladybug already." Emma rolled her eyes once again. A spark was lit in her brain, though she acted like she didn't notice how similar her mother acted to Ladybug. Again. For a while they were quiet, all three being immersed in their own thoughts.

Emma was looking at her mother, trying to imagine her wearing the Ladybug outfit. She couldn't see it for some reason but it still made sense to her. Marinette always disappeared at the time of villain attacks, claiming later to have been doing something mundane or being influenced by the villain. She never really put two and two together but the way Ladybug acted for the third time when Emma got into trouble was too much like her mother.

"Are you okay sweetie?" Marinette's voice brought Emma out of her thoughts. "I heard what the power of the villain was" It wasn't one of Emma's better experiences but it wasn't the worst.

"Yeah, it wasn't as bad as usual. Plus I got to talk to Rena again" she said with the ever-cheerful tone she used most of the time.

"She's just like Alya" Adrien commented to Marinette

"That's what I said" The remark wasn't really meant for anyone but it reminded Emma that Rena had a similar comment to her. "Come, eat something. It's almost five o'clock" Marinette set the table for dinner.

"Wow. It must have been some power..." Emma said realizing that she got taken home around nine o'clock and almost immediately fell asleep.

"Yeah. You were just sleeping so peacefully we didn't want to wake you." Adrien said as they sat down to eat.

"I still feel sleepy so I will go back up after dinner" She wasn't completely lying, although sleeping wasn't the first on her to-do list. They ate their dinner while discussing the new threat. None of them seemed to know who this new holder was, or where he came from.

When they finished Emma went up to her room, thinking about whether she is a complete idiot or a genius.

"Maybe both, if this turns out to be true," she said flopping down in front of her laptop. As she turned the machine off, she noticed a necklace with a big silver feather pendant on the middle of the desk.

"What the..." she said taking it into her hands. To her surprise, the necklace was buzzing with a weird heat. It reminded her of something but before she could think about it a glowing orb appeared before her and blinded her for a few seconds.

By the time she opened her eyes, the orb was gone, and in its place, there was a tiny floating creature. Its body was a golden yellow. Its limbs and beak were black. It had several feather-like attachments creating a tail, some kind of wings, and a little crown on its head. The tail and crown were orange, while the wings were yellow. The first thing that came to Emma's mind was a chicken but she realized it couldn't be that.

"The rooster miraculous isn't a necklace" she mumbled almost forgetting she had an unexpected visitor.

"So true" the high-pitched voice was soothing and royal. Emma's attention turned back to the kwami in front of her. She tried to figure out which animal it was and how the Miraculous got to her room. "My name is Amara, I am the phoenix kwami. I can give you the power of healing and restoration and a lifetime friendship if you accept."

"Why would a guardian leave a Miraculous with me?" Emma asked not as confused as ecstatic.

"No guardian has ever seen me before," Amara remarked with a serious expression. "I chose you to be my holder after seeing your interactions with people." she said to answer the "why" part of Emma's question.

"Okay... what?" Emma was now confused.

"Most Miraculous is distributed through Guardians. However, there are four that should never be trusted to a human to give out. I am one of these four. The four most powerful of the Miraculous" Amara explained.

"How are healing and restoration one of the most powerful?" Emma was more convinced than her question let on. It was more her inner reporter than not understanding that asked the questions.

"That isn't the extent of my power." Amara smiled, seemingly picking up Emma's motivation to ask the question. "I am called the queen of kwamis. It is not technically my title, more of a power description. I was given this name because I can sense and find any and every kwami. I can also give this power to my holder, though only if a bond is established"

"And you chose me?" It was more of a statement as the realization finally sank into Emma's mind.

"Yes. If you would like to create a bond, all you have to do is transform." Amara instructed, pushing the necklace that was still in Emma's hand closer to the girl. "Say "Amara, royal wings sprout" and if you want to transform back just say "royal wings, rest". Do you accept this Miraculous?" She asked.

"Am I getting myself into some "grand destiny" thing?" Emma asked, not really caring about it just wanting to know. She really wanted to help the heroes in a meaningful way and join in the "hero-fun" as Julia called it.

"Possibly," Amara said with a thinking expression. "Although I do not know what your idea of a "grand destiny" is," she stated. "My power comes with responsibility. You will be able to tell who is a miraculous user and find rouge kwamis. Your status will get you into harm's way more than any other Miraculous would."

"My mom would flip if she knew that. Come to think of it, so would Ladybug. Let's do this!" Emma smirked and finally put the necklace on. The silver design changed to a less noticeable one although it was still a fairly big feather pendant.

"Amara, royal wings, sprout!" As she said the words an orange-ish light engulfed her. It looked and felt like fire as it moved from the top of her head to the tip of her toes. She could feel her clothing change and some weird power flow through her veins.

When the transformation finished she walked up to a mirror in her room. She examined herself and cringed a little bit at the site. she had a golden-yellow mask and robe that slightly resembled a dress. the necklace turned into a pin, seemingly holding the upper part of her robe together. It opened up under her chest revealing a red skintight suit that ended above her knees, leaving most of her leg bare.

On her robe, a silver line spiraled from her neck down to her thighs. Her blue and green eyes looked back at her from behind a mask the same color as the robe and in her hair, there was a little wing-like decoration. As she looked at her hair she grinned at its new design. It was mostly still black but the end of it became a dark red color. She also had wings in the colors of a fire. She spread them surprised as the muscles felt natural, almost as if she had wings originally

"Well, at least no one will think it's me, with how much this thing looks like a dress. Not that I'm complaining or anything" she turned around in front of the mirror. As she finished inspecting herself she heard footsteps approaching her door.

"Royal wings rest" she quickly said and told Amara to hide. Her father appeared at the door just as the tiny phoenix hid behind the computer on Emma's desk. A strange feeling flooded Emma but she couldn't place it and her adrenalin quickly overruled it so she couldn't linger on it.

"Emma," Adrien said as he stepped inside the room. "We had a surprise for you with your mom. We didn't want to tell you until you calmed down a little after this morning." He stopped for a second before spilling the tea. "When we met with Rena this morning we arranged for you to meet her under some calmer circumstances so you could have that interview. She said she'd come here next weekend"

Emma stood in front of her father with wide eyes. She started to be overwhelmed by surprises but of course, she couldn't tell that to her father. After a few moments of wide-eyed staring, she wrapped her arms around her father.

"Thank you" she whispered before letting go. Adrien smiled at her before leaving the room again leaving Emma with her thoughts and a kwami that just bonded to her. She slowly moved to her desk and sat down in front of it trying to collect her thoughts.

Emma started to hear buzzing in her head as she sat there and the adrenalin finally cleared from her system. She couldn't understand it although it felt oddly familiar. Amara was sitting in front of her on the table. The little kwami was waiting patiently for her new holder.

„This buzzing," Emma started, touching her necklace. „What is it? I felt it, well, something very similar this morning and then on this necklace. And now, in my head. It's like there are different frequencies" she said thinking aloud, happy that she didn't have to figure out all of it independently.

„That is the kwami presence. Every kwami has different radiation to them. Try separating them. See where they're coming from" Amara flew up to look into Emma's eyes.

„There are two that stand out. The others are too much and they are weaved together like some kind of melody" the longer the buzzing was in her head the more it started to sound like music to her.

„They are all coming from close. If I didn't know any better I'd say this house. A basement maybe or something."

„I could tell you if you'd like," Amara said seeing the exhaustion in Emma's eyes. „After all, I've had these powers for thousands of years"

„No, I'll figure it out. What's the fun in being told what to do?" Emma said chuckling. She thought for a moment then asked the next question on her mind. „Why did you change the way you speak?"

„The phoenix is a special miraculous." Amara started explaining. „Only a few share such a deep bond with the holder that even the kwami's behavior changes. When we shared the bond, some of your traits became mine just as some of my traits became yours"

„So the phoenix is the queen of kwamis," Emma said thinking. There was so much she wanted to know. She tried to organize her thoughts, after all, she wanted to be a reporter. „You mentioned four kwamis. What are the other three?"She asked.

„The raven, the ladybug, and the black cat" Amara stated sitting back on the desk.

„Wait, wasn't the raven miraculous the one Ladybug tried to stop?" Emma remembered that the supposed miraculous user had a raven-like theme to his costume.

„Yes. Unfortunately, she didn't succeed" Amara looked down as her voice became quieter.

„How do you know?" Emma felt bad for the little kwami. She couldn't even imagine what it could be like to have your friend be a slave to a bad person.

„Do you feel the vibration you felt this morning?" Amara didn't directly answer.

„No..." Emma closed her eyes trying to sort through the different buzzing sounds. „Only a bunch of smaller ones. And two very different ones" She said after a few seconds.

„Exactly"

„Okay." Emma decided to leave it at that for the moment. „Next question, what exactly is the raven's power?" Emma had an idea about that but she wanted to know how it could be one of the strongest.

„Trapping you in a dream of the wearer's choice or bringing the said dream to live. With a bond, the holder can also tell if any kwami is in trouble. He has the title of king." Amara said.

„You two are good friends aren't you?" At this moment Emma's phone rang. She jumped out of her seat as it scared her. Amara just smiled at her and Emma cursed her tendency to find her friends' suffering funny.

Checking the phone she turned to Amara.

„We will continue this in a second," she said then answered the call.

„Hey Nicole," she said with the most cheerful tone she could muster.

„Emma, I heard what happened. Are you okay?" Nicole's voice was ringing with worry for Emma.

„I'm fine now. Sorry for not calling earlier I was... busy." Emma looked at Amara at this point, not knowing what to say she was doing that was more important than calling Nicole.

„I know. Busy sleeping. I called your mom" Nicole cackled at the other side of the line.

„You what?" Emma's jaw dropped.

„What you afraid she won't like me?"Nicole teased her.

„Considering who your mother is, yes. Very much" Emma said seriously.

„Well, she didn't object to us being friends so that's good" Emma could hear Nicole's grin in her voice.

„I gotta go," she said looking at Amara. „This power drained me. See you Monday" she was eager to get back to questioning the kwami. She wasn't lying though, both the events that morning and her newfound power was draining her energy quickly.

„See ya," Nicole said before the line disconnected. For a moment Emma sat in silence. Her mother knew of their friendship as they attended the same school but they never really talked before.

„You should get some sleep. You look tired. We'll have plenty of time to discuss whatever questions you still have tomorrow" Amara interrupted Emma's thoughts.

„Yeah. It's already 7 o'clock. Thanks for choosing me Amara" Emma said and went to get ready for bed. She took a shower and brushed her teeth.

As she was about to fall asleep something changed in the air. She couldn't put her finger on it at first but as Amara appeared in front of her groggy eyes she understood. The two kwamis that stood out to her just transformed two people. Which could only mean one thing.

„Well, I guess my sleeping is gonna have to wait," Emma said sitting up.

„You should stay hidden and only intervene if there is no other choice. Your power must stay hidden, although I'm afraid you will be needed to take the miraculous of the raven away from whoever is wearing it." Amara tried to say as much as she could so Emma would be ready.

„I'll be careful," Emma reassured her. „But I can't stay still now that I have powers. And the weapon of my choice apparently" she said the last part more to herself than her kwami. „Amara, Royal wings, sprout!" she said. An orange-ish light engulfed her and soon she was sitting in her orange outfit.

She was still not used to her wings but having no other choice she tentatively flapped them. They were working and she gathered her courage to try and jump up to a rooftop. Her wings flared with flames as she spread them after jumping out of her window. She pushed them hard against the air and her body shot up high above the buildings.

She decided to spread her wings and managed a clumsy but fairly effective glide towards the battle scene. Ladybug and Chat noir were already there, along with Rena rouge and carapace. She made sure not to be seen by any of them as she landed to watch the fight.

A/N

Hi there, hope you enjoyed this episode. It became a little longer than the previous one (and possibly future ones). If you find any mistakes let me know.

If you could help me find a good name for her as a superhero I would appreciate that. I am currently partial to 'Silver phoenix' but it doesn't feel quite right.

Hopefully, it isn't too info-dumpy. There is still a lot to be known about the phoenix and I will try to pace it out so it feels natural.

That's it for today, next chapter comes on June 6. Have a great week till then.
