"Where are we going OP?"

The adoptive parent could only chuckle as he walked while holding High Tide's hand, "You'll see, High Tide."

"Okie?" The kid was confused but trusted him so he didn't question it yet.

The two eventually arrived at their destination; a  beautiful park that had tons of flowers and even a petting zoo, which had the child's eyes sparkling.

Optimus chuckled as he explained, "It's quite fun, don't you think?"

"Yeah!!! What are we doing first OP?!" He eagerly asked.

"The petting zoo!"

"Yay!!"

With that, the two set off for the zoo, where many kinds of cute animals were waiting for them. Especially...

"BUNNIES!!" 

High Tide's favourite animals were there and boy was he happy.

Optimus smiled at how much fun he was having, although it was probably temporary...

No, he couldn't, he REFUSED to think that way. He was Optimus Prime! Legendary warrior of Cybertron! He was not about to let his doubts define him! He was going to give High Tide the time of his life no matter what!

He still had THAT to look forward to, after all.

For the next few hours, they went around, playing with the other animals and even getting to watch some shows here and there. High Tide was particularly excited about the dolphin show and kept asking if he could take the newly-named Dodo home. OP had to put his foot down on that, so thankfully he dropped it, although that took a long while too.

Despite all that, once the two had enough fun, OP decided that it was time, "High Tide, come on. We have one final thing to do today."

"Huh? What's that OP?" High Tide asked the Transformer he now saw as his surrogate parent.

"You'll see," He gave a vague answer before walking away, a confused but equally curious High Tide following.

Once again the two were walking around until they finally arrived at another place. An office to be exact.

"Why are we here OP?" The child asked.

OP could only chuckle before stepping in, ready to take the next step in his parenting.

The office they were headed to wasn't hard to find, and once they did they were greeted by a kind elderly woman, "My my, you arrived quite quickly."

"Forgive me for the early arrival," OP replied. "We're here to sign the papers if that's okay."

"Yes, yes, I have set it out for you," She reassured him as she opened her door for the two. "Do come in!"

Optimus then set Tide down on the sofa next to him, the papers in front of him blatantly showing the reason they were here in bolded letters; "LETTER OF ADOPTION".

This was definitely a mind blowing revelation to the cinnabun, "Y-You want to adopt me OP?"

He nodded, "I had time to think and I decided that rather than making you an abstract promise, I'll make a physical one. That way I will always remember to come back to you."

Seeing High Tide's mouth go ajar, he hesitated, "B-But of course it's your choice! Y-you don't have to be pressured-"

He suddenly felt High Tide slam into him, his hands wrapping around the older male tight as he sobbed, "O-Of course I wanna be your son OP!!"

In all his life, Optimus Prime had never felt as happy as he did now as he hugged back.

The lady could only chuckle quietly. Sometimes she wished she had been as lucky as these people had. But hey, her work brought smiles so it worked out for her.

She got to see the two sign their names on the paper and watch as they hugged again, now as father and son.

Even if they were apart, now they had a promise to always come back to each other.

And that was a promise kept for many years to come.
