Chapter 27: Out Of The Bag
At the airport, Kanye halted the car and walked to Tap where Micheal sat in the back seat. He lowered the window glass to listen. "I'll give them your visa and check your luggage. Give me a second."
"Okay, fine." Micheal nodded in agreement.
"Can you give me your ID card?" Kanye requested with raised brows. Just in case.
"Sure." Micheal's jaws gnawed as he deepened twice fingers into his side pocket and handed Kanye his ID card so that he possess his travel and alert him once it was time.
Once Kanye left, Micheal's phone rang.
"Hello." He answered the call. It was Cryst.
"Are you sure you just saw Susanne?" Micheal furrowed as he glared at the airport's entrance.
"Stop asking questions, just come here at once!" Crystal urged.
"Okay, fine!" He ended the call with a grunt and failed Susanne's contact. It rang but no reply. She'd mistakenly left it in Kingsley's car. Micheal called repeatedly. No one answered. The electronic vibration pissed Micheal, he decided to call Kanye to inform him, but Kanye also left his phone in the car.
"Oh, what's that?"Micheal kissed and stopped out of his car. Glance g at his wristwatch, it read 8:55 a.m. The thought of seeing Susanne made him flash with white, hot terror.
‘Would Susanne ever cheat on me? Impossible!’ He spat and blinked twice to confirm it wasn't a dream.
Crystal sent a photograph of Susanne and the new guy, though, she was yet to know his bane. She also forwarded the hotel address and room number so he would meet up with her. Unsettled, Micheal hurried towards the driver's door. About to hold the handle, a memory of the night he had an accident dazzled through his eyes. He shut it at once and held his head to the sudden pain that engulfed him. How he drove hitting the three and stumbling played before his eyes. Miche blanched slightly to the subtle panic.
It's been five years and the accident still had an effect. He wished he could go and take a seat, but Cryst wouldn't accuse Sussanne if she didn't see something. With trembling hands, Micheal grabbed the car handle and jabbed it open. Slipped into the driver's seat and shut the door.
Unease unfurled in Micheal's chest as his eyes misted over. Sweat beads clung to the back of his neck, dampening his black carpeted hair. His sweaty gave clutched up before he gently placed it on the steering wheel. "I can do this!" Micheal said to himself and turned on the car ignition before driving out of the airport, taking a turn towards the Sheraton Hotel.
At the hotel, Kingsley pushed the door open and helped Susanne into the hotel room he'd booked. Her hand bah gripped from her grip as she settled in a white sofa. She held her head and stroked through its sides. Kingsley sat right next to her staring at her with eyes full of concern.
"What's wrong with you?" Kingsley raised his face, tilting closer to her. "You're sweating all over, are you sick?"
"I'm fine, Kingsley." Susanne wiped a hand over her forehead as sweat trickled. "Don't bother yourself."
"Did Micheal bully you again?" His eyes narrowed.
"I told you don't worry yourself about me. A married woman, not a child. Anything that happens between my husband and I should remain between my husband and me, okay?" She gave a warning tune.
"Uh!" Suzanne's head dropped as she held her head and chest, rushing to the toilet to puke.
Kingsley wasted no time at all. He rushed to grab her from behind, rubbing her back so her nerves would be calm. With the help of the tap from behind, Susanne rinsed her mouth with an exasperated sigh.
Kingsley studied her tired eyes and placed a hand over her forehead and neck.
"Are you having malaria?"
"Stop being overprotective of me!" She hissed. "I want to end this relationship so bad but you won't let go."
"I tried to let go of you, Susanne. It's not as if I enjoy being so nice to you, trust me! But we've come a long way, too far to stay away from each other. You came to me when we stayed away for 6 months, remember? After we agreed not to see each other again, you almost committed suicide begging me to meet you once last time."
"Don't be that up, Kingsley!" Susanne glared.
"If Michael didn't propose to you, I would have been your husband by now. You told me that you'll end up with him until he wedded you as his legal wife. It's all your fault. Maybe we would have a dozen children by now and our lives would have been filled with so much happiness.... Is it even possible?"
"No, it's not possible!" Her scowl echoed as she exclaimed in rage. "Dear, snap out of it! Not in your wildest dreams, Kingsley. Even if I never met Micheal, I wouldn't end up with you!" She fumed to his face and stormed into the bedroom. The icy current went up and down her spine as she clasped her head in both palms, facing the window of the skyscraper she stood. In the same manner, Kingsley followed her and snatched her arm. I know I'm not completely useless to you! I have a job and I'm physically fit, not some mentally ill guy you can toy around with!" She flinched from his touch with gritted teeth.
"I love you more than his, Susanne! Mk Michael might be better than me in a way, but I'm best for you!" Kingsley stood facing her with his pair of eagle eyes. Both of them frowned upon each other with spite in their eyes when Kingsley grabbed Susane by the has and drove a kiss to her lips. In contempt, she tore her lips off his and landed a thundering slap against his strong jutting chin.
Kingsley grasped his clenched jaw with throbbing veins in his neck. His eyes narrowed in disbelief as she rolled her eyes at him, disgustingly.
"I told you I don't want it, Kingsley! I want to end it with you, now and today!" she looked around with filled arms, taking some steps away from where he stood. "Let's make it clear today. I came back to you due to loneliness and this obsession ends here. This relationship was a big mistake, do you hear? I can't continue living in this nightmare with you! I'm a married woman now and I love my husband!
You should get lost instead of dreaming of having children with me... I hate you!"
"Fine, I understand that you were drunk that night, it's been two months since we last met so, be sure that I won't tell a soul about this." His sparkling pupils face her assurance
"Whatever, it's not like I care!" She turned away and sat at the edge of the big master bed. An awkward silence reigned in the room for a moment. "Micheal doesn't deserve any of this. Susanne trembled at the words, and it startled Kingsley that it worried Susanne to bring her close to tears. She was never the affectionate type, except when it came to acting and pretense.
Kingsley stepped up to her and knelt in front of her. "What do you mean?"
With a firm stare at each other, Susanne ran her hands through her hair. I'll submit my resignation letter to Madukwe Productions. I can't work with you anymore. It's best we avoid each other and never meet again.
"Okay, if that's what you want." Kingsley rambled.
His eyes glinted into two gentle blinks, as he took it in.
Poignant, Kingsley watched with his heart in his throat.
Susanne sniffled. A sigh heaved out of her lungs as she rolled her eyes heavenward. Her mind flooded with tears and she tried hard to shed a tear. But she did. Her eyes were prickling with tears, as she muffled in the pain. They shouldn't have ended this way. This was not the way she wanted things to be. Susanne couldn't comprehend if the dance of betrayal had come to an end, or if it had just begun. The room felt silent as her leaving footsteps echoed when Micheal grabbed her by the arm again. A solemn tear rolled down Susanne's face as the door flung open to Micheal and Cryst.
With a gasp, Susanne inhaled with slack jaws and fixed her gaze on the figures standing in front of her. Her right hand clasped between her nose and mouth. At once, Kingsley let go of Susanne's arms as another year drop rolled down her left cheek. "M....icheal." She stammered.
Fear rushed over her in a dark, suffocating wave. She swallowed and chewed briefly on shaky breaths. Kingsley was shocked at how he knew.
Micheal stepped forward with curled his crinkled nose. With the pain his his eyes, it was evident that he needed an explanation.
"Micheal... Shouldn't you be in America?" Her low stuttering was barely audible. Her gaze turned down, flushed to see him in the same room with Kingsley, her high school boyfriend.
With a hand in his pocket, Micheal halted a step away from Susanne.
"Cryst told me to check on you. I called but you didn't pick up. A husband must check on his wife, but I guess you're having a nice time here." He explained. "Where's your phone?"
"Umm... My phone." Suzanne scratched her neck and checked her handbag but it wasn't there.
"It seems you don't need to be checked after." Micheal glared at Kingsley.
"Susanne, how could you?" Cryst nagged. "My brother hasn't left the country and you've got a hotel room with another man? Is this how horny you are that you can't hold yourself for a single day? What has my family done to deserve such disappointment?"
There was a stunned silence Kingsley wished to shut the siblings out but he had to hide his identity. He touched his mouth, looking down and away. Dazed at the situation.
Susanne almost tripped but she tried her best to stand as she watched agony rippled over Michael's face. In the five years sted known Micheal, he never shed a tear.
"So you tricked us all these years! How long have you been cheating on Micheal, Uh?"
About to meet Micheal, Cryst obstructed her and stopped her. A shivering breath broke out of her mouth with an agonized expression. "Those crocodile tears won't save you this time!"
Micheal walked out of the room, disappointed.
"No Micheal, don't leave!" Suzanne begged.
"Didn't go after him!" Cryst exclaimed. "As long as I'm the daughter of the Balogun family, I'll make sure you don't return let alone take advantage of any of my family members. I'll see how you solve this, you gold-digging slut and her boyfriend!" Cryst tore a glare from the both of them and slammed the four shut to their puzzled faces.
Suzanne's chest tightened with difficulty unfurled. The icy current that burned her steamed the remaining strength left in Susanne. In slow motion, her eyes closed as she paralyzed in Kingsley's arms.
"Susanne! My love. Kingsley pulled her to the bed. He grabbed a table of water and sprinkled a hand of it on her face. In a frown, she inhaled sharply and held unto Kingsley. A sob rose in her throat, and her eyes prickled with tears
Kingsley nudged his shoulder with hers. "It's okay." He picked out the wet hair from her face.
