CHAPTER 44

I take a sip of my margarita and lie back down on the beach chair by Tamara's pool. Sighing, I remember what she told me a few days ago. I still can't wrap my head around the fact that Beau will be married soon. Just the thought is hard for me to handle. It's enough to make me want to drink, which is why I had to come over to Tamara's, so I could do it without Dad eyeing me. I've been drinking more lately, and he worries.

"There's something I need to tell you," Tamara says as she steps out of the pool.

"I'm listening," I say, putting my drink down and sitting up.

"Harvey finally found out why Beau is behaving so strangely toward you."

"Really?" I ask, hope fluttering in my heart. Things might start making sense now.

Tamara nods and looks at me with pity in her eyes.

I wonder why, isn't this good news? "What did he say?"

"He hates you."

"What?" I ask, shocked.

"Beau hates you, and Harvey says Jenny is responsible for it."

"I don't understand."

"After Beau was discharged from the hospital, Jenny had him take memory classes."

"Memory classes? What are those?"

"So apparently, Beau hasn't truly recovered his memory. Jenny had him take these classes and memorize everyone important in his life. Harvey says she did it so that it would be easy for him to fit into society again."

"Oh my God! So that's why Beau claims to know me but treats me like a stranger." Jenny must have told Beau lies about me and made him think I'm a horrible person. I wonder what stories she made up.

"Yes. Harvey doesn't know exactly what Jenny told Beau about you, but he's sure it wasn't anything good."

"I can bet!" I lean back in my chair once more, taking all the information in. "It makes so much sense now why he called me a gold digger. That insult has Jenny written all over it."

"It does, and Harvey even tried telling Beau the truth, but nothing came of it."

"How come?"

"Beau doesn't remember you or your relationship, so telling him that his mother is lying doesn't change that. His feelings for you are just not there anymore."

"That's true, telling him the truth won't change much, but I could still try something. Beau and I have shared so many wonderful moments together. I bet one of them might be able to jog his memory."

"Yes, you guys do have a lot of history," Tamara agrees, then smiles. "There's no way you won't be able to make him remember the love he has for you."

"Hopefully I can, because if I don't, then I'll have a front-row seat to watch him marry someone else. Speaking of that, why is he still marrying Hannah?" I would've guessed it's because his mom told him he was in love with Hannah, but now that I know he doesn't believe Harvey because he doesn't remember his feelings for me, I wonder what other reason he could have for marrying her.

"I asked Harvey the same thing, but he doesn't know," Tamara answers.

"Hmm, yet another thing to figure out," I murmur.

The following day while at lunch with Camila, someone enters the restaurant and catches my eye. I stop eating and watch. Her blue eyes scan the room, stopping once she spots me. She smiles, her eyes shining with an evil glint, and approaches my table. The Louis Vuitton heels she's wearing click against the wooden floor as she walks.

"Hello, Delilah," she says, smirking devilishly.

"Hi, Hannah." I force a smile. What she is doing here?

"How're you?" She takes a seat beside me. Why the hell is she sitting down? I turn to face Camila and nod toward Hannah. She shrugs her shoulders in answer to my unspoken question.

"None of your business." I narrow my eyes at Hannah, trying to figure out her game. She must be here for a reason, since she hates my guts. Even if she never said it, her inviting me to her and Beau's engagement party was enough to tell me how she felt about me.

"I can't imagine what you're going through right now," she says, pouting.

My brows furrow in confusion. "What am I going through?"

"Heartbreak," she answers immediately.

"Oh." I wasn't expecting her to say that.

"You must be in a lot of pain." Pity shines in her eyes.

I can't believe it. She's here to gloat. I should've known, this is exactly her style.

"I'm fine," I say, keeping my expression indifferent. I'm far from that, but I'd never let her know it.

"You don't have to pretend. I'm here for you." Hannah pats my hand gently and gives me a reassuring smile.

I try to sound calm. "Hannah, I know you don't give two shits about me."

"I do so," she argues, and my face scrunches up in disgust. It's bad enough I have to deal with Beau marrying her, but now this, too? I wish she would leave me alone. Being around her only reminds me of what I can't have.

Then, her mask of pleasantness drops. "Jenny told me you're smarter than you look, and she's right. You didn't fall for my facade like you did last time." Hannah looks at her nails as she speaks, her whole demeanor changing.

"Only a fool would fall for it twice," I reply. "Now leave."

She looks me dead in the eyes. "Stay away from Beau."

"And if I don't?" I ask, folding my arms across my chest. It's funny that she thinks she can keep me away.

"Then you won't like what I'll do to you in retaliation."

"What could you possibly do to me, Hannah?" I doubt it could be worse than anything the Williams family has done.

"If you really want to know, then test me, and you'll see." She stands from the chair, picking up her Hermes purse. A feeling of disgust hits me as I realize it's the same kind I have, and apparently Jenny also has one. I really need to burn that thing now.

I look up at her and smile. "I can't wait. Goodbye, Hannah."

"Goodbye, Delilah." She puts on her shades and walks out of the restaurant.

After I get word from my driver that he's arrived, I make my way outside. The week has gone by so fast. It feels like just yesterday that I found out Beau was still engaged to Hannah. And now I'm on the way to the airport, so I can fly to Louisiana and stop the wedding.

I've come up with a plan for how I will help Beau recover his memory. That's the only good thing that happened this past week. Even though my plan isn't rock solid, I have hopes it might work.

Once I get outside, I notice everyone's there to see me off. I kiss Dad, who is against me going to Louisiana, goodbye. We all remember what happened the last time I was there. And even though I assured him nothing like that will happen again, he's still worried. I can't blame him. He lost his grandchild, and almost me as well in the process. I'm sure he blames himself to some extent for what happened, despite the fact that he couldn't have done anything to stop it.

Next, I move to kiss Camila and Axel goodbye before entering the car. I haven't told them yet about my idea for how to fix their problem. I realized I had to confirm some things first before I did. Hopefully, once I get Beau back, I'll also be done ironing out the details for that and can tell them.

The drive goes by quickly, and before I know it, the car is stopping in front of a private jet. Stepping out, I walk to the trunk to get my bags. Tamara and Harvey get out of the car beside mine, and I smile and wave. She waves and smiles back.

I hand my bag to one of the crew members as another car arrives. Hannah and Beau step out.

They don't know it yet, but we're all traveling to Louisiana together. It was Harvey's idea. He feels it will be a good place to corner Beau and try to jog his memory. While we're flying, he won't be able to run away from me.

I look at Beau, and my heart clenches. I watch his gray eyes widen but his shock quickly fades. He begins to come toward me but stops once his phone starts ringing. He walks away to answer it while Hannah approaches us.

"What the hell is she doing here?" Hannah asks Harvey, scowling.

"She's with me," Harvey answers. We had already planned for this reaction.

"I don't understand," Hannah says.

"I'm handling the catering for the wedding, and Delilah is one of my staff."

"One of your staff?" Hannah questions in disbelief.

Harvey shrugs. "Yes."

"She's an architect. How the hell is she one of your staff?"

"Yes, technically she's an architect," Tamara interrupts. "But as of today, Delilah is also my assistant."

"Oh my God! You guys can't be serious." Hannah laughs dryly.

"We are," Harvey and Tamara say at the same time.

"You guys are just looking for an excuse to get her into the wedding, so that she can stop it."

"No, she's only coming to help Tamara," Harvey says.

Hannah places her hands on her hips. "We both know that's a lie. She's not getting on this plane."

"If I'm remembering correctly," Harvey starts, "my family owns the jet. So, you don't get a say on who can or cannot fly on it."

"Harvey," Hannah says, through gritted teeth.

"Hannah." He matches her tone, smirking.

"Fine. Fuck all of you!" she yells before storming toward the plane.

Beau walks up to us. "Harvey, do you really think it's wise to bring Delilah?" he asks. Does he feel anything seeing me? I can't tell.

"I know you guys have a history, but that's in the past. Delilah understands you don't love her anymore and has moved on. She's only coming because Tamara needs her help with the wedding. You know they're best friends," Harvey explains.

"Hmm, alright." Beau nods and walks to the plane. It's clear that he doesn't buy our story, but he doesn't want to push the matter either.

"That went well," I say as Beau disappears into the plane.

"Let's pray the same thing happens when my aunt sees you," Harvey says, wrapping an arm around Tamara's waist. They walk toward the plane, and I follow.

"Jenny is going to want my head the second she sees me. I hope there are a lot of witnesses there so I can keep it," I say, chuckling.

"Hopefully so," Harvey replies, smiling.

I feel someone's gaze on me the minute I step into the plane. Looking around, I find a man with a pair of blue eyes similar to Hannah's staring at me. Who is he? He keeps staring even after I've caught him.

I take in the man's appearance, and his handsomeness transfixes me. His lovely lips are spread into a smile, and his chiseled jaw makes him even more alluring. But even with all that, Beau is still the only one on my mind—the most handsome man I've ever met.

Someone coughs, snapping me out of my trance. I expect it to be Tamara, but I'm shocked to see it's Beau. My eyes lock with his, and anger blazes in them for a split second before he looks away. Why is he mad?

"You should take your seats. The plane is about to take off," Beau says, avoiding eye contact with me.

"Sure." I take the only available seat, which happens to be beside the strange man.

"Hello, I'm Charles. Hannah's older brother." He extends his hand to shake mine. I look at it, shocked.

"Stay away from her, Charles. Delilah will con you out of all your money," Hannah says.

"Really, Hannah?" I snap. "My net worth is higher than yours if we take your family's money out of the equation."

"I'll pretend like you didn't just speak to me." She huffs and picks up a magazine. I smile and notice the side of Beau's lips tugging upwards. I wonder if he knows Hannah is only marrying him for his family's money.

"You're Delilah?" Charles asks. I turn to face him, and he looks shocked, probably because I'm the last person who should be here.

"Yes."

"My sister has spoken about how she wishes to burn you alive, though I'm sure it was an exaggeration. I can't believe you're here, and I must say you are much prettier than my sister described you." He stares, taking in every inch of me.

"That's not surprising and thank you for the compliment."

"It shouldn't be, knowing who you are to her fiancée, which leads me to my next question. Why are you coming to Louisiana with us? I doubt it's for the wedding."

"It is." I grin mischievously. "I'm coming along so I can stop it."

"You're joking," he chuckles.

It's the truth, but he doesn't know that. "We'll see." I pick up a magazine and begin to skim through the pages. I pray things go as planned, because if not, I'll have to watch the love of my life marry someone else. That would be a nightmare.
