🔵 Chapter 8 🔵

Grunting, Halilintar slowly opened his eyes, trying to adjust his eyes from the glaring light coming from the rays of the sun that was shone on his face through the window. After a few moments, his drowsy rubescent eyes glanced down and noticed his soft, red blanket wrapped around him, making him furrowed his brows in confusion. He couldn't remember what exactly had happened to him last night, so he tried recalling it from his mind, but it seems that he did kind of forgot what took place that midnight.

He only remembered that time when he had dinner with Taufan and his grandmother, then after that, they went straight to Taufan's room. He could still remember that Taufan was still asleep that time, and that he stayed up all night staring at the window, but he couldn't recall of stargazing with his blanket bundled up around him.

So, how come this happened? He thought, as his expression turned into a frown while trying to remember the event that happened next. Not to mention, he felt like he slept so comfortably last night.

But that midnight, he felt something warm. Warmer than the blanket that's wrapped around his body. It was a very comforting, gentle, and warm contact, but he doesn't even know what it is.

"What just happened...?" He mentally groaned, while his eyes wandered around the room. Then, his eyes fixed on Taufan's organized bed, with the latter seemed to be not around at this point.

He was probably the first one to wake up before him. He thought once more, before taking his blanket off him and got up where he'd been resting from. After refreshing himself up, he made his way downstairs, with his tummy grumbling for some food.

"Ah, Hali! You're awake! Good morning!" Taufan greeted, his eyes smiling at him while waving his hand slightly.

Suddenly, a boy with a green hoodie came out from the kitchen, his bewildered viridescent eyes staring at Halilintar as he froze for a moment from his spot.

"Wah—? I didn't know Halilintar's here! Is he going to live here with us?" Duri asked, a spark appeared from his emerald-coloured eyes.

"Temporarily." Taufan replied then giggled, with his twin brother joyously jumping in excitement.

'I forgot that they're brothers...' Halilintar thought, sighing softly before going to the dining table and took a seat afterwards.

"Oh yeah! You're actually right on time! Well, not really 'right on time' but, at least the food is waiting for you! We'd just finished eating our breakfast!" The wind elemental stated, sitting beside the grumpy teenager.

Halilintar only groaned, taking the box of cereal and milk on the table and poured it onto his bowl.

"Duri! Have you already eaten your breakfast?" Their grandmother asked, which the boy mentioned nodded in response.

Both the wind and lightning elemental were silent on the table, only clanking noise from the spoon can be heard. Then, Halilintar secretly took a glance at the boy beside him, his eyes narrowing at the mask he's wearing everyday. He kept questioning himself how does he even eat with his mask on, and why does he need to wear his mask, even when he's at home, and even when he's about to sleep.

He could still remember that time when they had dinner together, but he forgot to take a quick glance at him on how he even ate his food with his mask on because he was too shy that time, so his eyes were only focused down on his meal. Unfortunately, Taufan caught the teen staring at him, which made the latter looked away immediately while blushing in embarrassment. The wind elemental laughed gleefully from his amusing and adorable action, making the flustered boy to feel embarrass even more.

"You're still wondering why I'm wearing mask, huh?" Taufan chuckled. "Haven't I told you already? It's because I wanted to look cool~" He said, grinning. "Like you."

"That's not true!" Halilintar exclaimed, letting go of the spoon he's holding.

"Oh? So you're saying you're not 'cool'?"

"Stop teasing me already!"

"Fan-Fan, dear. Let him eat in peace." The grandmother admonished.

"I'd rather see him flustered in peace~"

"I'd rather see you rot in piece, airhead." Halilintar spat, his teeth clenched tightly. Why does my 'peaceful' morning have to start with this airhead's relentless, annoying behaviour? He thought.

The grandmother could only sigh in defeat, hoping the boys can finally tone down later on.

[Halilintar's POV]

Despite the airhead's stupidness, I still found it comfortable here, compared when I'm living in my real home. Though I'm not in my real home, I feel like I'm home. I'm honestly glad that airhead's grandmother welcomed me with open arms, and it really gives me that warm feeling I've been longing for a long time.

Speaking of grandmother, I'm wondering where his parents are since, I only see his grandmother staying at home. It's weekend today and usually, families get to be together during this week, well... except for mine. Maybe they are still working? Or maybe working from another country? Or maybe they just... don't have enough time?

I wonder what it would be like to spend some quality time with my parents. I really can't imagine myself bonding with them because... we never really did. The only thing they know, is to argue with each other non-stop, and sometimes, they're forgetting about me... or probably, they already have.

I'd already suffered too much from my childhood days back then, why would they have to add that burden more? As much as I want to move on, it's just so hard to forget about everything I've been going through. Why can't I live my life with freedom for once?

I'm currently seated on the tip of the roofing of the house, watching the serenity of the nature from afar. Don't even ask how I even got here in the first place. I love doing dangerous stuffs, especially climbing at the highest peaks of every houses, apartments, or even buildings.

"Of all places, I knew you would be here. You really like it when you're in bird's-eye view." All of the sudden, the airhead came out of nowhere, which I only ignored him because I'd already expected that this idiot will be looking for me, and will eventually find me here.

"You didn't even invite me to watch the view together!" He whined, making me roll my eyes off him.

"Oh, still with the silent treatment, eh?" The airhead smirked, and climbed to sit beside me afterwards. I swear I could just push him from here so he could fall off, but why can't I do it?

"Don't forget I still have the picture~ So you better talk, or I'll treasure this forever!~" He cooed, giggling cheekily. Ah, fudge me. I forgot about that stupid photo he took from his cellphone.

"You're freaking annoying, really." I grouched, turning my attention to the view instead. "Why can't you just leave me alone? In peace? Are you that dumb to know what 'space' means?"

"I thought you said you don't want me to leave you?"

"Since when did I ever said that?!"

Suddenly, I saw the airhead's eyes widened in surprise, while looking at me in disbelief. My brows furrowed in confusion as to why he reacted that way. Is it something from what I said?

"You... You don't remember...?" He asked, which made me frowned even more.

"You really don't, do you?"

What the heck is he talking about? What does he freaking mean that I don't remember? It's not like I promised something to him or anything... right?

"You... Nevermind. It's not like you're going to remember about it anyway..." He immediately refused to tell me, shaking his head afterwards.

But, I'm curious. I wanna know about it. Even if it takes me years to remember it...

"Tell me..." I unexpectedly uttered. "... please."

I heard him sighed deeply, before facing me with a reluctant look.

"That midnight, you mentioned to me about your... old friend." He stated, while staring at the cerulean blue sky. "You told me how important he is to you until, he suddenly vanished from this world. I saw how broken you were. I saw how sensitive you were when it comes to losing someone who's important to you. I heard the desperation from your voice, and makes me feel torn on the inside. That's when I couldn't take it anymore. I immediately embraced you, telling you that you're not alone in this cruel world."

Now, everything's coming back to me. I'm starting to remember everything that had happened last night. Now, everything's makes sense. But there's something missing, and it's making me question one thing: What's making this airhead accompany me wherever I go?

"Well, I guess that's all I could say to you." The airhead stated, as he stretched his arms out.

"But, I feel like it's lacking something..." I mumbled, frowning.

"I'm pretty sure I told you everything that can help you remember that midnight." He confidently said, chuckling lightly afterwards.

I frown deepened. I swear something is missing. Is he trying to hide it from me, or did he truly told me 'everything' that had happened last night? Now I'm starting to doubt my trust to this idiot. I hope he's saying the truth, if not, I don't even know if I could still believe him.

I kept silent as we continued gazing at the scenery infront of us. This is one of the reason why I love viewing from high places. I'm glad that I'm not afraid of heights since, I hate to admit but, I love adventure. It has always been my favourite thing to do. It's making me taste the feeling of freedom.

Staring at the view alone has always been so peaceful. But then, this airhead came along, and somehow... it made me feel relieved. I can have someone to talk with when I'm venting out my feelings. Everything about him, he is irritating, and at the same time, he is patient, and very gentle with me. He's really... like Gempa.

Then, something came up in my mind. One thing I'm so curious about. One thing I've been questioning lately. One thing I've been meaning to ask to him.

"I was wondering..." I hesitantly spoke. "... Where are your parents...?"

The airhead paused. Suddenly, I noticed the shadows covered his dull eyes. Shoot, did I triggered him too hard?

I instantly panicked. "I-I'm sorry! I didn't mean to—"

"It's okay." He replied right away, turning his head to look at me and I have a feeling that he's smiling weakly underneath his blue mask. "Since you asked, I guess... I can tell you. It's not bad to ask, right?"

"But, I feel like it's too personal for you."

All of the sudden, he smirked at me. "So you do care about me afterall, huh?" He teased, making me blushed in embarrassment.

"S-Shut up! I just think that it's a tactful topic to talk about!"

The idiot then chuckled slightly. "You're really cute when you're flustered." He laughed cheekily, before sighing heavily.

"Well, both of my parents passed away. My dad was a soldier, and he died during a war, while my mom was a hero since she sacrificed herself from saving some people from a destructive disaster. If there's anything I learned from them, it's knowing how to be selfless, learning how to fight back, and being willing to never give up." He stated.

"... I'm sorry..." I softly apologized.

"You don't need to be sorry. I feel proud for them actually. I truly learned a lot from them, and that is, even though you're dealing with something you think it's impossible to overcome it, eventually you'll win from it. Though sometimes it needs a sacrifice, but it's not just a sacrifice, it's a compassionate act that you're willing to do what it takes for someone, or something." He added, with his face begins to brighten up.

This airhead is really... amazing. It's the only thing I can describe about him. If I'm certain about anything, he is the one, who I can look up to.

"Also, you're not the only one who's suffering in this world, Hali..." The blue-masked airhead placed a hand on my shoulder, while looking at me with his cyan-blye eyes filled with assurance. "You should feel happy, and be contented as well!"

"Not everyone can feel happiness as much as you do. You know that I've been going through a lot lately." I muttered, lowering my head down gloomily afterwards. I then felt his hand tightened its grip slightly from my shoulder, causing me to look up at him.

"Then, let me help you feel that at least..."
