*Y/N POV*

It's been a week after the whole disaster happened. Me and Ryuko, together with Hiro and Zero Two were frequently asked by most of Squad 13 about what a kiss is and how does it feel. One particular blonde boy was even too curious.

Ryuko: "I just hope he does not try again with Miku"

(Y/N): "He will and it will end like with previous three times... I mean they match each other but they don't understand it"

Ryuko: "Hey, Jakuzure and Sanageyama got together, so they can too" I laughed

(Y/N): "Yeah... the rest of our crazy incomprehensible pack"

Ryuko: "I miss them too, especially Sats and Koru. I wish they were here with us here"

We turned the corner to see Goro standing by the window

(Y/N): "Hey Goro. What is so interesting outside" I looked over his shoulder to see Ikuno and Ichigo sitting on the steps, playing with cat

Ryuko: "So, you too Goro?"

Goro just sighed and turned to us

Goro: "Seems like it" Then Futoshi screamed

Futoshi: "Guys! They are here!" We walked down to the lounge to see a lot of presents

Ryuko: "Wow, Christmas already?"

(Y/N): "We are her for about one and a half months. When we arrived it was November so seems like it"

Goro started to give everyone their presents. We looked around. Ikuno got some new books. Kokoro got a makeup kit. Miku was sniffing her new perfume. Mitsuru got a fancy pen, Zorome got a new ball while Futoshi got some rare snacks. Goro is checking out his new fishing rods while scolding Ichigo about asking for stuffed animal. 

Hiro then walk over to us with two boxes in hand

Hiro: "(Y/N), Ryuko, those two are for you"

(Y/N): "Thanks, but we didn't asked for anything" I opened the box to see it was my old laptop. "Wow, I mean why?" I took a letter from the bottom of the box "'(L/N), I send you your laptop. I upgraded it to help you two in your mission. On it you will find schematics of every FranXX of Squad 13 as well as some more useful information. It was your uncle's idea by the way. He said 'He will make better use of it than those geezers from APE' Greet Matoi from me. Sincerely, Inumuta' Hey, Ryuko..." I looked at her, she had some tears in her eyes "Hey, what... oh..." I looked at what she was holding. It was a picture of us and our parents, sitting happily on the porch of Matoi's mansion

Ryuko: "I...I...*sniff*"

(Y/N): "Shh, my Blueberry." I hugged her from the side "I'm missing my mom and uncle Soichiro too. When we will get nearby old Tokyo we will visit them"

Ryuko: "Y-You think it still standing?"

(Y/N): "Their graves? I hope so. If not I will make another one" she wiped tears away

Ryuko: "Thanks (Y/N), what did you wanted to say"

(Y/N): "Inumuta send me my old laptop. He got schematics of every FranXX there. I hope my music is still there..."

Ryuko: "Only this?"

(Y/N): "He also wrote to greet you" We walked over to Hiro and zero Two

Hiro: "...and we'll get them on a particular day" Zero looked down to see Hiro is holding some encyclopedia on birds

Zero Two: "Hmm... what's that? A picture book?"

Hiro: "Oh, nah. This is an illustrated guide. Do you like picture books? I think we have some in the study"

Zorome: "Okay, listen up! I'm gonna read Papa's message! Ahem. Er... 'Boys and girls, your numerous accomplishments represent a ray of hope, a harbinger of peace and prosperity for mankind. Glory be to you noble parasites, who risk your lives for us.' Hear that?" Me, Ryuko and Zero Two stood there unimpressed, while Squad 13 look excited by the letter from 'geezers'

'Oh my god, it was even stronger propaganda than in former Soviet Russia, or well, now former North Korea'

*timeskip*

Later during the day I was walking around the house. I spotted Hiro giving something to Zero Two, making her extremely happy. I smile at her antics. I look up to see  Ichigo with her hand down and Goro next to her. I decided I saw enough and walked up. I walk around for a while until I decided it's time to bed. On a way to my room I spotted Ryuko walking towards me. We stopped next to each other"

(Y/N): "Goodnight babe"

Ryuko: "Goodnight honey, I love you" I kissed her forehead

(Y/N): "I love you too"

I turned the corner and saw Hiro was about to enter

(Y/N): "You know, you did a right thing"

Hiro: "Huh?"

(Y/N): "That present for Zero. She was so happy" he blushed

Hiro: "You saw?! Oh man..." 

 (Y/N): "Hehe, you are a good man Hiro" I put a hand on his shoulders and we entered the room.

Goro was lying on his bed staring at an object in his hand. He get his attention from it to you

Goro: "They you two are. It's time for bed"

(Y/N): "Sorry, I was saying a goodnight to Ryuko"

Hiro: "And I was saying a goodnight to Zero Two"

Goro: "I didn't know she smiled that way with you, Hiro"

Hiro: "The heck? You were watching too?"

Goro: "Sorry"

Hiro continued to dry his hair while I just get up to my bed and lie down. Hiro walked over to Goro

Hiro: "Isn't that Ichigo's..."

Goro: "Yeah. The same type of hair clip" I looked down to see it's indeed the same hair clip Ichigo have "But this one I tried and failed to give her a long time ago. Remember when I told you I didn't understand this 'love' thing you guys talk about? But (Y/N) told me and Ichigo what it means. That the other person is special to you" They turned to me and I just nodded "You've always been Ichigo's hero. That's special, right?"

Hiro: "Where is all this coming from?"

Goro: "I think she feels the same way about you as you do about Zero Two, or (Y/N) do about Ryuko"

Hiro: "The same?"

Goro: "Like, you know, that she wants to know you better, be more with you and uh... do that kiss thing with you" Hiro then jump in surprise, while I and Goro laugh a little

(Y/N): "Haha. Really Hiro? I thought you saw how she always clinge to you"

Goro: "You really hadn't noticed?"

Hiro: "W-Wait, doesn't that mean you...?" Goro cut him off

Goro: "I know everything. I know what makes her laugh, and what makes her cry... But none of them would work for me. (Y/N), you know what I'm talking about"

(Y/N): "Yeah, and sorry. I know it's hard"

Hiro: "Can any of you explain what's going on?"

(Y/N): "Goro loves Ichigo"

Hiro: "He... loves Ichigo...?"

Goro: "Yeah, I know it's weird. But watching how you act with Zero Two and how (Y/N) and Ryuko are always together, either hugging or talking and smiling, it made my own feeling clear to me. It helped me realize that I love Ichigo" he smiled an stretched later. "Whew. Glad I got this from my chest. Time to sleep" after that he lied down on his bed. I meanwhile get a comfy position and try to sleep. Some time later Hiro get my attention

Hiro: "Hey (Y/N), you are awake?" he whispered

(Y/N): "Yeah, what do you want Hiro?"

Hiro: "I want to ask you something"

(Y/N): "About?"

Hiro: "Love"

(Y/N): " I thought you already know. But go ahead"

Hiro: "Back at the beach, Zero Two told me that I should only kiss a person I truly love. Like you and Ryuko do"

(Y/N): "That's right. I love her and she loves me. So where are you going with this?"

Hiro: "What does is means to love someone?" I get near the edge of the bed and hang upside down to meet with Hiro

(Y/N): "Hmm, it's hard to answer, everyone get it in a different way"

Hiro: "Let me ask again, what does that mean to you to love Ryuko?"

(Y/N): "Let me think about it for a while... When I get near her I instantly get a smile on my face. When I look at her my heart beats faster every time, she is my everything. And if I were to lose her I don't know what would happen to me. I can not imagine my life without her"

Hiro: "So that..." I cut him off

(Y/N): "To love someone is to care about them. It's to sacrifice your own health in order to keep them save. It's to do everything you have in your power to make them smile. It's to have a person you can talk about everything without worry. That's what I personally thing is love"

Hiro: "Thanks for being honest with me (Y/N)"

(Y/N): "No problem bud. Now time to hit the hay" I get back on my bed and turn around. When everything quiet down I heard a sharp breath

'Oh fuck, you better don't do something stupid, Goro'

*next day, briefing room*

Hachi: "We've detected a Gutenberg class klaxosaur at a distance approximately 2000 from here."

Nana: "It's moving slowly, but judging from it's course, we predict it'll make contact with the plantation. We must avoid a repeat of the previous attack at all costs"

Squad 13: "Yes, ma'am"

Nana: "Also, the target is a long way away this time. Your units have been loaded with more fuel than usual, so make a note of that"

Soon after that we went to our FranXXs and rushed out

Genista: "Look, there's a huge thundercloud"

(Y/N): "Be careful. We are in open area. Our FranXXs will work as one giant lighting rod"

We stopped and saw something emerging from the thundercloud

Hiro: "What is that?"

Hachi: "Target sighted. All units, prepare for combat"

Argentea: It's kinda gross"

Zorome: "All right! Argentea going off!"

Heliconia: "No you idiots!" Argentea rushed it only to get tied by it's tentacles. when she get free some balloons behind her explode

Delphinium: "What?! Explosions?"

Goro: "This isn't good"

(Y/N): "You don't say. It's a motherfucking Gutenberg!" Argentea then get's from the ground and looks back to the klaxosaur

Zorome: "Hey, the core's right there. Gotcha!" Argentea boosted towards the core

Goro and (Y/N): "You idiot! Don't!" She tried to hit the core, but bounced right off. Then those black bubbles started to surround her

Zorome: "What is up with this thing?"

Argentea: "I can't move"

Heliconia: "Damn it!"

Goro: "No!" Heliconia and Delphinium rushed this Klaxosaur. We managed to free Argentea but it get Delphinium stuck now"

Heliconia: "Ichigo, grab my hand!" she tried to 

Delphinium: "I can't move!" then it started sparking around her

(Y/N): "Fucking shit! Everyone get away! It's going to explode!"

Delphinium: "Ryuko! (Y/N)!" We still try to get Delphinium out of it, but it explodes, sending us back

Squad 13: "Ryuko! (Y/N)! Goro! Ichigo!"

I opened my eyes to see Ryuko panting

(Y/N): "You alright?"

Ryuko: "It hurt as hell, but thanks to our regeneration I'm good"

(Y/N): "How is Heliconia?" I opened diagnostics "Hmm, some minor armor damage" I then radioed the rest "Squad 13, this is Heliconia, everyone is safe?"

Hiro: "(Y/N), Ryuko, you okay?"

(Y/N): "Yup. What about the rest? What about Goro and Ichigo?"

Genista: "We are good... oh no..."

Me and Ryuko connected back and looked around only to see... that klaxosaur is still walking towards plantation and Delphinium is inactive inside of it

Heliconia: "Shit..."

(Y/N): '"Ichigo, Goro, status report" I was met with nothing

Heliconia: "Right before it exploded I saw an escape pod going from Delphinium"

(Y/N): "Guys, search for a white egg shaped pod" after a several minutes of searching Strelitzia said something

Strelitzia: "I found it"

(Y/N): "Good" Then Hachi radioed us

Hachi: "Squad 13, return to the plantation"

(Y/N): "No can do Hachi, Delphinium is still inside that thing"

Hiro: "We need to save them! "

Hachi: "That was an order, 004, 016"

Hiro: "Yes sir" with that we started walking back

(Y/N): "Fucking, fucking, fucking, fucking, fuck!" I said after making Heliconia punch the ground

Heliconia: "What's going on (Y/N)?"

(Y/N): "It's my fault. Hiro asked me what is it to love someone. We thought Goro was asleep. He must've heard that and tried to protect Ichigo"

Heliconia: "Don't be so hard on yourself. You would do the same"

(Y/N): "The worst part is you are right" We walked back to the hanger. 

Strelitzia put down the pod and everyone get to their dock. I rushed out of Heliconia. When I get down I opened the pod to see unconscious Ichigo

(Y/N): "Medics!" Then a group of paramedics come and took Ichigo to infirmary. Meanwhile we walk to briefing room and after entering I punch a wall nearby, leaving a hole

Futoshi: "Woah... (Y/N)... calm down"

(Y/N): "I was supposed to be your second in command. And what do I do. I leave one of my squad members behind. And to make it worse, Goro did it to protect Ichigo. He did it because he heard me and Hiro talking last night. It's my fault he is stuck there" Hiro walked over to me

Hiro: "It's not. (Y/N), you know us two would do it too if it was either Strelitzia or Heliconia."

(Y/N): "I know... and it's the worst" He put a hand on my shoulder

Hiro: "That's who we are"

(Y/N): "Thanks bud. Right now we need a plan to get Goro and Delphinium out of there" Hiro nodded. We walked further in the room towards computer and monitors

(Y/N): "Any news, Mitsuru?"

Mitsuru: "I noticed a weak signal from Delphinium. There is a chance we can contact with him"

(Y/N): "So what are we waiting for? Let's do it" after several minutes and some problems we finally get through

Hiro: "Goro"

(Y/N): "Goro, you idiot"

Goro: "Hiro?! (Y/N)?!"

Hiro: "Thank goodness. We finally get through to you"

Goro: "Is Ichigo okay?"

(Y/N): "She is still unconscious after you ejected her from Delphinium. From what I saw when I opened the pod she is alright"

Hiro: "She is getting treated along with Zorome and Miku"

Goro: "Oh... good. Can any of you contact recovery team? I kinda can't pilot this thing alone" at this me and Hiro deadpanned. "Guys?" We looked at each other and nodded

(Y/N): "Goro, promise me you will not freak out"

Goro: "Why should I?"

Hiro: "You are still inside the klaxosaur right now"

Goro: "We didn't kill it...?"

(Y/N): "No. When it exploded it swallowed Delphinium"

Hiro: "Soon after that we were ordered to retreat, so we are back at the plantation for now"

Goro: "So that's what happened..." Then Futoshi get to us

Futoshi: "But we'll figure something out, so don't worry!"

Goro: "Got it. I'll try to figure out what I can do, too"

(Y/N): "Goro... We are so sorry... I should have disobeyed and get you out of there"

Goro: "Don't worry. Anyway, I'm wasting power here, so I'm gonna switch to safe mode for a bit"

Hiro: "All right. We will get in touch again" we ended the call

Ikuno: "You can't utilize a FranXX's magma energy without its pistil"

Kokoro: "You mean..."

Mitsuru: "Don't worry. FranXX are programmed to run their life support systems on backup power"

Zero Two: "Then he'll die if it runs out"

Ryuko: "Zero, be quiet, you are not helping"

Zero Two: "Does it matter? As things stand, this plantation and all of us will go boom" Then we door open and in storms a very angry Ichigo with Miku and Zorome right behind her

Miku: "You should still be in bed!"

Ichigo: "What's all this about Goro getting swallowed by the klaxosaur?" she turned to me and Ryuko "You two were in command when I was unconscious. Where is Goro?"

'Whatever I say will not be enough'

(Y/N): "..."

Ichigo: "Well! I'm waiting!"

Ryuko: "We were ordered to retreat" after that she went to Ryuko and slapped her

Ichigo: "And what! You two just get your tails behind your legs and run away?! I heard Reapers were supposed to be fearless! You two are just cowards!" I looked over to Ryuko, she get her head down and... started sobbing. Ichigo then went to me "And you! Huh?" She looked over to Ryuko

Ryuko: "Y-You know, I-Ichigo. N-Normally I would just gut you where you stand... B-but I changed... W-We were sent here to h-help you, not to kill any of you..." She looked up and hugged herself to my chest

(Y/N): "And you are our leader? Ichigo, get your shit together. You let your emotions get better of you. If you wanted to hit someone, you should have hit me. Ryuko didn't gave any orders. And Goro did it to save you"

Ichigo: "Save me? This idiot. He cut me loose. He knows he is helpless by himself"

Miku: "You are so annoying. Don't you realize that Goro is always looking out for you?"

Ichigo: "What?"

Miku: "Like that time Hiro almost died. You broke down immediately! And who do you think got you back on your feet? "

Ichigo: "What gives you the right to run your mouth at me?"

Miku: "I'm not done. You went in here and started blaming Ryuko and (Y/N) for something they had no control! You even slapped the poor girl when she didn't do anything wrong! If you want to blame someone, blame me and Zorome! We were the ones stuck there! You are our leader, start acting like one!"

Then Nana entered 

Nana: "Ryuko, you alright?" Ryuko nodded with her head still buried in my chest "Miku, Ichigo, that's enough"

Hachi: "Good, you are all here" We went to stand in front of them. I looked back to see Miku and Zero Two putting their hands on Ryuko's shoulder and giving her reassuring smile. Ryuko get the tears away and smiles back

Hachi: "Analysis of the samples stuck on your units showed that it's a klaxosaur that vaporizes it's bodily fluids to expand and explode"

Kokoro: "You mean Goro is stuck in its fuel right now?" she asked with worry

Nana: "Relax. Fortunately, the part that Delphinium jumped into has been confirmed to be harmless to FranXX" 

Zorome: "Then I guess we rescue Goro first. I owe him one, after all"

(Y/N): "You sure do. If you hadn't rushed in we could have avoided this situation"

Hachi: "Our top priority is preventing the target from making contact with the plantation." This shocked everyone, especially me and Ryuko "Estimated time of contact is approximately one hour from now. We will set up a last line of defense and eliminate the klaxosaur before it crosses that line"

Futoshi: "What if we can't eliminate it by then?"

Hachi: "In that case, the plantation will open fire, as well. To protect itself, the target will use its internal fuel and explode several times. As long as we launch enough strikes, there is a chance one of them will finish it."

Hiro: "Are you saying you will leave Goro to die?!"

Nana: "In the worst case scenario..." I cut her off

(Y/N): "No..."

Nana: "(Y/N)?" she asked surprised

(Y/N): "I will not leave him behind. Me and Ryuko swore to protect everyone in this squad when we become second in command. I have failed him once before, and now I will get him back even if I have to pay the biggest price!"

Ryuko: "And you have nothing to say about it Nana. You too Hachi. We were stupid to follow your order to retreat" Ichigo turned to Ryuko

Ichigo: "Ryuko..."

(Y/N): "And only after we get Goro back, we will deal with this klaxosaur. So you two better stand aside and let us do the work" Nana and Hachi stood there stunned

Ryuko: "If that's all. Squad 13, operation 'Rescue Goro' is in motion. We will give you details soon" Nana sighed. She and Hachi exited the room

(Y/N): "Okay. We will probably get some punishment for this little rebellion act, but saving Goro is more important. As we know, Delphinium is inside the klaxosaur's fuel reserve. Her boosters should be enough to get her out of there. All we need to do is to get Ichigo to Goro"

Hiro: "But how? Anyone have any idea?" We discus this for some time

Zorome: "Maybe we can get other FranXX inside?"

Ryuko: "We will risk another explosion. Not a chance"

Futoshi: "He used some escape pod to launch Ichigo out. Maybe he can do it too. Sure, we will lose Delphinium..."

(Y/N): "Problem is every FranXX have only one capsule. I could be used for either stamen or pistil"

Futoshi: "Damn..."

We continue the discussion for some time. Meanwhile Ichigo was talking with Goro

Ichigo: "Goro"

Goro: "Ichigo? Thank goodness! You came to!"

Ichigo: "You idiot! What were you thinking, getting yourself swallowed whole?! Why do you always put yourself second like this? How are you going to get out of there without me?" Her voice cracked and I saw some tears coming from her eyes "You've always been like this! Always making selfish decisions, and always coming back hurt!"

Ryuko: "That sound familiar..."

(Y/N): "Shut up... I protected you back there"

Ichigo: "Why don't you lean on me a little? I'll save you... I'll save you no matter what... So wait for me!"

Goro: "Ichigo... Are you crying?"

Ichigo: "Shut up"

Goro: "It's all right, Ichigo. I came up with a plan. I'm going to kill this thing and come home to you. So don't worry" this raised a red flag in my mind

'How is he... no... he is not stupid to use it...'

Ichigo: "Kill it? How?"

Goro: "Can't waste any more power. I'm gonna hang up"

(Y/N): "Goro! Don't you dare!" but our call ended

Ichigo: "(Y/N), what is he planning to do?!"

(Y/N): "You will not like the answer. And I don't want you to slap anyone else" Ichigo looked at Ryuko

Ichigo: "Ryuko... I'm sorry..."

Ryuko: "..."

Ichigo: "Please... I need to know!" she begged

(Y/N): "He is planning to use self destruction..." This shocked everyone

Ichigo: "He what?!"

Hiro: "Then we don't have much time. (Y/N), how long does it takes to self destruct a FranXX?"

(Y/N): "If he started it right after his talk with Ichigo, we have about 25-30 minutes until Delphinium's reactor meltdown"

Hiro: "Dammit! We need ideas!" then Zero Two spoke

Zero Two: "There was one spot. There was an exhaust hole, of sorts, on top of the klaxosaur. Someone could probably get in there if they tried"

Ichigo: "I will do it" She looked back at me, Ryuko and Hiro "Can you get me to him?"

(Y/N): "Ichigo, you think you can do it?"

Ryuko: "If yes, then be our guest. But you still own me one for that slap"

Ichigo: "Alright, lets go"

*le small timeskip*

(Y/N): "Genista, Chlorophytum, you two stay behind. You will act like as fire backup and land markers. If this thing gets through you, Hachi will turn on the turrets and then we are toasted"

Chlorophytum and Genista: "Roger"

Ichigo: "Good" she said from Strelitzia's hand

Heliconia: "Ichigo, you know you have to swim through this thing's fuel to get to Delphinium, right?"

(Y/N): "You remember this acid from week before? If it's the same thing then it will destroy your suit and even melt your body"

Ichigo: "But there is a chance, right?"

Strelitzia: "Who knows? I wouldn't do it if I were you"

Hiro: "Hey, Zero Two!" He scold her"

Ichigo: "But I will. I believe in you, Zero Two!" Strelitzia smiled

Strelitzia: "I don't dislike this sort of thing"

Heliconia: "Tea, in position!"

Argentea: "Right" Heliconia and Argentea get their hands intertwined and awaits for Strelitzia. She get a running star, and right before she collide with us, she jumps right onto Heliconia's and Argentea's hands. We boost her up and she used her boosters to get on top of klaxosaur

(Y/N): "Zero Two, Hiro, status"

Hiro: "Ichigo is in"

(Y/N): "Good, now get down here" Strelitzia jumped down and stands next to Heliconia. We started rushing back to Genista and Chlorophytum, trying to slow down this klaxosaur.

Argentea: "It's Genista and Chlorophytum!"

Chlorophytum: "There'll be trouble if it crosses this line!"

Genista: "It'll be fine. Believe in Ichigo"

Hiro: "Ichigo, Goro, you there?!"

(Y/N): "Heliconia to Delphinium. You guys here? Respond" I was met with silence. "Strelitzia, we need..." Just as I was about to order attack, Delphinium shots out from klaxosaur's exhaust hole

Hiro: "They are out!"

Heliconia: "Fuck yeah! Argentea, grab her!"

Zorome: "Right away!"

Goro: "Everyone, get the hell out of here!"

Argentea: "Huh?"

Goro: "Hurry!"

(Y/N): "You heard the man! Retreat!" I activated Heliconia's boosters and rocketed back past Genista and Chlorophytum. Soon the klaxosaur explodes and we are all pushed back. Heliconia got back up

Heliconia: "Team, status"

Genista: "It kinda hurts, but I'm alive"

Hiro: "We are okay"

Miku: "We only got disconnected, nothing else"

Chlorophytum: "Same as Strelitzia"

(Y/N): "Goro? Ichigo?"

Goro: "Yeah, we are okay"

(Y/N): "You need a medic?"

Ichigo: "Goro got some bruises but I got him"

(Y/N): "Okay" We deactivated Heliconia nearby Delphinium and walk out to see Goro and Ichigo hugging

Ryuko: "You think he told her?"

(Y/N): "He sure did"

Ryuko: "Day after day they are growing up to be our future. I can see now what your uncle saw in them. This is really some fucked up rollercoaster of emotions"

(Y/N): "They are like us, incomprehensible" Ryuko leaned on me

Ryuko: "They are" Then Goro shouted

Goro: "Hey! (Y/N)! Ryuko!"

(Y/N): "What's up bro?!"

Goro: "Don't kill Ichigo! She didn't meant to slap Ryuko!" he joked

Ryuko: "I will throw some pillows at her tonight as a revenge! Get ready, Strawberry!"

Ichigo: "Don't call me that! And you are on, Blueberry!"

Me and Goro laughed. Soon girls joined us. I suddenly stopped laughing

(Y/N): "You are still in trouble for that self destruction, Goro" and I started laughing again

Goro: "Huh?" We laugh at this even more while Goro had a mix of shock and afraid  on his face

'Oh my God. Last time I had such quality time was when I was fighting with Sanageyama. Heh, hope you guys are awake by now'

*Dr. Franxx's facility, 3rd POV*

Satsuki: "Mr. Werner, are you sure this is necessary?"

Dr.Franxx: "If we want our earth back, we need to"

Koruno: "We know, but isn't it kinda risky to go there?"

Inumuta: "And we don't have to. We will send the drone to her, with our offer"
