Chapter 6
I kept on crying for a long time and the sobbing sound from my tears echoed in the dull silence that prevailed after the intense scenes from earlier that had now subsided and thereafter it was time to return back to the school.
Professor Saltsman briefed the others about the happenings that took place throughout the rescue mission. And everyone expressed their regret in the inability to protect someone or rather of the loss of a person. James, who had waited for so long to reunite with his sister, after getting the news broke down into tears, he kept on crying even as we were gathering everyone and instructing them to get on the cars.
I, seeing Lily's reflection in him, held him tight and we both kept on crying. It was only after an hour or so, that he calmed down and I too picked him up in an embrace and we climbed inside the car and all of us were now ready to return back.
The journey back to the school was a quiet one. Professor Alex, took the initiative to drive the car where I along with James and the girl we had rescued were in. While in the other car, there was Hope along with the rescued boy and Professor S., who was driving the car.
I just stared outside the car window and looked in the pitch darkness that had crept in as the night advanced, and beside me was James, who had drifted off to dreamland as he had tired himself out from crying too much.
Along the way, Prof. A contacted the ones who were in the school to prepare extra rooms which had been built for those who were to be rescued so these were kinda like refugee facilities.
It was only around 5 A.M in the morning when we finally reached the school premises. Lizzie along with Jo, were waiting for us at the entrance. Prof. A stopped the car and instructed us to climb down. James was still sound asleep, occasionally whimpering as if witnessing a nightmare, so I just picked him up in my arms after climbing down the car. The girl in the backseat also climbed down and the others too came out of their respective cars.
When Lizzie saw me she just faintly smiled, and I too smiled in a weak manner. And everyone seemed fatigued from the occurrences that had taken place throughout the mission.
Thereafter, all the rescued children were taken to the dorms with Jo, acting as their guide. While Lizzie gave a tight hug to Prof. S, who seemed to be just relieved to return beside his beloved daughters. Hope, called it a day and retired in an early fashion.
While I just took James to the dorms, where I tucked him inside the sheets. This entire mission had seriously been a tiring one. With me, ending up as a complete failure of a promise keeper. The scene kept on replaying in my mind, making me angry at my own helplessness but now it was time to interrogate the ones who were the main targets for the rescue mission itself.
The interrogation was carried out by Milton and Leo, and it was thereafter found out that, the boy's name was Louis Volturi while the girl's name was Amaira Wolfgang, and one of them was a vampire while the other was a witch respectively.
After the interrogation, since everyone was tired, they called it a day and everyone went back to their dorms. But I did not. Instead of going to sleep, I put on my joggers and jacket and went out in the woods for a run. The morning dew was chilling and felt piercing against my skin and brushed through the air. Even though we were successful in rescuing the targetted people, my first mission was not at all a success. My arrogance of being powerful seemed to have made me overconfident and the outcome was crystal clear. It was my fault.
With all the negative thoughts engulfing me in entirety, I kept on running for about and hour and I don't know what came to me that suddenly I started screaming. I screamed, I yelled, I cried. My entire self seemed to be saddened to the core from the incident that had taken place. I started brawling, and I don't know when or how I reached the dorms, but one thing was for sure, I needed to get stronger to protect the ones who are dear to me. This incident was indeed an awakening moment for me.

It was around 11 A.M in the morning when I woke up. My whole body was aching and it felt sticky all over as it seemed, after running, I just came back and slept. Didn't even take a shower. Ugh... I felt gross. So, I took my towel and went to the showers to take a bath. My head was throbbing from all the thinking hard and crying stuff, but now, it seemed I had finally calmed down. Because, even if someone dies, it was natural that the ones left behind needed to move on, they needed to keep the memories of their loved ones alive within themselves and get stronger to keep on living, and this could be the highest respect that a person left behind could give to the ones who had left us.
And that being the case, I was now determined to start in a fresh manner.
After taking a shower, I put on a casual tank top with shorts and went out of the room. I was now getting hungry since I had not eaten anything for a long time now so I headed to the dining hall. There, I saw that Hope and the others were also having their breakfast.
I took a tray from the shelf and then placed everything that I put a sight on. The dining hall was set up in a buffet system and so everyone needed to serve themselves on their own. So, I too did the same thing. I took some garlic bread, sausages, the vegetable salad and an egg tart. While for my drink I chose soy-milk.
I sat beside Milton, who was eating a bowl of corn-flakes and all of the members of the SS just sat quietly and ate away their breakfast.
