Alice in Loveland

Love is like the rabbit from Alice In Wonderland. It suddenly appears one day, unexpected and unannounced. You are entranced by it. You can't believe it. You rub your eyes again and again to see if it's real. You desire it to be true just as one desires the idea of a talking rabbit to be true. You chase after it blindly for the hope of finding something new and interesting. You feel exasperated and tired yet the thrill of the run keeps you going. As you finally catch up to it, it stops and it looks at you. Then it jumps into a rabbithole and you follow.

The rabbithole brings you into a brand new world you've never seen before. It is full of wondrous things, things you've never experienced before, things you've never felt before. You feel confused and lost at first, but then the rabbit suddenly appears infront of you again. It guides you through the uncertainty you feel about all of it. It shows you the beautiful places and people of that world. They invite you to stay in this world for a while. You're sceptical at first, but the rabbit brings you around to it. Soon, you are convinced that theres no other place you'd be right now than this one. You feel as though life couldn't get any better. The birds are singing, the sky is clear, the leaves are green, life is good. You think to yourself, "Nothing can ever ruin this."*

But as time goes on, you get used to the wonders of the world. You still feel happy, but the shine of the whole life has worn out. More time passes and your rose-tinted glasses start coming off. You realize that this world has many problems, many black-hearted people. You start to miss your family and friends as loneliness creeps in. You start growing homesick and wanting to go back to your own world. You think it's just a phase and decide to wait for it to pass. It doesnt. Time grows and the rabbit and the people grow distant. You realize you dont wanna be in this place anymore. You confess your thoughts to the rabbit and the rabbit says that inorder to leave this world, you have to face the most foul creature of this world, the Jabberwocky*. You feel afraid but you nonetheless agree.

Suddenly the rabbit disappears in a puff of smoke and a giant dragon appears. It roars at you and breathes fire into the sky. You cannot but feel overwhelmed and hopeless against such a mighty beast. It charges at you and knocks you down to the ground. You feel as though all hope is gone, everything is lost. You ask yourself how you could possibly defeat this ghastly creature. The memories of your old world come flooding back. The joy, the sadness, the boredom, the freedom, all of it. You wish to return to that world, no matter what. You dont wanna stay in this world and face this monster anymore. You see a sword appear at the ground beside you. You take it and slowly get up. You stare at the blood red eyes of the Jabberwocky and it stares back into yours. It snarls and starts charging at you. You close your eyes, grip your sword tightly and do the same.

You feel the sword going through flesh. You realize you've done it as you feel the Jabberwocky's last breath on your face. You open your eyes and find yourself in your old world again. Everything is the same there, as though nothing had happened. You see the rabbit again and say, "It was a pleasure Mr.Rabbit, but I had to move on." The rabbit nods as if to show you that he understood. Then he says with a smile-

"Until the next time we meet," and hops away.

*The quote is from a video titled "And Nothing Can Ever Ruin This" by a youtuber called Exurb1a. It is a really similiar piece of work and I would highly recommend checking it out if you enjoyed this.

*The Jabberwocky is a metaphor for depression as the rabbit is for love, if it wasnt obvious enough.

I hope reading this was worth your time. Enjoy!
