28| AN INTERVENTION WITH HANK

[ Chapter Twenty-Eight ]

❝Oh, I'm so going to tease you about this.❞

[The Getaway]

The other Legends came out of the RV to see Sara yelling after Mona.

"John, get this thing out of me." Sara complained.

John sighed but did so and captured the bug in the jar.

"Alright. You guys get Nixon to Florida. If you leave now, there'll be time to spare." Sara instructed them.

"No way." Myra shook her head, "Not without you."

"Mona's out there alone and we don't leave our people behind, no matter how much they bug the crap out of us. I'd say no pun intended, but that would be a lie." Sara told them.

John handed the jar to Ray, "Hey mate, hold that."

"What? Where are you going?" Ray asked.

"I just need to stretch my legs, squire." John answered.

Myra glared at John, "You're not seriously leaving us with the bug thing?"

John shrugged and followed Sara.

Myra cursed, "Of course he's leaving us with the bug."

"Well, we best get Nixon to Florida." Ray said as he climbed back into the RV.

Myra and Mick followed him.

"Are you sure we can do this without Sara?" Myra asked, as she sat down in the passenger seat now that Sara wasn't there, "Or John? I mean he annoys the hell out of me but he is the one with magic."

"We have to complete the mission." Ray said as he started up the RV again and turned on the radio, "Even if we're doing it without them."

Myra groaned but didn't say anything as they hit the road.

"There's a smoky checkpoint outside Richmond." Zari's voice came over the radio, "If you want to make it to your final destination, do yourself a favor and take route 301 all the way home, bandit."

Ray looked over at Myra, "Guess we're taking a detour. Hold on."

The RV turned towards route 301 and Myra thought maybe they were finally going to head towards Florida without any more mishaps but soon they came across a blockade created by police cars that were carrying Time Bureau agents.

Myra cursed as she looked over at Ray.

"Step out of the vehicle." One of the Agents yelled as they all pointed their guns at the Legends.

"What are we going to do? We can't drive through them." Ray asked.

"Kill 'em. Kill 'em all." Mick said.

"What? No." Ray shook his head.

"No way am I going to jail." Myra argued.

"So, kill 'em." Mick said again.

"No." Ray answered.

"Yes." Mick repeated.

"No way." Myra and Ray said together.

Another siren sounded as another police car pulled up to the side of the RV.

"Oh look it's Nate. I'm sure we can all talk this out." Ray smiled.

"Nate may be on our side but I'm pretty sure his dad won't like it if he reveals that little fact." Myra exclaimed.

Myra was right because as soon as the three Legends stepped out of the RV, Time Agents grabbed them and took out handcuffs.

Hank held them out for his son, "Do you wanna do the honors, son?"

"Damn right Dad." Nate grabbed the handcuffs but before putting them on Ray and Myra, he whispered, "Don't worry. I'm going to get you out of this."

"You better." Myra hissed at her best friend as he put the handcuffs on her.

"Mr. Heywood. If we could just talk about this, I'm sure we can explain and show you, how this is just one big misunderstanding." Ray said.

Mick suddenly knocked someone out, "How's that for misunderstanding, you pig?"

"By the power vested to me by the United States government, I hereby arrest the three of you on five charges of treason, two of conspiracy-" Hank starts but is interrupted by President Nixon getting out of the RV.

"Great. Just what we need." Myra cursed.

"Mr. President. Are you alright?" Hank asked.

"No!" Nixon answered, "These two men and that woman and their co-conspirators kidnapped me. They've besmirched my good name and I've done nothing to deserve it."

Glass breaking in the RV signalled the three Legends to curse as the truth bug escaped its' jar.

"Uh oh." Ray mumbled.

The bug flew straight for the President who started spitting out truths, "Well actually, there is nothing good about my name. If you were born with the name Dick Millhouse, you'd grow up to be a bastard too."

"What the hell?" Hank asked, "Mr. President what is going on?"

"I don't know but I'm supposed to be in Florida lying to the press." The President said.

"He ingested a truth bug." Ray explained.

"See these blunders are the exact reason why we should lock up the Legends." Nate interrupted.

Myra rolled her eyes as the bug flew out of the President and into Nate.

"Nathaniel, are you alright?" Hank asked.

"No. I'm not. I've been keeping secrets from you." Nate said and then quickly shut his mouth again.

"You think I don't know that?" Hank asked.

"But it's more than your secret Pentagon side project. It's always been like this Dad. The lying and the hiding of the feelings. Now, that I'm getting to be honest, I just want to tell you that I love you, but you just make it so damn hard." Nate said.

Myra's eyes widened and she whispered to Ray, "Do you think he's told his dad he loves him lately?"

Ray shook his head.

Myra tried to ignore the rest of the conversation to respect her best friend's privacy but it was sort of awkward.

"Okay. You let the Legends walk." Nate suddenly said.

Hank shook his head.

"That or you lock me up too. Because if you don't trust them, then you and I are not on the same side." Nate finished.

"Stand down. The Legends are free to go." Hank told the Time Agents who lowered their guns.

Myra held out her hands to an Agent to unclick them. She rubbed her hands, "I guess now we wait for Sara."

A little while passed until Sara and John drove up in another stolen vehicle.

"Are you guys okay?" Sara asked.

Myra sighed with relief, "Yeah. Really glad to see you though Captain."

"Yes, no, I don't know." Nate answered, "First time in my adult life I told my dad I love him. Years of therapy couldn't even get me to do that. Hey speaking of, I love you so big. I love you so big" Nate told Sara and Mick and then turned to Ray and Myra, "I love you so big. And I love you so big."

Myra grinned at him, "I love you too."

"Look, I don't always agree with you, but, uh, if Nathaniel trusts you then so do I. You're free to fly if you can get that ship of yours working." Hank told Sara.

"Someone ask for a lift?" Zari's voice came over their comns as the Waverider appeared above them.

"Ship was never broken, was it?" Hank asked.

"Nope, it was Zari the whole time." Nate answered.

"Is she even your girlfriend?" Hank asked.

"Nope, but I'm open to it." Nate said and then clapped his hand over his mouth.

Myra's eyes widened and she smirked, "Oh, I'm so going to tease you about this."

"Oh come on you poor bastard. Let's delouse you and get that truth bug contained for good, yeah?" John said to Nate.

"And Nixon here has an important speech to deliver. Let's get you back to Orlando." Ray said to Nixon.

"You know the truth really does set you free. After spending a few days with all of you, I know that I can be a better leader, and even more so, a better man." Nixon said.

"History needs you crooked, Dick." Mick said.

"Unfortunately." Myra murmured.

Ray wiped Nixon's memory and gave him over to a Time Agent.

"I really think I'm gonna miss this thing." Ray said pointing at the RV.

"Honestly, same. Though I could have done without some moments." Myra said.

"Well, if I had to be stuck on a road trip at least it was with you guys. You know, maybe that's what family is, the people you don't mind being annoyed by." Sara said.

"So, you don't mind being annoyed by me?" Mona asked, "Are you saying I can stay?"

"We could always use another shoulder to lean on." Sara smiled at Mona, "Besides, you're not the first magical creature that we've taken in."

All of the Legends looked at each other, "We forgot Charlie!"

Sara sighed, "Time to go get your girlfriend, Myra."

"I really wish you'd all forgotten that." Myra grumbled.

"It's your life, Myr." Sara said, wrapping an arm around her shoulder, "Be with whoever the hell you want.."
