Chapter 2: Caught

After getting off the bus, I quickly ran to the cafeteria. The rain poured down on my head as I ran. With each step I took, the falling rain soaked into my clothes more and more. As the rain penetrated my clothes, my body began to get cold. I have to get to the cafeteria quick!

My feet immediately pick up the pace and soon my hand grasps the thin metal doorknob. With immense strength, I pull the door open and get myself inside. Immediately, a rush of cool air runs through my body. My body, already chilled by the rain, is now freezing. Goosebumps fly up my arms. My body starts to shiver. I know it's spring and it's warm but it's not so warm the air conditioning is needed. As I stand by the door shivering, a boy comes by with a towel. He wraps it around me.

"Thanks" I say, my voice quaking.

"No problem Camelia." The boy then walks away inside the cafeteria. How did he know my name? I don't even know him. Well, I guess more people know my name then I thought. Camelia is an alias. I can't go by Rain Everest because it will be easier for the Plexions to track me. Of course, to be honest, me using an alias doesn't seem to stop them from finding me. I guess it's more of a protective measure than anything.

As the shivering starts to disappear, my ears hear a low growl. A growl? I hear it again and find it's coming from my stomach. Oh great, I'm hungry. Why does this always happen? I eat when I get up but when I go to school I get hungry. I guess my stomach wakes up later than I do. Should I get some breakfast? Nah, I think I'll just hang out here. Besides, it's much quieter here anyway. I'd rather not deal with people yelling into my ear while I'm trying to enjoy my breakfast. That is one of the very many reasons why I eat breakfast at home.

As I was standing there, I tried to go unnoticed. I don't want someone to come by and bark at me for not being in the cafeteria. Even though I don't want anything. You know I don't see why they have everyone be in the cafeteria. It's a madhouse in there. They crowd everyone in there and then wonder why it's so loud and hard to get around. Oh well, I guess some people don't have common sense.

But despite my attempts at keeping a low profile, someone saw me. And that someone just so happened to be a teacher. Just my luck to have a teacher see me and bark at me first thing in the morning. Man, today's a great day ain't it? The Plexions want to invade Earth and a teacher is going to bark at me.

"Aren't you supposed to be..." I interrupt her.

"In the cafeteria? I know" I say as I start walking. But before I could a step, the teacher stops me. Will she just let me be on my way?

"No. In the office. Didn't you hear them calling you?" I shake my head. She's a new teacher. Unlike some other schools, this one is the poorest of the poor. And because of that, we don't have working intercoms. We mostly have outdated walkies-talkies. But then again that's school for you. Public school is only for the poor. Most kids are home schooled with VR headsets stuck on their heads. VR is apparently the newest and best way to teach children. To be honest, I disagree. But we aren't worried about my opinion are we?

Anyway, I grabbed my towel and headed back out into the elements. I ran with all my might to the door of the main building. However, unlike the trip to the cafeteria door, I didn't have to run as long. Soon, my hand grasps the door handle. I pull I open and rush inside. Immediately, my ears were overwhelmed with the sound of silence. Unlike the cafeteria, there wasn't kids running around screaming. It was quiet and devoid of people.

Immediately, I turn to the right. To my right are a set of double doors. I go through them and arrive at the office. The office was small with people running to and fro. I approach the front desk. There stands a small dark woman. I watch as she types something on her razor thin computer. I wanted to say something, but I didn't want to interrupt her. After all, it's kind of rude. So I just stand there. Finally, after a few minutes of constant typing, the woman looks up.

"Camelia Livingston" The woman points to another woman. The second woman immediately stands up.

"Camelia Livingston. I'm Agent Jackson." Agent Jackson extends her hand. I take it and shake it slightly. She's a UCA government agent. What in the world would the UCA government want with me?

"I'm with Homeland Security. My superiors wish for me to speak to you about something." Oh boy. It can't be about the whole invasion thing. She can't possibly know about my real identity can she? No, I made sure that Camelia Livingston was a solid alias. No way she would know I'm Rain Everest. Agent Jackson turns her head over to the woman at the front desk.

"Do you have a room I can talk privately with her?" The woman nodded and opened the front desk gate. Once we were through, she showed us to a small room with a large window. It had a desk and several chairs. Wait a minute! I know this room! This is the principal's office! I've only been in here once. And that was because the principal wanted to welcome me to this school. She's a nice woman, but to be honest she's incompetent. It would be nice if they fired her and put her in a kindergarten school. But whatever. Anyway, Agent Jackson gestured for me to sit. I sat near the window and watched the rain pour.

"So, what would the UCA government want with me?" I ask as nonchalantly as possible. UCA stands for the United Countries of America. It was formed after World War 3 crippled the world. It's a long story but to make it short, the US allied with Central America and Canada and became the UCA.

"Tell me Camelia. You live in this town. Do you notice some... strange things; things that wouldn't seem normal or possible?" Things that aren't normal huh? I could list a lot of abnormal things. Like the fact the UCA government is here for me. I wonder what she's getting at. There must be a reason as to why she is asking me these questions. Until I find out what she's asking, I'll have to answer carefully.

"You know, I have noticed something actually. Musclehead Jimmy has failed all his classes and tests. But yet he's still going to be graduating this year. Strange isn't it?" I say calmly. Agent Jackson's brown eyes start to squint. I think I'm starting to irritate her. I see now why people love to mess with other people.

"That certainly is strange. But that's not what I'm talking about" Agent Jackson says, her voice starting to become sarcastic.

"Well, besides Jimmy's miraculous graduation, I don't think I know of anything strange." I try to maintain my calmness. She's here for something. And it has to do with me. I wonder if it deals with my battles with the Plexions over the past few months. That could be why she's here. If it is, I'll have to tell her nothing. She can't know I'm Rain Everest. Otherwise the government will drag me to those Plexions. I want to go of my own free will, not because I was forced into it. This will be my choice.

"Really? Perhaps I can jog your memory a bit." Agent Jackson pulls out her small laptop. I watch as she opens it and pulls up a video. This video was from a week ago. I battled a Plexion named Diana. She was close to killing me and had me by my neck. If it wasn't for me touching her arm and then her face, I wouldn't be here. When I healed her, I sent her on her way. I haven't heard from her since.

"This video just so happened to come from a shopkeeper's security camera. You seemed to be assaulting someone. This seems very strange doesn't it?" Agent Jackson said sarcastically. Two emotions battled inside of me for dominance. On one side was fear. This can prove that I'm Rain Everest! The other was anger. Does she really think I'm assaulting someone? It was a Plexion and technically they came after me first. Immediately, I turn toward the window. I can't let her see my face. She'll think I'm guilty. When I turn toward the window, I see a strange sight. A bright object was streaking through the sky slowly. It that an airplane? It can't be, airplanes don't leave a blue trail behind them. Then what else could it be? Before I could come to a conclusion, Agent Jackson snaps me out of my contemplation.

"Because this footage contains evidence of a crime, I will have to place you into custody." I'm going to jail?! How could she possibly believe that was a human attacking me? Did she even see the rest of the footage? I stood up. When I did, I began to realize what the object was. It looked to be missile. A missile? A missile!

"Sorry, but I'm not going to jail. Now get down!" I yelled just as the missile exploded. The explosion instantly shattered all the windows and made my ears go deaf for a few seconds. But the explosion was the least of my worries. The missile itself released a black gas onto our school. When I smelt it, I knew instantly what it was. B-Virus... our school has just been infected with B-Virus. I stand there, in total shock and fear. What am I going to do now?
