QUESTION:

What if we're all just parts of a larger organism?

Oh we've had fun with this, the boys and I over the years. We've had several attempts at exploring the idea. Most have resulted in- well they're teenage boys... you're not gonna get bland, let's just say.

We came across a vid one day. It showed the size of things- from the smallest known to the largest supposed. It expanded, and, man sat kinda at the start - size-wise - overtaken by elephants and whales and then structures like the Eiffel Tower and such. Then it moved us past the Earth and into space- showing the size of our nearest neighbours and then the big monster stars and suns... at the edges of our known universe. (Pardon any technical issues.)

Seen this way, we are just what the above suggests.

But the boys and I took a different path: What if we were- say... individual cells of a larger organism? What if I was a stomach bacteria cell and my boys brain cells... What if some of us were bad flora and some good... and some of us were 'killer' genes and some of us cancerous ones?

What if our entire planet was but an atom-sized thing... within something else? What if the entire known universe was just the insides of a humongous being? And on and on.

Then we of course transported all of our dramas and petty squabbles into our stomachs! We pictured all of humanity in our gut- with all the associated 'messes'. Trouble between rival gangs (bacteria) leading to indigestion... and a times flatulence due to the overabundance of 'hot air'? You get the idea. (That's about the cleanest I can present any of our statements.)

It certainly brought about new perspective though, in all of us. Every 'drama' suddenly scaled down in importance- since we now held images of it as a 'burp' in our gut. And certainly, life, with its whole 'search for existential meaning' thingy... it kinda was laughable?

"What are you wandering about looking for, you dithering idiot? You're a scavenger cell. That's who you are. Stop searching for your identity and go do your job. Scavenge!"

Yeah.

How would you view it? The organism.
