Pub Chatter 7th Edition - March 28, 2021

WELCOME TO THE PUB-VERSE

A Bird, came down the Walk - (359)
By Emily Dickinson

A Bird, came down the Walk -
He did not know I saw -
He bit an Angle Worm in halves
And ate the fellow, raw,

And then, he drank a Dew
From a convenient Grass -
And then hopped sidewise to the Wall
To let a Beetle pass -

He glanced with rapid eyes,
That hurried all abroad -
They looked like frightened Beads, I thought,
He stirred his Velvet Head. -

Like one in danger, Cautious,
I offered him a Crumb,
And he unrolled his feathers,
And rowed him softer Home -

Than Oars divide the Ocean,
Too silver for a seam,
Or Butterflies, off Banks of Noon,
Leap, plashless as they swim.

Denver and Missy returned and went to the forge to see Petra. When Petra noticed them, she gave Missy and Denver a hug. She left the forge to Jasper while she went to go have a chat with Missy and Denver.

POETIC HISTORY:

A Poetic History of St. Patrick's Day

The final St. Patrick's Day icon that we all love is the leprechaun, which is a bringer of luck as well.  Leprechauns are fairy or sprite like creatures that are said to live all over Ireland.  The history of the leprechaun goes back to the 8th century and originally, they wore red coats instead of the green that we see them in today.  The stories have it, that they are shoemakers and if you are lucky, you will hear their little hammers tap, tap, tapping as you walk through the woods.  Tradition holds that there are only male leprechauns and if you do, by chance actually capture one, you may be able to talk him into giving you his treasure, the pot of gold he keeps at the end of the rainbow or receive three wishes.  Be careful though, they are known as tricksters and will not be easily captured nor bargained with.  There are many beautiful poems about this fairytale creature here are just a few snippets:

"The Lepracaun; Or, Fairy Shoemaker"
By William Allingham

I caught him at work one day, myself,
In the castle ditch where fox-glove grows, -
A wrinkled, wizen'd and bearded Elf,
Spectacles stuck on his pointed nose,
Silver buckles to his hose,
Leather apron - shoe in his lap -
'Rip-rap, tip-tap,
Tick-tack-too!

The Faries
By William Allingham

Up the airy mountain,
Down the rushy glen,
We daren't go a-hunting
For fear of little men;
Wee folk, good folk,
Trooping all together;
Green jacket, red cap,
And white owl's feather!

Down along the rocky shore
Some make their home,
They live on crispy pancakes
Of yellow tide-foam;
Some in the reeds
Of the black mountain lake,
With frogs for their watch-dogs,
All night awake.

St. Patrick's Day has become a beloved holiday for many countries around the world.  Though it has its roots in Ireland and the Christian faith, it has become a day that we can all enjoy and revel in, while remembering a man who worked diligently to change the lives of the people Ireland, for the better. I would like to leave you with one final, iconic, Irish saying that I wish for all of you:

May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sunshine warm upon your face.
And rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.

There you have it, Pubbers, another week gone by and another Chatter in the books. I hope everyone as a fantastic week!! I wish you all many blessings, love and joy!! And I will see you right back here next week!!

Remember to... keep those pens and keyboards flying!!

Cheers from you Mystres of Chatter
