Music
By Bessie Rayner Parkes

Sweet melody amidst the moving spheres
Breaks forth, a solemn and entrancing sound,
A harmony whereof the earth's green hills
Give but the faintest echo; yet is there
A music everywhere, and concert sweet!
All birds which sing amidst the forest deep
Till the flowers listen with unfolded bells;
All winds that murmur over summer grass,
Or curl the waves upon the pebbly shore;
Chiefly all earnest human voices rais'd
In charity and for the cause of truth,
Mingle together in one sacred chord,
And float, a grateful incense, up to God.

APRIL 2021 CONTEST:

Our April Contest is now open for submissions.  April's contest is a bit different from our usual contests.  We have a single prompt for the month, and you are allowed to enter as many poems as you like.  You can find out all the details in our April 2021 Contest Book.

POEM A WEEK CHALLENGE:

The purpose of this challenge is to simply encourage writing, taking the time, at least once a week, to get a poem from your brain on to paper.  If you would like to participate, the "how to" is below.

We now have our 2021 participant's sticker!! It is hosted on Imgur.  If you are a Poem-a-Week participant I can send you a DM with the link or if you would prefer to have it sent to you directly by email send me a DM and I will get it to you.

HERE IS HOW IT WILL WORK:

1. Anyone that would like to join in needs to use and existing book or create a new book on their profile to post their poems in.

2. Send us a PM with a link to the book you will be using and let us know that you have joined the challenge.

3. We will post the cover of your book in the Chatter as well as here to let others know that you are participating.

4. Send us copies of your poems at least once a month, to post here in this collection.

5. Check the Pub Chatter 7th Edition each week for prompts for the challenge.  The prompts given in the Chatter are only suggestions, you can always write any kind of poem that you like for this challenge.

Busted Gulch Vol. 15 Update:

Mary Sue tried to tend to Jacob, him being hurt and drunk.  She tried to get him to understand what he is doing to himself is not only self-destructive but hurting Josie too.  Jhonny made it to BG and when he got to the hotel, he found Denver and Missy having dinner with Petra, it was an enthusiastic family reunion.  In Carson City, a shootout took place, between Brody, Myna and Crazy Moose, the bad guys didn't stand much of a chance.

The Words of Recovery

The use of poem therapy continued to grow through the years and in 1969, noted psychiatrist Dr. Jack L. Leedy along with others created the Association for Poetry Therapy (APT).  As this form of therapy continued to grow and make strides in the psychiatric world, formal guidelines were created for training and certification, hence the APT evolved into the National Association for Poetry Therapy in 1980. (1)

Poetry therapy is used worldwide today, for all age groups as well as almost any level and type of physiological or emotional condition, including those endeavoring to recover from alcoholism.  There are many extremely beneficial facets to poetry therapy including but not limited to:

Patients and families are able to express themselves and their emotions in a safe nonjudgmental way.

They can use it as a vehicle for self-exploration and reflection when they are having a difficult time expressing such feelings.

They can explore new ways to perceive reality.

In a group setting it can give individuals a sense of validation and at the same time promote the cohesiveness of the group experience.

It gives therapists a greater understanding and deeper insight into those who are fighting for recovery.(2)

"I believe that a poem is an emotional-intellectual-physical construct that is meant to touch the heart of the reader, that it is meant to be re reexperienced by the reader. I believe that a poem is a window that hangs between two or more human beings who otherwise live in darkened rooms. I also believe that a poem is a noise and that noise is shaped."
