Chapter 11: Oliphant

Legolas POV

We have finally made it to Minas Tirith. I hear the battle going on, and amongst all the noise, I hear an orc say,

"Late, as usual, pirate scum. There's knifework here needs doing. Come on you sea rats, get off your ships."

Aragorn, Gimli and I jump off the ship. The Orcs looks surprised, good just what we wanted. We begin to approach the Orcs.

"There's plenty for the both of us, may the best Dwarf win!" Gimli tells me.

As we move towards the Orcs the Dead Army show themselves behind us and charge at the Orcs who move back in astonishment. The Dead Army overrun the Orcs and start to kill them all.

"Fifteen, sixteen." I count as I shoot Orcs with my arrows.

I continue until Aragorn shouts, "Legolas!"

He points out an Oliphant coming straight towards us. I run towards it and jump onto its tusk, swinging onto its front leg and then onto its back leg. I then climb up arrows that are sticking out of it and climb to the top of it.

I shoot arrows at the men when I see them at the top. "Thirty-three, thirty-four."

Some of the men run towards me, I fight them off and drop them down off the Oliphant. I then grab a rope, that is hanging off of what the men are sitting on, and swing down to the side.

I slash twice at the ropes and the whole construction falls sideways making the men fall off. Holding onto the rope, I make it to the top and then let go.

Taking out three arrows, I fire them at its head. As it is dropping to the ground, it roars and I slide down its trunk and land on the ground, right in front of Gimli.

"That still only counts as one!" He shouts, surprised.

I continue to fight the Orcs until there is no more around me and watch as the Dead Army go into the city to kill the last of the Orcs. Now that I am done fighting, my thoughts drift to Aerlinniel. Where is she?

Now standing with Gimli and Aragorn, the Dead Army approaches us. I hear footsteps behind us and look to see Gandalf and Pippin. Why is Aerliniel not with them? I take a deep breath. She is fine...she has to be fine.

The king of the dead interrupts my thoughts and commands, "Release us!"

"Bad idea! Very handy in a tight spot these lads, despite the fact they're dead." Gimli suggests.

"You gave us your word!" The King of the Dead reminds Aragon.

"I hold your oath fulfilled." Aragorn tells him, "Go. Be at peace."

The King of the Dead smiles and wind comes from out of nowhere. The Army of the Dead slowly disappear. Aragorn looks around, he sees Gandalf who bows to him. Aragorn smiles.

"Where is Aerlinniel?" I ask Gandalf and Pippin. I need to know if she is alright.

Gandalf replies, "I am not sure, I have not seen her in a while. What about you Pippin?"

I look over at Pippin, he has a sad look on his face and lowers his head before saying, "I am sorry, but she did not make it."

No, this cannot be true. I am about to ask him how he knows this when I hear, "Oh, Pippin. Did you really give up on me that easily?"

Turning to my left, there she is standing with the elleth from the secret council. She doesn't look too good though, her face is very pale and she has bandages on her left leg and on her head.

"Aerlinniel, You are alive! But they said that there were no survivors." Pippin tells her.

"Well, I did almost die. I was knocked out, but Caunedhiel helped me." She explains.

Aerlinniel POV

Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Eomer, and I are talking in the Great Hall of Minas Tirith. I wonder what this place looks like.

Gandalf then speaks, "Frodo has passed beyond my sight. The darkness is deepening."

"If Sauron had the Ring we would know it." Aragorn mentions.

"It's only a matter of time. He has suffered a defeat, yes, but behind the walls of Mordor our enemy is regrouping." Gandalf tells him.

Gimli interrupts, "Let him stay there! Let him rot! Why should we care?"

"Because ten thousand Orcs now stand between Frodo and Mount Doom." Gandalf informs Gimli and then says to himself, "I've sent him to his death."

Argorn quickly replies, "No. There is still hope for Frodo. He needs time and safe passage across the plains of Gorgoroth. We can give him that."

"How?" Gimli questions. I'm wondering the sane thing.

"Draw out Sauron's armies. Empty his lands. Then we gather our full strength and march on the Black Gate." Aragorn answers and I hear Gimli start to choke.

Eomer, who has been quiet this whole time, mentions, "We cannot achieve victory through strength of arms."

"Not for ourselves. But we can give Frodo his chance if we keep Sauron's eye fixed upon us. Keep him blind to all else that moves."

"A diversion." Legolas states.

"Certainty of death, small chance of success, what are we waiting for?" Gimli asks and I smile and shake my head.

Gandalf then warns, "Sauron will suspect a trap. He will not take the bait."

"Oh, I think he will."
