Forced Marriage

Requested by @jenijeno

I sighed as I drew the curtains of my window, today was the day where most girls would be happy marrying the love of their life, but for me it was nothing but an alliance between two kingdoms.

"Princess, Your Majesty said to get you ready for your wedding today," said the maid, whose name I think was Lila, while standing at the entrance of the door of my royal suite.

I sighed again, and let the maid take me to the bathroom to bathe me.

As I sat in my huge tub, I was surrounded by my maids who were washing me, cleaning me while the rest of them were going downstairs to get my wedding dress from the royal seamstress.

To say I was nervous would be an understatement, I was anxious, after all I was going to marry the royal prince of the neighboring kingdom, whom I have never met before. Our marriage was nothing but a compromise, a truce between two kingdoms fighting war for centuries, capturing citizens of the enemy kingdom, torturing them them to death. The only way to end the bloodshed and the wars was to marry the prince and princess of the kingdoms to declare a peaceful bonding between the kingdoms, but we all knew that deep down the people hated and loathed the opposite kingdom.

All I knew was the prince's name. Damain. Sounded so sweet and innocent, but rumors were that he was a monster, a demon, ever since his little sister-Princess Stephanie- died.

I was brought in to reality when I was shaken gently by one of my maids, as if gesturing to come out of the bath tub. I silently got up and wrapped a towel around me.

My maids did my make up and helped me put on my dress, which was very heavy.

After I was ready, I looked myself in the mirror. I was shocked how I looked. I looked am beautiful. All my life I was bullied about how ugly I looked. When I went to school, no one would sit with me let alone talk to me. Even though they knew that I was the Princess of the country and just with a snap of a finger, I could kill them, they didn't stop. I cried every night myself to sleep. I told my Mother and Father about it, Father was furious, he wanted to kill them and their families and the worst part was that they were the children of the Nobles and the people of the court.

My Father wanted to banish them from the kingdom, but I refrained him from doing so. Just because of my problems, I could not let him take a decision that he will regret for life. I cried myself to sleep, even tried to cut myself, but could not bring myself from doing so. Mainly because I was weak.

Ring, Ring, Ring.

The Big Clock chimed, indicating everyone in the town that it was time for the wedding to take place.

Knock, Knock, Knock.

"Come in," I replied.

"Hello my sweetheart," Father said while coming towards me, "You look beautiful, just like your mother."

I blushed at his comment. Mother was beautiful, never even in my dreams I would've thought that I look like her.

"Really?"

"Of course, my child."

He offered me his hand and I happily took it. We went in the court yard were the, no, my wedding is supposed to take place.

Saying I was scared would be going too soft, I was terrified. After all, I was going to marry the supposed Demon.

I gracefully walked down the aisle, with my hand in father's elbow. When we reached across the room, he let go of my hand and placed it in Prince Damain's hands. His hands felt so big on mine, they were soft, unlike what I imagined. I thought his hand would be rough, symbolizing  the many battles he has won.

Father discreetly whispered in Damain's ear ,"Take care of her."

The priest came up and told us to say our  vows. We quickly said our vows, proclaiming our love for each other, but we both knew that it was all a lie.

We exchanged our rings.

The priest announced, "By the power rested in me, I know pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss the bride."
