Chapter 5 (Part 2)
Oliver, Josephine, and Gregory glance at each other with scepticism sparkling in their eyes. Their faces reflect confusion as they raise their eyebrows and tighten their lips to the back of their cheeks. Disbelief overwhelms their thoughts, swallowing their minds and senses. Their prolonged gazes penetrate their glistening orbs, and they cannot help but deny Kevin and Gabriel's words.
In that brief moment of reflection, Oliver's gaze fixates on Josephine and Gregory's sceptical eyes. He cannot shake off the intense scepticism biting his core as he ponders whether to believe Kevin and Gabriel. With no other options left up his sleeves, he can only glance at Josephine and Gregory, seeking their insights and thoughts.
Gregory stares back at Oliver, their gazes interlocking. As Gregory's eyes dwell on Oliver's soft, innocent gaze, he cannot help but wonder about the reliability of Kevin and Gabriel's words. Gregory's lips pull back to his cheek, creating a subtle dimple on his face. Raising a brow, Gregory quietly shakes his head, conveying his disapproval.
While her doubt grows, Josephine peers deeply into Oliver and Gregory's eyes. A sense of trepidation shocks her spine, causing her hair to stand and her skin to shiver. An unsettling sensation licks her back, forcing her to reject Kevin and Gabriel's words. Her instincts as a mother kick in, urging her to act immediately.
"Something's wrong..." Josephine sighed. "Something's very wrong..."
Releasing a heavy sigh, Josephine grasped Oliver and Gregory by their wrists and dragged them along. Alongside Oliver and Gregory, Josephine entered the dining room and strode towards the empty table. Releasing her grip, Josephine pulled a chair and settled upon it, her elbows resting on the table's glossy surface.
Meanwhile, Kevin and Gabriel exchanged fearful glances. Quickly, they trailed behind Oliver, Josephine, and Gregory, tracing their path. Then, they stood behind them, their teeth clenching with concern. With their anxiety getting the best of them, Kevin and Gabriel joined their fists and squeezed them tightly.
"What is it, Josephine?" Oliver pondered aloud, his eyes fixed intently on Josephine's worried face.
"I don't believe a word they say. You know...? As a mother, I feel it... our son is doing something risky... something out of our hands," Josephine stated, glancing at Oliver and Gregory.
"What do you have in mind?" Gregory asked, resting his hand against the back of the chair.
"I shall utilize my visionary powers and track where Jean is," Josephine replied.
Kevin and Gabriel stepped forward, though they knew it was the time to yield and accept the inevitable. They glanced at each other in the eyes, their shimmering orbs sparkling like the stars in the night. Taking a deep breath, they prepared themselves, their chests expanding.
Josephine gathered a deep breath through her nose, her eyes closing. As she channelled her energy and powers, a cold breeze summoned within the room, eerily singing and tousling everyone's hair. Meanwhile, Oliver and Gregory observed as their hearts prayed for a favourable outcome. In the meantime, Kevin and Gabriel watched silently from the back, their faces contorting with worry.
Like a passing meteor, a vivid image of a vision flashed before Josephine's eyes. Although her eyes were closed, she felt like it was open and witnessing every nuance of life through a different lens. Slowly, a moving image of Jean appeared, realistic and surreal. Josephine's eyebrows furrowed deeper as she focused on her energy to summon every ounce of stamina within.
Finally, Josephine could see Jean through her closed eyes with her visionary abilities. She could see Jean striding across a towering aisle of dense trees in her visions. Fog surrounded Jean as he walked onward, his steps unsteady as he navigated the uneven path. With her vision, Josephine peered at Jean and observed him as he marched through the forest.
A crashing halt struck Josephine as a profound realization dawned upon her. She learned that Jean had snuck out of the mansion and was on his way to the witch's lair, alone in the vast outdoors where treacherous possibilities lay ahead. Quickly snapping from her vision, Josephine's eyes flew open as she gasped, her breath escaping through her mouth and nose. Her eyes mirrored her fear as she gazed at Oliver and Gregory.
"...Jean has snuck out of the mansion and is on his way to the witch's lair..." Josephine revealed, her voice wavering with dread.
Oliver and Gregory's eyes pop open, threatening to jump out of their sockets. They exchange prolonged gazes as their eyes sparkle with worry and apprehension. Knowing Jean's life is at stake again, they cannot help but feel their hearts kicking through their chests. It feels like their ribs are on the verge of collapsing, and their knees teeter, almost on the brink of falling over. A silent sigh passes through their lips, escaping their lungs like a gushing waterfall.
"We're sorry..." Kevin whispered in the background, his voice timid. "But he had a vision that the witch would harm Mr Oliver if he came after the witch instead..."
"But we also worry about Jean's state..." Gabriel stated, leaving a thought-provoking ponder after a sigh. "...What should we do...?"
