Prologue

CASTIEL MICHAEL ALVES HAD BEEN WALKING DOWN THE STREET, A YELLOW PLASTIC BAG IN HIS HAND. Inside the bag, had been three bag of chips, a Fanta, and a box of cosmic brownies.   He had been sent out to get the items, when his father's noticed that they hadn't had the items.  For their movie night. He had brought popcorn too. And a few other things, like; popcorn seasoning, m&m's, snow caps, and small Oreos. He brought some licorice too.

Castiel had been adopted by the other two men, at the age of eight, now, sixteen, he had spent eight years as an Alves family member. As Elijah and Joshua's son.

In the beginning, at the age of eight, he had been unsure of his placement. He has been worried about what his birth-parents would think. He had thought that they would come back for him. Because it wasn't as if they died. No, he had been taken away from their house.

Sure he had a few bruises, a broken wrist that never healed properly, but they were still his parents. And they loved him. Or, so he had thought. It hasn't been until about a year into fostering, living with the Alves men, that he realized, his biological parents never actually cared about him. Never loved him. They hadn't even tried to fight the court, fight the Alves men for him.

Castiel hated that in his first year, he had been awful to the men.

Despite them saying that they understood it.

Castiel tried to make it up to them through the years. Even with them saying that he was fine. That it was just how he was dealing with everything he gone through.

"Shit!" Castiel cursed, bumping into a taller form. He immediately knelled to the ground, gathering his things. "I am so sorry! I wasn't paying attention-"

"Pretty boy," at the voice, at the name, Castiel's head shot up to see JJ Maybank.

"What?" Castiel asked, voice laced with confusion. He assumed that he had misheard the blond-haired boy.

JJ shook his head, picking up the bag of chips. "Castiel," he says, as if that was what he had said to even with.

"JJ," Castiel, more of a sarcastic, mocking way. Since it was clear JJ was trying to delay it. Trying to come up with an excuse. But, Castiel had decided that he would just let it go. Since JJ likely met it in a mocking way, and now didn't want to start anything.

"Just surprised to see you here," JJ says, because Castiel wasn't on 'his side of the island'. He hadn't gone shopping on the Kook side. And went to the Pogue side. Sometimes he thinks that people forget he originally had been a pouge, or, they don't care to remember. That, the Pogues still only viewed him as a Kook.

"Why is that?"  Castiel frowned at the broken bag, gathering up his items. JJ still had a few of the items. Like, the popcorn seasoning and two of the candies.  Castiel shifted the items in his grip, moving to take the items out of JJ's grip.

JJ has pulled it back, a teasing smile on his face. "I can help you carry them."

"Oh, um, thanks..." Castiel says awkwardly. He hasn't expected that. Truthfully, he thought that JJ hated every single Kook. So, why would he offer to carry Castiel's groceries inside of immediately tossing them?

Castiel shook his head. Maybe he was hanging out with Isiah too much, if that was his immediate thought.  "It's kinda a long walk."

"Oh, you didn't just take one of your father's cars?"

And, the tone that JJ spoke, it bothered Castiel.  So, he ignored it. He has been trying to do that, instead of lashing out.   Both his dad's had spoke to him about how if anyone said anything about them, he corner fight them. (He had higher into two fights on thier behalf.)

"Castiel?"

Castiel wasn't sure if JJ was speaking. He most lowly was, Castiel can't recall a time that JJ wasn't speaking.  He turns to JJ, forcing down his annoyance. "Yeah?"

"You're never at any of the parties. What? Think you're that much better than everyone else?"

Castiel tried ignore JJ, after all, he could practically taste the alcohol, with how close JJ was walking to him. Castiel let out an annoyed huff.  "No." He begins to deny.

JJ picked up his pace, walking in front of Castiel as he turned to face him, walking backwards. A teasing smile in his face, or maybe he was mocking Castiel, he never knew. He swore one moment JJ was flirting with a Kook, and then insulting them about how they think they are better than him.

Castiel doesn't think that. What he for sure thinks, is that JJ has no reign of his anger issues.

"Oh, sure you do!"

Why did I agree to this? Should have just struggled with the groceries back home. "I already told you, that is not the case."

"Hey!" Another voice called out.

Castiel threw his head back, annoyed. He just wanted to get home and watch the movie with his dads.

"Castiel, is he bothering you?" The deputy asked.

"Oh, no officer, we were just talking, a friendly chat," JJ smiled.

"I wasn't talking to you." The deputy glared at JJ. Then turned to the brunette haired boy. "Castiel, is he bothering you?"

"Oh, no, no," Castiel hides the anger and annoyance he felt. "We were just talking."

"Really? I find that hard to believe. Especially, when i heard shouting."

JJ had shouted. But, JJ's almost always shouting.

Castiel shrugged. "Yeah. We were practicing for a debate."

Out of the corner of his eye, Castiel sees JJ move a hand to cover his mouth, laughing.

"Really? A debate?"

"Yes. The debate team," Castiel begins to speak slowly.  "Where you debate on certain topic with another team?"

The deputy seemed to grow annoyed, his glare now on Castiel.

"Oh, hang on," Castiel speaks, as his phone rings. "Hey, dad." He speaks, smiling. "Yeah. I'm coming home right now. You don't need to be worried.

Castile paused. "No, no, don't call anyone. Seriously, I'm like, five minutes away from home. Okay. See you there."

"Can you believe him?" He asked once he put his phone back into his pocket. "Gone for five more minutes than I said. And threatened to call the police."

"Uh, right." The deputy coughed, scratching the back of his head. "Just, her home kids. It's getting dark." He walked back to his patrol car. And drove off.

Castiel frowned. "That's for the help with the groceries JJ, but you should get going before another cop stops you."

"Guess it's good your dad called when he did."

"Yeah. Good. Great timing, amazing timing," Castiel grinned.

"Yeah?" JJ asked in confusion, wondering why the other was speaking that way.

"My dad didn't really call me. When he was glaring at you, I set up a ringtone to make it sound like he did."

JJ laughed, as he resumed his walking, still walking towards where Castiel lived. Once getting to the porch, Castiel grabbed one of the grocery bags he had want to put in the car.

"Here," Castiel shoved a bag of m&m's into JJ's hands. "A thanks for helping with the groceries."

"Who knew that Pretty Boy- Castiel," JJ says quickly, as if it would cover up the name.

"What did you just call me?" Castiel asked, shoving the groceries into the bag. "Are you mocking me?"

"You know, I was just joking around, but knowing it bothers you...I'll see you around; Pretty boy." JJ then left.

"Who the hell is he calling pretty boy?" Castile huffed before entering his house.
