Chapter 1 - The Start
A/N: This chapter will be based on the time Nabi had gone missing and President Yang was searching for her
President Yang entered the company after attending a meeting with old friends of his that held high positions in the Business world. He walked in, watching as employees and artists bowed to him as he passed. He had been asking around the business world about his niece, Park Nabi who had disappeared, leaving only just a simple voice mail for him not to worry about her. He knew her father had something to do with this but so far none of his business colleagues knew anything of it. Which was why he couldn't find someone for Daesung. He wanted her to be just as special as Bae Jang Mi and Park Nabi. But since her disappearance, paying attention to finding someone for Daesung had to be delayed.
As President Yang did his usual routine, checking in on the trainees, which needed a new vocal coach, and making sure they were making progress in their training process, he also checked in on the artists and reminded them on the deadlines for their title songs. He needed to make sure everything was in tact.
When he approached his office, he noticed a man pacing in front of his office door. Secretary Yoo looked over to President Yang, waiting for him to make the next move. Which he eventually did.
"Director Kang," President Yang says. "You look like you have something important to discuss with me so let's head into my office first." He says.
Secretary Yoo held the door open for both men to make their entry into President Yang's office. Secretary Yoo waited by the door as he watched President Yang walk behind his desk and take a seat in his leather office chair. President Yang made a hand motion to signal Director Kang into having a seat in one of the chairs that faced his desk.
"Secretary Yoo, please be sure not to let anyone in." President Yang says. "Especially the one that doesn't know how to knock."
Secretary Yoo nodded and bowed as he made his exit. "Yes sir."
President Yang averted his attention back to Director Kang. "What can I do for you Director Kang? You came here alone?"
"Yes. I'm making sure my secretary is running things until I finish speaking with you." Director Kang says.
"Well what is it? It seems important." President Yang asks.
"It's been two weeks since our last clothing line has been released. The sales in clothing has went down twenty percent from what we had last year. Most purchases were made overseas when we were aimimg for Korean marketing." Director Kang says.
"Well, I've known of the dropping in percentage but I was sure you were able to handle it." President Yang nodded. "Twenty percent doesn't sound too pleasing."
"I know. Despite having a lot purchases from overseas and high revenue from that, we're getting badly bashed in the fashion world." Director Kang says.
"What? Why are you guys being bashed? All of a sudden?" President Yang asks.
"Because the sales are only good with the clothes. The opinions of the oversea marketing go unheard or are not needed when it comes to South Korean critics." He sighed. "After the YGK Fashion show that we did to help promote our fashion line, fashion critics began to criticize every little detail. Because YG Entertainment is a high end company, they expected more from our models."
"What exactly were they saying about our models?" President Yang asks. "Last I heard, we're getting highly ranked for beauty."
"That was over a year ago now. They're saying our models are plain and boring. The same as every other models in other companies. They're saying our fashion line is done because we can't seem to mix anything up. What's bad about that is that people, our targeted sales, listen to these critics. They take in their opinions quite seriously. We need to do something so I came to ask you for some advice on what exactly it is that I need to do."
President Yang sighed and leaned back in his chair. "Director Kang, when I assigned you the position to be Director of the modeling side of the company, I expected you to be able to handle a problem like this."
"I have been handling it. I've handled it for this long and it doesn't seem like it's getting any better." Director Kang explains. "I just need a second opinion."
"Alright. In my opinion, you need a new model." President Yang suggests. "One who isn't Korean."
"Someone who isn't Korean? Modeling for a Korean company, selling Korean clothes? Doesn't make sense to me." Director Kang complained.
"Someone who isn't Korean. It will definitely catch the attention of those overseas and once that happens, Korea is going to want a piece of it. Instantly increasing revenue for the design and stopping all complaints from buyers in Korea. Especially the negative comments towards our models." President Yang explained.
"Someone who isn't Korean? We have people who aren't Korean signed under us." Director Kang sighs.
"Well that wouldn't matter because they're all from Asia. You need to find someone who is Korean and not Korean at the same time. One who is Korean but doesn't quite look like it either." He smiles. "Whatever you do, it has to be different from what other company models do."
"That's a very specific description. Someone who's not Korean and is Korean at the same time? Like someone who is half?" Director Kang asked and then snapped his finger as an idea struck his brain. "Got it! That sounds perfect. Like that kid from show me the money and who's in that new boy group. He's half American, half Korean."
President Yang shook his head. "Go after a girl. One who looks completely different from Korea's beauty standards."
"That's really risky. If it's below Korea's beauty standards then how is revenue going to go up in South Korea? I don't understand." Director Kang said frustratingly.
"I didn't say below Korean beauty standards. I only said different." President Yang intertwined his fingers and rested his arms on his desk. "I'll explain." He sighs. "Korea is a one tracked minded country with traditions that dates back to the beginging of the Joseon Era. These traditions, these morals and the way the people in Korea are thinking, dates back to the Joseon Era. Where status quo is everything. The rich die rich and the poor die poor. Now, there is a saying where the species that doesnt allow itself to evolve or change, will end up leading this species into extinction. The species more adaptable to change is the species that will eventually continue to prosper. Which is why humans have made it so far. Now in our society, ethnicity compared to other ethnic groups, Scientists have already predicted that Koreans will be extinct in the next hundred years or so. All because we refuse to let change help evolve us." President Yang explained. "The music world is changing a lot. What we say or do has a lot of impact on people in Korea. We take what we learn from other cultures and input it into our own. So, if you want your branch to survive, you have to evolve." President Yang smiled.
"Evolve?" Director Kang. "That sounds understandable." Director Kang got up as did President Yang. He stuck his hand out, shaking President Yang's hand. "Thank you. I'll look for someone who's exactly like that."
"I'll keep an eye out as well." He smiled as Director Kang got up and ready to leave.
