Grace's POV

"Justice!" Anna screams out as we exit the court room and start to head outside. Amelia and Flora parties with her while me, Mat and Emily trail behind them.

"Stop shouting Anna, you're giving everyone a headache." Mat groans. To this, Anna turns around swiftly and marches up to Mat. I sigh, knowing what would be coming next.

"Buzzkill!" Anna shouts, crossing her arms across her chest. Both me and Emily pray silently that Mat doesn't respond and just lets it go but, obviously, he's not going to let Anna win this battle.

"Spawn of Satan." Mat fires back and Anna just flips her hair behind her back.

"Tree hugger. Oh, wait hang on a sec, GRACE HUGGER!" Anna screams and runs away before he can make a remark back.

"I'll get you back for that Clefield!" Mat growls and chases after Anna.

"We have the same second-name dumbass; there is no point in calling me that!" I hear Anna shout before I give up on listening to them fight. It's basically the same fight every time, I've heard the same remarks too many time. I turn to Emily who stares up to the court building as we walk away from it.

"Emily, you can still go visit her," I tell her and the sides of her mouth go up slightly. I know how hard this must be for her, seeing her adoptive parents be put in prison. Even when they weren't particularly nice to her, they're still her parents.

"It's just when she said that she still loves me like her own child, I still love her too. Even though she has committed so many crimes, I still love her. She's my mum."

Emily wipes away the tears that had fallen down her cheeks. "I know, I'm being stupid. You're probably annoyed at me that I'm even thinking this." She laughs a sad laugh. Usually, in a situation like this, I would call her brother over but this is something that she probably doesn't want Mat knowing.

"We won't get annoyed at you because you still love her. You lived with her for 12 years, of course, you would still love her." I say and she continues to wipe away the stray tears. "And if you want to come visit her, one of us will be willing to come with you."

"Thank you, Grace." She says as she spots Mat and Anna coming towards us, stopping the conversation that she doesn't want anyone else hearing.

"Mat and Anna if you don't stop chasing each other around and just walk, I'm going to have to put you on leashes!" Flora shouts to the pair. Mat comes rushing beside me and grabs my sides.

"Grace, help. She's attacking me." He uses me as a shield from my best friend, who has an evil look on her face.

"See what I mean! Grace Hugger, right there!" Anna smirks. Mat pulls me closer into his chest, wrapping his arms around my waist.

"I'm a protective boyfriend, so what?" He smiles. Eventually, Flora and Amelia realise that we have stopped and comes over, Flora with an unimpressed look on her face. "I've angered her, haven't I?" He whispers to me.

"Indeed you have."

"Right, it doesn't look like you guys have much of an interest to go back to the human world at the moment," Flora says getting a chorus of no's from us. "Why don't we assess May while we're here so we don't have to come back?"

"Assess?" I ask.

"To find out if May has destructive powers or not. Penels who are under 10 have to be assessed manually because for some reason they don't come in automatically." Flora tells me.

"Isn't that what the girl was saying in the court room? Cleo was it?" Anna finally says something other than an insult to Mat.

"Yes. It's also what Grace had when she was younger but they got hers destroyed before they even got created. There's a low chance that she come out positive but they have to do it."

"Doesn't May need to be here for her to be assessed?" Amelia chimes in.

"Already planned. Grace, call May for me will ya? Tell her a portal will be created next to her. Anna, little help?" Flora says and I get out my phone, confused. I get to May's contact and start to phone her. She answers on the first ring.

"Hey, Grace. Everything ok?" Her voice comes into my ears.

"Flora has told me that I need to tell you that she will be creating a portal near you. I think you need to walk through it or something." I say to her. I watch the rest of my group focus in front of me. In a second a purple portal appears.

"What portal- Oh that portal. Tell them I'm walking through it now." She says and I tell the group.

"Could she walk a bit faster? This hurts!" Anna tenses up. Suddenly May comes into view and steps onto the path while the portal behind her disappears. Mat, Anna, Emily, Flora, and Amelia all fall on the floor.

"That. Was awesome." May smiles. "Why are you guys so out of breath?" She turns to them and they all groan back. Amelia is the first one up out of the lot and bounces towards May.

"Hi. I'm Amelia. You probably don't remember me but I was your babysitter for like, 2 hours." She says quickly. She puts her hand out for May to shake.

"Yea I think I remember you. Especially your hair." May smiles and shakes Amelia's hand. Everyone gets up afterwards, out of breath. "Oh hi, guys."

"Yeah, hi May." Anna groans as she stumbles up from the ground.

"Shall we get going? The Assess Office closes in a few hours." Flora tells us and we start to make our way to the Assess Office.

We stare up at the massive building in front of us, having to crane our necks to see the top. "Oh, I've seen this building before," Amelia says and Flora deadpans beside her.

"I work here Amelia. I've had to drag you here many times. Babysitting nightmares." Flora shivers and then walks towards the door and pulls out a security card from beneath her dress. She puts it towards a scanner and for a moment, nothing happens until it lets out a beep and the door opens.

"When you guys get in, you have to be careful no one sees you. Especially as they know the majority of you. May and Grace, try to stay clear of your parents." She says and turns around before we can reply.

"Wait they work here?" I ask.

"What did I say, Edwards? Make sure no one sees you and to do that, you need to be quiet." We walk into the building and enter a long corridor. It was empty and silent, not a single person seen.  Amelia notices my confusion.

"Everyone is working at the moment. We won't find anyone out in the corridors until Lunch." She tells the group. Flora leads us into a room but pauses when she gets into the doorway.

"How did I know what you guys would be coming here after Court?" A familiar voice says and I see Flora smirk. "Of course I would know that May still needs to be tested."

"I was hoping you would be here. Can't do it on my own, I'm not qualified."  Flora says to this person. I hear a laugh.

"Ha. You're not as qualified as a destructive. That must hurt your ego quite a lot huh?"

"You refer to yourself by that name?" Flora turns to us. "Come in guys. Don't worry. She's safe.....ish."

We walk in to find Cleo, sitting on the floor with a flower pot in front of her. She smiles up at us, looking at me for a while then turning to May. "When she says I'm 'safe' she means I won't hurt you guys......yet."

The flower pot in front of her turns into a knife. Even Anna looks a bit scared of her. Cleo grins, and then the knife turns into a small butterfly that flies off.

This is a different side I'm seeing to Cleo. I still can't believe that she is the same age as May. "Hello, May. I'm Cleo. I have no relation to you whatsoever but I like you so I am now.... Your friend!" She bounces up and hugs May. Flora and Amelia both roll their eyes.

"Righty. I need to assess May and you're currently the only person in this room who can help me set it up so if you don't mind?" Flora asks Cleo.

Cleo pulls away from the frazzled May and strolls across the room. She hits a button on the wall and suddenly a machine appears on the opposite side of the room. It looks like a brain scanner that Peter goes in all the time 

May tenses up beside me, probably thinking the same thing I just did. Anna crouches down and places a comforting hand on her shoulder. "It doesn't hurt May. Trust me; I did it when I was younger too.  Just pretend you're sleeping."

"That's what Peter does," May whispers so that only I and Anna could hear. I go rigid while Anna pauses for a moment, trying to think of what to reply with. Cleo calls May over and she leaves us, shocked.

"Okie May. Just lie down here and you'll go through this tube thing. Like Anna said, it doesn't hurt. It's just checking to see if you have dangerous powers." Cleo tells her as she gets up onto the machine and lies down.

"And if I'm dangerous?"

"Oh, it's not the end of the world! Actually....." Cleo says as she starts up the machine. Flora glares at Cleo. "What? I had to say it!" We watch the machine do its job, taking May in.

"Good luck May."

Hello my baby little fire balls!

Do you guys like Cleo? I'm thinking about making her a main character so you might be seeing her a lot more than I originally planned. Personally, I love Cleo. She's adorable!

I go back to school in one week and two days. I can't tell if I'm looking forward to the new year or absolutely dreading it. Last year was so awful for me in so many ways. The only good thing that happened was hearing that my crush actually liked me back.
