Chapter 2- Let's Scale the Bar.
Everyone had gathered in the lobby in front of Zax's office.
"Alright let's take attendance because this is really important and I want to make sure everyone hears this." Zax started. "Team Snapper?"
"Present!" The only member of Team Snapper, Maryland the Corphish said. Maryland has a red body with two large claws.
"Team Magic?"
"We are here," Zen said. Zen was a Medicham. She had grey skin and large red knees, next to her was Solomon the Solosis. Solomon was a floating white Pokémon surrounded by a green substance.
Solomon couldn't speak in anything but noises and squeaks, Zen was the only one who could understand him. Together their combined psychic power made future sight incredibly powerful. This helped the guild find many dire situations before they happened and prevent the loss of a Pokémon's life.
Zen had actually taken on the request where they first met Solomon, he was the only Pokémon she'd ever let on her team since her old teammate Chime was killed years ago.
"Team Instinct?"
"You know we're here," Alpha said, Karl, standing behind him and saying nothing. Karl was a Kabutops that strangely enough knew thunderbolt. He said he didn't know how but Zax could tell he just didn't want to talk about it. Karl had a lean body with brown skin and two sharp pickaxe arms.
"Thank you for that Alpha. Team Exploration?"
"All of us are here!" Jet replied. Their team had been the one that had grown the most. With Flutter and Melanie opting to join their team.
"Team WatchYourBack?" Zax hated saying their name but Fuego had tricked him into allowing it and he didn't want to get tricked again so he let it slide.
"Maybe we're here, maybe we're not," Fuego said. Fuego was a Charmander who was the best scammer any of them knew. He was a tiny Pokémon and had orange skin with a bright flame burning at the end of his tail. The only reason they kept him around was that his skills were very useful in a confrontation.
Gizzit was also a part of the team, but their third team member was strangely missing despite Zax seeing her moments earlier.
Zax narrowed his eyes. "Look, guys, this is serious. I know you're somewhere around here Kassidy."
Kassidy sighed the floated out from behind Alpha, who jumped about 50 billion feet into the air when he noticed her.
Kassidy was a Misdreavus. So she was very small and could hide in many different places. She had dark blue skin with wavy hair that was pink at the tips. She was essentially only a floating head which made her gene creepier.
Fuego and Kassidy had joined the guild together and were notoriously troublesome. Gizzit had joined their team because he'd been offered and before he could decline Zax explained exactly who the people he was about to turn down were.
"Now that we're all here let's get down to business. There have been some pretty strange things happening recently and I think they're all somehow connected to each other. First of all, we just found the fifth Pokémon that appeared from nowhere and claimed to be a human in the past three weeks. As we've learned these Pokémon are tied to bad events. Such as last year when a Pikachu appeared and Connor returned with a flock of Murkrow. Fortunately Zen and Solomon managed to predict their attack but I digress.
"This many Pokémon must mean something very terrible is coming. Zen have you and Solomon seen anything in the future that might hint at this?"
Zen shook her head. "Actually I haven't really wanted to tell anyone just yet but... we haven't been able to see into the future for the past week. Every time we try all we see is darkness and hear this maniacal laughing."
Zax was clearly caught off guard. "Well, then this just further proves my point. We need to ask the only Pokémon we know that have more knowledge about strange occurrences than we do: the Spearow."
A wave of groans washed through the group. "I know most of you don't like them but they're the only reason we're as advanced as we are. As always when they come try to find items that we need, but see if you can grill the Spearow for some information on what's been going on. I'll try talking to the leader but you guys know how difficult he is."
"Um excuse-excuse me Zax," Omega spoke up. "I-I'd like to s-s-say something."
Zax nodded. "The floor is yours."
"We-well me and Flutter s-saw a r-r-really weird looking Golem and the Spearow might know something a-about it so also s-see if they have any in-in-information on that." Omega stuttered his way through the sentence.
"Ah, I recall Melanie telling me about that before Zax returned. I do not know anything about this but it is very important we learn about this." Zen added.
"Well, that concludes this meeting. The day is still young so let's scale the bar!" Zax said his signature motivational line and everyone went off to return to what they were doing. Jet, Alpha, and Omega stayed behind.
Zax began pacing back and forth "Jet I asked you to do one thing. Do not let Gizzit tamper with the electric panel. But guess what I find out, he was doing just that! I don't think I'm being that unreasonable here!"
"He made a really great point and plus he was getting on my nerves!" Jet defended.
"So you just gave up? You didn't let a freaking legendary beat you but when a kid is pestering you it's too much?"
"To be fair we were all giving up towards the end." Jet murmured.
"Jet you can't keep giving everyone what they want! I appointed you as my third in command for a reason. Well, a lot of reasons. I don't trust Karl with power, Flutter's a child, Omega is a pushover, and Zen is depressed or something. So when I and Alpha are both out I rely on you."
"I'm not a pushover." Omega protested.
"Not right now Omega."
"Ok yes, sir!"
"Well, you only appointed me as second in command because nobody would ask something of me," Alpha stated.
"Ok, why are you two even here?"
Alpha shrugged. "Drama."
Omega nodded. "Pretty much."
"That's it! Jet in my office. You two go on a mission or something." Zax said, he stormed into his office and Jet hesitantly followed.
Zax sat down at his desk but then stood and began pacing. "I finally understand why Friction could never sit still..." then he turned to Jet. "Alright Jet look, I don't like having to yell at you. I just-the stress it's so much. I'm not ready for something like this. It should've been Zen who became Guildmaster, not me."
"Zax come on, we chose you for a reason. Trust me we all considered Zen but after thinking and her saying she refused to be Guildmaster we chose you." Jet told him.
"It's so much to worry about all the time. Doesn't help that one of my teams is WatchYourBack."
"They mean well. They go on more missions than any of the other new members. They just have some childlike tendencies." Jet explained.
"And what if Fuego put Gizzit up to messing with our grid so that it now is powered by syrup? He's part of a team called WatchYourBack, so I can't help but feel paranoid."
Jet nodded but remembered something. "Hang on, aren't you the reason Gizzit didn't decline their offer?"
"Well, I was just warning him!"
"Whatever. Look Zax I know it's hard but you're not doing this alone. We're all here for you. Except for Alpha, I couldn't tell you what his stance was."
Zax chuckled. "You guys don't give him enough credit. Alpha isn't the kind of guy to open up and talk feelings. He's much more of a physically expressive guy."
"Well anyways we're here for you. But do you think Alpha and Omega are actually going on a mission?" Jet asked and Zax replied with a shrug.
Alpha looked at the board. "This one." He said taking a paper from the board and showing it to Omega.
"Th-that's ridiculous! Dragon Mountain is the hardest Mystery Dungeon we have direct access to!"
"Yeah, I want a challenge for once. We both bring one teammate so there's four of us and then we're as good as set. We can do it, I'm pretty sure."
"Not funny!"
"Bring your girlfriend. Her heal pulse will be useful. I'll bring Karl."
"She's not my girlfriend and I don't have a death wish! I already did my mission today. I'm going to do my daily rounds of the shops."
Alpha sighed. "Flutter can do that-just come on. I need some adventure and besides, we've handled worse."
Omega hesitated. "Alright then. Let's go."
"Let's meet back at the Mystery Dungeon Warp in five, ok?"
Five minutes later Melanie, Omega, Alpha, and Karl had gathered at the warp.
"Well, here we go," Alpha said and he turned it on. The machine hummed to life and a green portal opened before them. "Here goes nothing." And Alpha jumped into the portal, followed by Karl.
"I'm really not sure about this..." Omega whimpered.
"Come on Omega. We can do this! I promise if things get bad I packed a bunch of escape orbs so we can leave if need be." Melanie said.
Omega looked up at her. "Alright. Let's go in together."
"One."
"T-two."
"Three!" They shouted at the same time and jumped through the portal. Little did they know they weren't the last ones to go through the portal.
Fuego grinned, coming out from his hiding spot. "Finally I can get a Dragon Fang and I'll have some leverage to get the Charizardite from the Spearow! Here I go!" Fuego jumped into the portal and it closed behind him.
